Putting spots in their place
Spots can be a total pain. They can make you feel rubbish and really self-conscious about the way you look. But don’t worry, with our tips and a little bit of care, you can enjoy healthy skin and a more confident you.
The most important thing to remember is you’re not alone, even the most ‘perfect’ of celebrities get spots.
What causes spots?
Although many things can cause bad skin, the main culprits are those mischievous hormones. During puberty your hormones are likely to be all over the place, which can cause skin to produce too much oil (sebum). Normally a balanced level of oil in the skin is what keeps it fresh and soft looking, but too much can block your pores. Blocked pores cause bacteria which can then lead to spots.
How to beat spots
There's no foolproof method for getting rid of spots, but there are lots of things you can do to help. Ask your chemist to recommend a treatment, or in severe cases go and chat to your doctor. Whatever you do, don’t squeeze spots – this can lead to more, infections and even scarring.
Preventing an outbreak
A regular and thorough skincare routine is really important to prevent spots and keep your skin looking great.
Cleansing
Cleansing is an essential part of daily care. It washes away that excess oil, perspiration and general grime – all the things that can block your pores and lead to spots. Just remember to be gentle and not to overdo it.
Don't stress
Stress can be another cause of spots, so try not to worry about things. If something is getting you down then talk to someone. Also make sure you get enough sleep and do a bit of gentle exercise to keep your stress levels in check.
