Growing up

Will I have periods for the rest of my life?

No. Around the age of 50, women go through another change of life called the Menopause. This means the hormones that help produce the egg cells in the ovaries slow down and gradually the menstrual cycle stops.

Will I smell different when I'm having my period?

There aren't any obvious signs to anyone else that you're having your period. But as the menstrual flow has a slight odour it's important to change your sanitary protection regularly during your period and wash frequently. If you are worried about smelling different, tampons might suit you better than pads because they are worn inside you.

What is natural discharge?

Natural discharge is clear or white-ish fluid that comes from your vagina. It helps prevent the vagina from drying out and protects it against infections. It is perfectly normal, and is a sign that your body is working right. Discharge occurs throughout the month and can vary in amount and consistency depending on lots of factors, including stress and hormone change during your cycle.

If you become at all concerned about the colour, odour, or thickness of your discharge then go and have a chat to your doctor who can help and advise you. Remember that doctors deal with these things everyday, so if you're concerned don't be embarrassed to ask for advice.

Usually discharge leaves only a trace in your panties, but if it does make you feel uncomfortable, try using a pantliner to keep fresh. Lil-lets intimate wipes can also help you keep fresh and clean throughout the month!
