Soothe pain
For some girls, periods mean pain. Period pains are caused by the muscles in your uterus (womb) going into spasm. Period pains can vary from person to person and some girls unfortunately suffer more than others. Fortunately there are a few things that can help.
Relax
Period pain can feel really draining, for some girls it helps to relax for a short time. Some people find that lying on their back with knees bent can help, and others find that lying on their side can ease those cramped muscles.
Warmth
Because the pain is caused by tense muscles, applying warmth to the area can really help. Try one of the following:
- Have a warm bath
- Give your lower belly a gentle massage
- Hold a warm hot water bottle to your lower belly
Gentle exercise
A bit of gentle movement can help to relax your tense muscles, try going for a walk (or offer to do the vacuuming/dusting at home - yeah right!).
