Can you go swimming on your period? Yes.

As long as you wear a tampon there is no reason why you can’t enjoy swimming.

Can you get pregnant during your period? Yes.

If you don’t use a form of contraception there’s no ‘safe time’ to have sex. And remember, condoms are the only contraceptive that will protect you against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Can you exercise or do strenuous activities during your period? Yes.

You can do anything during your period that you can do when you’re not menstruating. In fact, exercise can help relieve period pains.

Will using tampons mean I am no longer a virgin? No.

The only way to lose your virginity is by having sexual intercourse. If you feel comfortable using tampons during your period then go ahead.

Periods are unclean. False.

It’s quite the opposite in fact. Periods are a sign that the female body is functioning healthily.

You shouldn't bathe or wash your hair during a period. False.

Some women sweat more during their periods, or find their skin and hair becomes greasier, so it’s important to keep fresh and clean.

You can tell who is having their period. False.

At any one time a quarter of all women between the ages of about 10 and 50 will be having their periods, but you can’t tell just by looking.

A period lasts for exactly one week. False.

The length of time you bleed is different from one woman to the next. The average duration may be 4-5 days, but it's perfectly natural for a period to last anything between 3-8 days.

If you don't get your period you’re definitely pregnant. False.

There are many factors that can delay your period: stress, strenuous exercise, illness, drastic weight change and poor diet for example.

However, if you’ve had unprotected sex and your period is later than normal, take a pregnancy test – that way you’ll know for sure.
