Frequently asked questions

Here are the most common questions women ask us about periods. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for try looking at our wellbeing section that has lots of help and advice including understanding periods, heavy periods and animated videos that show you how to use a tampon.

1. How often should I change my tampon?

It depends how heavy your flow is and what absorbency you are using, but you should never leave a tampon in for longer than eight hours.

2. What absorbency tampon should I use?

It all depends how heavy your flow is.  You may need to change the tampon absorbency throughout your cycle, as your period is heaviest during the middle of the flow.

Take our product quiz to help find the right product that suits you best.

3. Can I have sex when I am on my period?

Yes as long as you use contraception to protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

4. Will I smell when I’m on my period?

Some women do notice as slight odour when they are on their period. Using tampons can help with this, or why not try our unique FreshLOCK™ ultra towels. Each towel features our patent-pending FreshLOCK™ ingredient, neutralising odours and keeping you fresh and clean for up to eight hours.

5. How do I use a compact applicator tampon?

Watch our animated video to learn how to insert a compact applicator tampon.

6. How long should my period last?

The length of time you bleed is different from one woman to the next. The average duration may be 4-5 days, but it's perfectly natural for a period to last anything between 3-8 days. Have a look at our monthly cycle video for more information.

7. How will the contraceptive pill affect my periods?

Some women find the pill makes their periods lighter, shorter and more predictable, but everyone is different.

8. My periods are really heavy, which products should I use?

Lil-Lets is the only sanitary brand to have a super plus extra absorbency tampon, specially designed for women with very heavy periods.

9. What can I do to relieve my period pain?

Gentle exercise and eating healthily can help relieve period pain. A nice, warm relaxing bath and a hot water bottle can help too. You may also want to speak to your local pharmacist as they may suggest painkillers or other pain relief.
