  • Hi Vicki Laura again thank you again I am trying a range of different panty liner but lil lets are the ones for me I hav been getting cramp 2 to 3 times a day for about a week or two now so me and my nana went out and got 14 day towels and 8 night towels not lil lets! • Hi Vicki!
So I got my period last month for the first time and I'm pretty sure it was my period (kind of redish browny colour) anyway this month I was sure nearly two weeks ago and nothing has happened I have just went back to discharges and that's it? So what's going on?!?!

Periods can often be irregular with large gaps between each one and this is very normal and nothing to worry about.

  • whatz my bra size? im 68 under and 85 over

  • hi Vicki
I have a boyfriend and he goes to my school, I Skype him all the time and he talks to me at school sometimes
but he isn't romantic at all in terms of saying cute things and buying presents and things like that
I know he likes me and I like him too but due to his lack of romantic skills I sometimes doubt him

how do I try to get him to be romantic without sounding needy or desperate?
    thank you

Buying presents and being romantic is nice but not all there is to caring for someone. So if you like this boy and you get along try not to worry too much about the other stuff, we all show our love for someone in different ways.

  • Hi vickie, so there is this boy in year eleven and I'm in year nine, he's only two years older than me, I don't think that's that bad at all. But literally every time I see I could pass out. He's just so beautiful and intelligent. Sometimes I can't even contain myself, I just squeal in happiness when I see his face. how do I even begin to cope with this? I have never talked to him, ever! And I don't even think I would have the courage.
    Rachael

Hi Rachael, if you like this boy then you have to be brave and smile next time you see him, if he smiles back then next time ask him how his weekend was. By making small steps to get to know him then in time you may even find that both of you like each other enoug to date.

  • Hi vicki. What would the symptoms of anxiety be. Thanks x

Anxiety is something that can only ever be diagnosed by a medical professional and if you have any concerns then please speak to your parents who will be able to help you with this concern.

  • Hi Vicki,
My periods only last 1 day. Is this normal? Also, can the length of your period change as I want to use tampons and it's impossible with periods this short.

Periods can change over time so please try not to worry you may find in a month or two the length of your period and how much blood is lost will change.

  • Hi vicki 😁 sorry if this is too personal, but crying my eyes out and need an answer 😭 My labia is very swollen and sore. I make sure I keep "down there" clean and hygeneic, but I have a little lump down there. I don't know weather clothes have rubbed me or it is an ingrowing hair or something.I asked my mom and she said this is normal, not to worry and to keep an eye on it... But I am really scared! I am 13 btw, I apologise if you feel this is innapropriate xx thankyou xx πŸ’• from Y

Don't be scared and listen to your mum, just like anywhere on the body, little lumps and spots can occur from time to time and I am sure in a couple of days this lump will have disappeared.

  • Hi vickey, i am 66cm under and 80cm over, what bra size am i?????

30B is your size based on these measurements.

  • Hello, sorry if this is inappropriate.

I recently started my period, but I'm not on it at the moment, it's near the time I had it last month, but I haven't had it yet, should I put a liner on just in case, also I'm really paranoid that I will have it at night, while I am asleep, and blood will go through to the sheets, does blood wash out?

    Thanks, Maxine 123

Hi Maxine, periods can be irregular for the first few years and wearing a pant liner is a great idea. And don't worry aboout blood on the bed sheeps if they are initially soaked in cold water and then placed in the wash the stains will come right out.

  • Hi Vicki this feels really weird but u have been in a bra for at least two years now and I feel as if my new bras are gettin two small and I want to buy more but I am really embarrassed to have a look when I walk into shops because I don't want to go to the counter and pay I don't no whether to talk to my mom about it?
    Thanks x

It would seem a great idea to have a chat to your mum letting her know your bras are now a little tight and I am sure she will take you shopping.

  • Hi. I have liked a boy in my class for over 2 years but I am far to shy to say anything but the problem is everyone used to say he liked me but now my best friend has gotten really pretty so most guys tend to like her and it is making me very self conscience and I think he likes her too but she flirts with every guy! What do I do?

    Many thanks x

If you like this boy then you have to let him know, so be brave; smile ask him how his weekend was. After all how is he supposed to know you are interested in him if you don't let him know.

  • I'm goin into secondary nxt year nd I'm worried about it we had our open day yesterday nd it's so big ny advice❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀

  • What is the size for:

    27 inches under
    30 inches over

    Thank you!

32aa is your size based on these measurements.

  • I'm 15 and I have a weird feeling that I have feelings for another guy, its the first time I've felt this way. We are rather close as we talk all the time and he's in most of the same lessons as me. But my friend always ask me if i like him and I always say no because I know that they don't like him and it makes me feel embarrassed in a way but I have a weird feeling he likes another girl who is close to me and lately it's really got me down because he hardly talks to me now and always goes to her

Firstly, it should not matter what your friends think, if you like this boy then I am sure they would support your choice. And if you do like him then take the time to smile and chat, so he knows how much you care.

  • Hello, so I am 14 and I am on my period however I wear pads, and they are new branded ones, one pack of 'always' which are terrible and one pack of Asda's, and basically I was just wondering could a type of pad cause irritation down below?⬇ because yesterday my bum was very itchy and today my vagina is red and itchy, please reply asap,, p,s I do not have weird discharge so it can not be thrush, thankyou↙↙↙↙↙↙↙↙↙↙↙↙

Yes some pads can cause irritation to some people and you may find our Lil-Lets teens or freshlock pads are a more comfortable option.

  • Part 3
H then told R that she never hangs out with us and she's being a horrible friend which isn't true she's making it up. But now R thinks that we all think that but I told her I didn't. And H fancies the guy I do but I haven't told her so I don't know what to coz somedays i think he likes me but other days i don't
    thank you so much xxx

Friendships can be tested during puberty as you will all be noticing so many different emotions at this time. It may be a good idea to hold a sleepover or organise a weekend treat and when there let all the girls know that its fine to be different and have different views but that the most important thing is to remain good friends and respect each other. By constantly being mindful of this and kind to each other you will be able to get through the rough patches when arguments start.

  • Hi vicki,
Please could you tell me what my bra size is.
My bust is 28 inches, and my under bust is 27 inches. Please answer😊
Also, is there anyway of telling that you my start your first period soon?
Please reply as soon as possible
    Lucy

Hi Lucy, 32AA is your size based on these measurements. Some of the signs that your period is not too far away are breast development, pubic and under arm hair and discharge.

  • Part 2 but then B decided she didn't like H and M and wants to drift away from them its starting to put me in the middle . Then M was really mean to me by txt since and when we have group chats she always starts arguements for no reason and we have all noticed it. So she's annoyed everyone cuz of it but not H coz she's her best friend. Then R has other friends which she hangs out with but not us very much but it didn't bother me until R said to E I don't know why I'm telling some infomation and E told H ..

  • Hi this will be really long part 1
so I have 5 or so close friends lets call them R E B H M but all of my friends keep falling out and its really annoying me its like we can't go one day without having an argument. The first argument happened a while ago but its like its ongoing,2 of my friends H and M are serious really smart and love books they always go on about books and but if you insult one off their book characters that they like or a book then they go really moody

See my response in Part Three.

  • Heu vicky i sm really annoyed becaude eemvry one in my school keeps calling me lez and I'm not what do I do

People can be unkind but I am sure they do not mean any really harm. My advice would be to ignore any silly comments and not let anyone see that their remarks bother you, in time they will get bored of teasing and find something else to focus on.

  • Hello vicki
Okay so 2 months ago I felt light tickles in my tummy and I was not sure what it was so i googled it and lots of pregnancy websites came up (I'm a Virgin by the way) and I got really worried but then a couple days later I got my period and after that it stopped. It started again recently and when I got my period it stopped for a while but started again my mum took me to the doctor and she said my tummy is way too soft. So should I be worried is this a normal thing will it stop.

These little tickles are most likely signs that you are growing into a young woman and nothing for you to be worried about.

  • People think I am weird because I have a VERY weird hobby... A reborn baby. I'm not sure if you know what one is but what should I say to people when they say it or should I just ignore them?
    LillieπŸŽ€
PS if you don't know what one is then go on google and type in reborn baby. Thanks... X

Hi Lillie, if your hobby makes you happy, then I see no reason why you should not continue with it and yes if people do not appreciate your individuality then ignoring any comments would seem sensible.

  • Vagaina pain during periods 😒

This discomfort is caused by your uterus contracting to release menstrual fluid and gentle exercise is generally all you need to ease this pain.

  • i have been bullied for at least 3 years now and its starting to affect my life more than it used to I've started to question how I look my family and teachers know about it but do nothing they said it would go away but it hasn't what should I do please help I'm really scared to go back to school on Monday
    Kiana x

Hi Kiana, please have a chat to your teacher and parents again letting them know how sad you are feeling, it may be that feel you are coping with this bullying but it is clear you are not and there is a lot of help out there, so don't feel you cannot speak to someone. You may also find my blogs on Bullying useful too.

  • Some teachers in my school think I have a crush on my English teacher! 😞 I get enough mockery from pupils, so you can probably imagine how irritated I am about this. How can I tell everyone I don't have a crush on him?
    Danielle.

Hi Danielle, the best way to deal with this situation is to ignore people when they say things, they will  soon become tired of teasing once they see you do not care about their comments and move on to something else.

  • I like this particular boy in my class but he thinks of as weird. My whole class thinks I'm weird fat and ugly I feel disgusting and no boy wants to go out with me.

I truly believe that there is someone out there for all of us and if you like this boy then smile and chat when you have a chance, you may just find that he likes you as much as you like  him. If not then at least you will have grown in confidence as you chat and there will be another boy out there who likes you just as much as you like him.

  • Hi vicki... is this normal , there is a boy in my class with no legs he's only got below his knee but every time I look at him I get a nice tingling feeling and I get the feeling that I don't want legs too.. can you help? ? (Sorry if this is inappropriate) from lottie

Hi Lottie, it seems you have a crush on this boy and believe that being like him will make you closer. But you do not have to be like him to get his attention. Say "Hi", chat when he is around and you never know he may just ask you out on a date.

  • I've just started my period and I don't bleed at night is there something wrong with me. Thanks

    Charlie xx

Hi Charlie, lots of people notice less blood is lost whilst sleeping and this is nothing to worry about.

  • Is it ok and safe to use any of the following methods to get your period faster?:

-putting lotion on your fingers and putting them in your vagina.
-putting oil on your boobs to make them grow faster.
-drinking green tea 3 times a day.
-putting a herb up your vagina for a day.
-bathing in bath salts with your legs open.

    Please answer!

There are lots of myths on how to make your period arrive sooner, but the simple truth is, that there is nothing you can do to make it arrive earlier. Your period will arrive when your body feels the time is right for you and not before, so please be patient and try not to worry.

  • HI Vicki, so I really like this boy in my year. I'm 5'0 and he's about 5'5 so I come up to his shoulder, but he is the tallest guy in our year. Most people are like, 5'2 and my friends say we should go out, but one girl said I'm too small for him. But he is really sweet to me, tries to get my attention a lot, congratulated me when I came first in a race, looks at me in class a lot and is generally a sweet guy. Should my height effect this and do you think he likes me?

Absolutely not, what a strange thing for someone to say to you, height has no bearing on who you date.

  • Hi Vicki,
My Mum thinks that the Teens range if a bit to small for me so is there and free sample packs for adults. If you do what do they include.

    Thanks πŸ˜„

We do not currently sample our adult range, but you will be pleased to learn that our ranges are widely available for you to trial in most large supermarkets and chemists and also online via our store shop.

  • Hi Vicki,
I'm peteite for my age(14) and skinny. I have had period pains for about 2 months now and there quite bad, I started Breast developing over 2 years ago now and had discharge for ages too. When do you think my period would come and how long do period pains go on before I start my period? Please help!
    Love Candie xox

Hi Candie, this pain you are noticing is most likely caused by your reproductive organs maturing  and this can continue for a few more years to come. With so many signs of puberty already noticed I doubt you will have much longer to wait before the arrival of your period.

  • Sometimes when I get a tingly feeling down below and squeeze my legs together it feels good? Why

This is a form of masturbation; and your body's way of exploring the way you feel when touched or stimulated.

  • hi vicki
when i see a romantic sence in a movie or something like that i get a weird feeling down bellow what is it and what does it mean

This is called sexual arousal and all part of your journey from being a child to an adult and nothing to worry about.

  • Hi vicki what's my bra size:
    67cm under bust
    81cm on the bust

    πŸ’•

30B is your size based on these measurements.

  • jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
So I've been asked out by guys before but i've never been out with any. I know a couple of guys who like me who i don't like who can be really mean and aren't someone i want to go out with. anyway, i don't want to upset them so if they ask me out, what is the best way to say no?

Simply let them know that you are having too much fun with friends to be bothered with dating and that you would prefer to be just friends with these boys for now.

  • Urgent plz answer soon thx vicki
I used to like this boy(d) and I told my 2 closest friends who like j and n. For a while I thought I liked n but now I'm confused cos I don't like him I think i might like j not d anymore. Should I tell them plz say soon cos Im bit sure if I like him but we're always honest with each other. Loads o people think I like j and he likes me but I'm not sure. Shall I tell my friends this or not
    <3 u
    L

Hi L, this depends on how close you are as friends and if you are sure J likes  you, I am sure they will understand and ultimately it is J's decision who he wants to date.

  • Hi vicki, I'm 14. I've missed my period twice now but there has been a reallly large increase in the amount of thin discharge I have been having. Do you know why this is?

Discharge can vary in both colour and  texture from time to time and this is nothing to worry about and periods are often irregular during your teen years and as your body works out the right menstrual cycle.

  • Hi Vicki
How are the teens tampons different from your normal range? Is is just the packet or are the tampons actually made differently or of different stuff? Cx

Our teens tampons are shorter and narrower than our core range and therefore ideal for girls new to menstruation. The great news is that they are just as absorbent as our core range.

  • Hi Vicki kendall again, sorry I've been asking alot of questions recently.
Anyways sorry if this is inappropriate but my discharge is like a creamy whitish colour? Is this normal? It's not clear or yellow and it isn't really thick but it's not really watery either? I'm getting worried and I don't want to go to the doctor, am I normal?
    Thanks , kendall.

Hi Kendall, yes this is very normal and you can find out so much more about discharge by visiting our Puberty section on the website.

  • Hi vicky, my name is Katie.
Me and my BFF are going shopping together without parents for the first time. She is 4 years older than me (she's 17). I havent started my period yet but i really want to buy some pads but my BFF is very shy and awkward. the thing is that she will not leave me and wants to walk around with me wherever i go. so im so awkward to tell her that i want to buy pads cause she is very awkward and might feel wierd around me. How do I make our shopping more relaxed and awkwardless?

It would be a good idea to let your friend know at the begining of your shopping trip that you are considering purchasing sanitary protection in preparation, that way you will both feel more comfortable and become used to the idea of this task when visiting the store to view the products available.

  • Hi VIcki
I'm 13 years old and I'm extremely self concious when I go to school i feel really unpopular because of the girls at my school are really skinny ,I really don't feel comftable wearing skirts at all I want to start wearing makeup to sort of hide my face to see if that will give a bit of confidence but my mum won't let me and because im 1 of the shortest in the class I want to start wearing heels I feel so uncomfortable with my body I often get upset thinking about it
    Please help me N

A great many teenagers struggle with self-esteem during puberty and my advice would be to practice wearing heels and make-up when at home so you start to a) feel more comfortable with your appearance and b) your mum gets used to the idea of a more grown-up you. Even changing your hairstyle can make a difference and a high pinned bun can be very flattering if you have long hair. Finally and most importantly, make subtle changes, to avoid going too far, so a little blusher and mascara is all that is required at first and a small 3" heel is more than adequate. And if you do decide to wear a skirt go for one that is just above the knee and no higher.

  • Hi i have had all the signs of a period like mood swings, boob development and tenders, spots and a bot of discharge i know the best way of telling is discharge 6-12 months but when will my come

I cannot give you an exact date as we are all so very different, but with so many signs already noticed it would be a good idea I feel to keep some pads and liners with you when out and about from now on.

  • I just laughed and tried to ignore it, but then I had to leave I asked him firmly bit politely to give it back but be wouldn't and I really had to go, so I just grabbed my phone and ran downstairs, as I was leaving he shouted that he'd got an erection I'm so embarrassed and ashamed what can I do to make me not feel like this, I just keep crying and I feel like he forced me to. I'm nearly 16 if that makes a difference? :/
PART 2 :/ sorry from Valkyrie

Regardless of your age this boy's behaviour was unacceptable and not that of a true friend. My advice is to put some distance between you both and spend time with people you can trust. And whatever you do, don't let this boy diminish how serious and inappropriate his behaviour was by making a joke of it, it was not in my opinion funny or a joke.

  • So today I went round to me friend that's a boy's house. We were doing homework and then he stole my phone and put it down his pants. He kept taunting me telling me to get it when I clearly don't want to :/
PART 1, sorry :/ from Valkyrie

See my response in Part Two.

  • I always feel really self conscious because I have an outie belly button and I hate it. I never wear bikinis or crop tops because I worry that everyone will look at me and judge me. Is there any way of making it an innie without surgery?

I know lots of people with belly buttons that are 'outie's' and it should not stop you from wearing a bikini. We are all different and you may be interested to learn that Kass Moss one of the worlds most beautiful women often shows off her 'outie' when modelling swimwear, so you are in great company.

  • Hello vicki ,
I just wanted to know if there is any other reason there would be blood in my nickers after a discharge or is it just because i'v started my period. Xxx thanks for the help

If the blood is noticed after releasing waste food and is found after wiping your anal entrance, then this could be constipation. But if you find the blood is released during the day and is towards the front of your underwear this is most likely your period.

  • Hi, vivki!
What are the signs that I might get my first period soon?
    Thanks x

Breast development, pubic hair and discharge are often noticed a year or so before the arrival of a girls period, but just as many have no signs and for this reason it is a good idea to keep some pads and liners in your school or sports bag just in case.

  • Hi Vicki, I am 5ft 5 and I weigh 9/10 stone?? Am I morbidly obese ????
I also have really broad shoulders, how can I reduce them XXXX
    Anonymouse

Rather than focussing on what the scales say, consider what you eat and how much exercise you take on a daily basis. By eating 3 healthy meals a day with fewer greasy or sugary snacks and exercising every day for an hour (even if this is just walking to and from school) your body will find its ideal weight.

  • Hey Vicki me again
So I've been having like quite a wired and noticeable smell down the (oder) and I don't know why I don't like people sitting next to me in case they can smell it
    JessXx

Hi Jess, this could be discharge mixed with urine or faeces if not wiped away thoroughly after visiting the toilet. You may find using wipes after wiping is a useful way to keep this area clean and odour free, together with pant liners.

  • Hi
So there's this boy who's in year 10 and I'm in year 9 I started noticing him when I see him in the morning when I walk to school Then a few weeks back I saw him in the supermarket and it felt like fate (this sounds stupid but I believe it) so I sent him a friend request on Facebook a couple of days later and he accpected it that day. I see him at school sometimes when his classes are near mine and once I walked next to him but I'm not sure he likes me maybe coz were in a different year
    thanks xx

Why not smile next time you see this boy and say "Hi". This should let him know you like him and if he feels the same he will respond.

  • Hi Vicki
I had 3 and then I've missed 8 periods why ?? Ive also put on a lot of weight I've never had sexual intercorse but I've become worried that I'm pregnant Is there any way I could become pregnant other than actually having sex can you please answer I have asked several times x

Periods are often irregular with large gaps of several months between each one, so please don't worry. This extra weight gain you are noticing is most likely your natural change from a girl to a woman and very normal.

  • Hey Vicki
So I've been getting like loads of sticky brown stuff in my pants and I don't have a clue what it is do you know
    JessXx

Hi Jess, sticky brown fluid is almost certainly your period as menstrual fluid is often brown and not red in colour. For more details about menstrual fluid why not read my blog entitled So What Is Menstrual Fluid.

  • Hey Vicki
So I've been having like quarter drop of blood in my pants so not my period but like tiny so you can only see if you look pretty hard and I'm wandering what it is
    Jess Xx

Hi Jess, it can still be your period even if only a small amount of fluid is lost, so be sure to place a pad or liner in your underwear for the next few days.

  • Hi Vicki I am eleven and I have really dark brown hair but I have being having discharge foe the past two years and I smell a bit but I use liners and people have being commenting about it behind my back and my hair hurts xx

Personal hygiene is very important during puberty and washing this area daily is a good idea, it is also important to wipe thoroughly after visiting the toilet as urine or faeces mixed with discharge can lead to an offensive odour.

  • Hello Vicki can I just say I LOVE LIL-lets they are the best products I have tried and I love the little bags and pocket thing the pads come in.:)

Just out of interest could you list the products that are included in the free sample packs?

    Thanks XXXX

The free sample pack contains one each of the following, one teens day pad, one teens night pad, one teens pant liner pouch, one teens regular applicator and non applicator tampons, one wipe and finally one Becoming a Teen booklet.

  • hi vicki kendall.
sorry if this is inappropriate but its been worrying me. i keep worrying that i have something wrong 'down there' even though theres no symptoms of anything wrong? why do you think i could be worrying?
and i shaved 'down there' a while ago and now its really itchy? im really worried and i dont want to go to the doctor.
please answer ASAP! its really getting me down.

    thanks, kendall xx

Hi Kendall, shaving can very often leave this area sore and irritated, but don't worry this will subside over the next few weeks and in future consider trimming this area rather than shaving.

  • Dear Viki
(Sorry if this is inappropriate) when you have periods does everyone get period pains?
    Thanks Sofia xxx

Hi Sofia, not everyone experiences menstrual cramps either before or during their period and for those that do they level of discomfort can vary, with gentle exercise often being all that is needed to help manage this pain.

  • Hey Vicki
I am 10 and none of my friends have started their periods and yesterday night when I wiped after going to the toilet a few drops of blood was on the tissue is this a sign that I have started my period???

This could be your first period as they can arrive anytime between the ages of 8-18 so please try not to worry and have a chat to your mum or the person who cares for you and share this news with them.

  • Is it normal to feel scared

It is human nature to fear something that has not yet happened, but I am sure if you read all our articles on the website and my blogs you will feel a little less anxious and prepared for when your period does arrive.

  • Hi Vicki I usually use my face wash morning and cleanse at night I have pretty clear skin except my nose which has a scar/ spot on it and I just want it to go back to the way it was because I use concealer but it wears off throughout the day how can I help this because I really need it to go away in the next week please help it is kind of just a red scar/cut now I i have dark skin so it gives out a darker scar thanks ruby x

Hi Ruby, why not consider using a facial oil in this area; something similar to Bio-oil may help the scar heal more quickly.

  • I'm 14 years old, I've started my period, got hair down there and on my armpits, but yet I have no boobs, I'm a 28AA, I'm quite skinny, but I'm not that skinny!!

Why not read my blog Your Period Is Not The End Of The Story for more information on breasts and their growth pattern.

  • Hi! I got tonz of pubic hair down there, & I'm rlly embarrassed. How can I get rid of it, I don't rlly wanna tell my mum...

You may want to consider trimming this hair back a little to keep it neat.

  • What is the reason why periods vary from color? As my period this month has gone from pink to brown to dark brown to black and now to redπŸ‘Ž why is this? I know it is normal I'm just curiousπŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―

Your period is made up of the lining of your uterus and as these layers gently come away they can vary in colour and very often become lighter towards the end of your period.

  • Hi Vicki
There is someone on Instagram that I quite like and he has requested to follow me . I am not sure what I should do because I have met him before but I don't know him very well!!!
My profile is quite simple with a few decent pics on there so it wouldn't be a bad thing to let him follow me would it?
Please help! I'd love to let him but I don't know if I should
    Thanks
    Cressida x

Hi Cressida, if you want this boy to follow you then I see no reason for accepting him, but be sensible and do not send or accept any photos of an inappropriate nature or agree to meet him in private.

  • Hiya vicky😘
Is it possible to get pregnant from masterbation or sticking something up that ? Thanks can't waiti for your reply 😁😘

No it is not possible to become pregnant from masturbation of any kind.

  • i havent had my last (and first) period since november 21st LAST YEAR!! ive had one spot of blood, heavy discharge, headaches, back/neck aches and major mood swings. i mean MAJOR. so do you think its close?

It could be close and this really is nothing to worry about as there are often large gapss between each period. Remember too that menstrual fluid can very often be light brown in colour and not red.

  • One of my best friend has a crush on an old crush of mine. We never went out and I'm not jealous. She definitely flirts with him, so I am going to be supportive just I don't know how....

My advice is to act as you would normally around your friend, if you try to force a different behaviour she may see through it, so be yourself.

  • Hello, reply for this ASAP please!
I have a friend (let's call her L) L is supposed to be my friend but I hate spending time with her! she draws on my bag and laughed when I said stop, she hurts me, physically and she hangs out with my group of friends that I want to stay friends with! Sorry that its so long but I want to stop being her friend but she's in all of my classes as well and hates 1 of the friends! I feel like I should just die. That's how much it's killing me! kikiaut

There is no need to stop spending time with your friendship group, but there is a need to be firm with this girl, so next she does something that annoys you, let her know that you are not happy with her behaviour and in some circles she would be classed as a bully. By constantly letting her know you will not stand for her little games she will realise she can no longer bully you in this way.

  • I fancy this boy, and I'm not sure if he likes me back. The problem is if we do go out it will be awkward as my friend find him really annoying :(
He may not even like me!
    Thanks
    :P

If you and this boy do decide to date it really does not matter what your friends think, if they care for you they will support your decision no matter how they feel about him.

  • hi vicki, im 12 and i have hair down there but not under my arms. I'm a bit self consionsious to change for pe just in case, also i need to wear liners and i do. but for pe i don't want to wear them because we have to change into shorts. i get heavy discharge and i need to wear large liners,i don't want anyone to see the liner! its always worse when i have to be active! (discharge) also i have had discharge for 3 years and i haven't had my period! is all this normal? sorrynif inapropriate. thanks :) xxx

Hi, you really do have nothing to worry about as discharge can often be noticed for longer than a year before the arrival of your period. Why not ask your mum to purchase some of our Lil-Lets teens pant liners for PE they are shorter and narrower so very discreet and will keep you protected for the short time you are active.

  • xjxjxjxjxjjxjxjxjxjxjxj
So I'm a girl and i'm 15 and theres this girl who is a school year older than me but only a few months in reality. I know we both are fangirls of the same person and i'd really like to be friends with her but i don't know how. Also, whenever i'm near her i feel really nervous, does this mean i fancy her or not?

This does not mean you are attracted to this girl, but more that you admire her. Next time you see her, why not mention that you both appear to be fans of the same person and then leave it with her if she wants to carry on the conversation.

  • Hello vicki ,
I think i started my period yesterday but i'm afraid to tell my mum . I'm worried that the blood is going to keep coming for more than it is supposed to .if this does happen did i do something wrong - i'm 13 - any tips

Periods can last anytime between 2-10 days and you really should share this news with your mum who will I am sure explain how periods work in more detail.

  • Hello vicki about 4 days ago i saw a lot of blood in my pants and i am afraid to tell my mum. ( i'm 13 ) i really don't think this is my period because there is always blood dripping and i'm worried about it . Do you this my period or not? I also keep having to go to the toilet in school and it gets really frustrating.any advice?

I do think this is your period and I do think you should share this news with your mum. She will ensure you have some pads so your visits to the toilet can be reduced.

  • Earlier this evening, I had a bath, I drained the bath but there were bunches of bubbles left. Near one bunch, I saw a reddish brown color. Do you think this was my period? I've been waiting for it to arrive since January. [In case it was, I also put on a pad.]

It may have been, it would be very difficult to say. Why not continue wearing a pad or liner for the next few days just in case.

  • Dear Vicki,
I was at school the other day and saw some light brown discharge amongst the milky stuff. Was this a period? I don't know so I haven't told mum yet. Please reply!
    Brodie Xxx

Hi Brodie, this could have been your first period, especially if you have continued to notice this fluid loss today also.

  • Hi! So, at lunch today I went to the toilet and I saw red discharge, was that my period? I've been having discharge since year 6 and im now year 9 (14) I don't know whether it is or not please help!

Yes this could be your first period, so please share this news with your mum or the person who cares for you and they will ensure you have some pads or liners for the next few days and for future periods.

  • Hi Viki
I started my 6th period today with a brown discharge and its very very very light and i have bad cramps this is the first time that my period starts like this πŸ˜”
Please help is it ok for periods to start very very very light? well before i start my period with red colour and light and it gets heavier
    Thanku for ur time
    Therncy

Menstrual fluid can vary from period to period and you may find my blog So What Is Menstrual Fluid a useful and reassuring read..

  • Why is my vagina so itchy I feel like I have worms

If you have threadworms they will come from your anal passage and be noticed at the entrance to your rectum, usually at night. Please speak to your mum or the person who cares for you about your concerns and they will be able to advise you further.

  • Hi vicki
I was wondering if I might start my period soon cos I have discharge, small boobs(i am only ten )and hair in those places.
Do think I'll start my period soon ?
    From Darcey x.

Hi Darcey, with so many signs of puberty already noticed your period may be with you next year or in 2016, so ensure that from now on you have some of our fabulous Lil-Lets teens products with you at all times, in preparation.

  • I started my period this June and I've only had 3 and it's November . I know it will take a while but I'm scared that it will bleed through in school when I don't know , any tips for knowing when your cycle started ?

Why not consider wearing a pant liners on a daily basis if you are worried about your period arriving unexpectedly, lots of girls do and our Lil-Lets teens pant liners are super discreet too.

  • Hi vicki!

So im in year 6 and this boy (lets just call him A) keeps on saying i smell when i dont i asked my friends they say i dont i asked my TEACHER she says i dont he also calls me fat when I'm not it really gets me down :(

    Jasmine
Please can this be in the your body section so i can find it thanks :D

This boy is a bully and you can do one of two things; report him to a teacher and get this stopped. Or confront him, letting him know you do not care what he says and if he is bothered by you so much he may want to consider staying away. You may also find my blog on Bullying useful too.

  • I've been getting a TON of discharge for like the last 2 years and still haven't had my period. I'm a 32 A breast size too. Do you think it will be soon? Thanks! Maggy

Hi Maggy, discharge can often be noticed for longer than a year, and I doubt you will have much longer to wait now, so make sure you have some pads or liners with you from now on.

  • I keep getting really itchy down there

Have a chat to your mum or the person who cares for you asking if they have changed the washing detergent or toiletries as these can often cause irriation in this area.

  • H. I think I have anxiety (I'm really scared of criwds, people, traffic etc, I'm REALLY sensitive to loud noises, I'm always cold etc) what should I do? And this autistic boy in my form fancies me. We used to be friends but now he's a right douche to me and I don't like him! He's also clingy idk what to do! LemonsandlimeS6

Hi, why not read my blog Walk Tall for some confidence boosting tips.

  • Sorry if this is inappropriate, what's a hymen?
    Thanks
P.S: Your website has really helped me!!
    Sophia xxxx

The hymen is a piece of skin that partially covers the entrance to your vagina and you can find out more about your reproductive system by reading my blogs Getting to Know your Reproductive System Inside and Out. Part One and Part Two.

  • hi i'm 14 and im completely flat chested like i have nothing and everyone makes fun of me. im the only person who hasnt started their period in my class. do i need to go to a doctor because im am a normal weight and height but im completely flat chested and everyone bullies me about it

There is no need to visit your GP, periods can arrive anytime between the ages of 8-18 and breasts can continue developing into our late teens or even early twenties. So if you can avoid any teasing and have a chat to friends letting them know how important supporting each other is during puberty.

  • Hi Vicki, love the site btw your great!
Well ive had my period for over a year but for the past two days I have had sort of periody coloured discharge, Is this a period? It doesn't come very often and if it is it would be weird as I have a very heavy flow but this is very light...?!
    Unicorns and sparkly rainbows :)

The type of menstrual flow we notice can vary from time to time as can the colour, this is nothing to worry about and you may find my blog entitled So What Is Menstrual Fluid reassuring.

  • I'm 16 and I haven't started my period yet. This doesn't get me down to but the size of my boobs gets me down I've shown other signs of puberty like pubic hair etc (which I have a very normal amount for my age) but my boobs are so small even the smallest bras have soo much room and padded bras are useless because there's nothing to pad everyone I have asked have just told me to embrace it but i can't I want bigger boobs not for boys or anything like that but for myself! Is there anything I can do at all?!

Breasts continue to grow into our late teens and early twenties, so please try not to worry you have plenty of time for development to occur.

  • Hello Vicki,
So me and this boy got talking to each other then we started dating and meeting up and speaking all the time then he told me his parents said that we cant meet anymore because of the school i go to has a bit of a bad reputation but I'm not like what he thinks i am he broke up with me because of it and now he doesn't speak at all i am really upset and dont know what to do if you could help it would mean a lot
    Thanks
    πŸŽ€πŸŽ€πŸŽ€

I am sorry to hear that your boyfriend's parents are letting the reputation of your school stop them seeing how nice you are. Unfortunately, if this is there wish, this boy has to respect them and it may be time to move on and find someone who cares for you for who you are and not for where you come from.

  • Is the any diet u recommend?
    EmmsΞ

I do not recommend diets of any sort. My tip is to eat a healthy diet of 3 meals a day, not too many sugary or greasy treats and exercise at least 3 times a week for an hour at a time. By doing this your body will find your ideal weight.

  • my friends are quite immature and i feel really left out? what should i do?

It can be hard when you have entered puberty before your friends, but if you can, be patient, they will start to mature very shortly and they are after all still your friends and sometimes it's good to be silly, so please don't feel you have to be serious all the time.

  • Hi Vicki,
I'm 12 in January, I'm a 32A, I have had discharge for 5 months + moodswings. The other day I got really super light brown discharge in my knickers but I've only having discharge since June so could it still be my period??
    Thankyou!!!xxx

Yes this could still be your period as discharge can be noticed for up to 12 months and anything in between, before the arrival of your period.

  • Hey vicki xx ive seen your blog post about managing my period and cramps and it is super helpful and effectivevat home. Do you have any tips for when im out and about like school or car journeys etc xx thanks for all the help x great website!!!

A hot water bottle may be good for long car journeys, however if you exercise for half an our before your journey you may not need a water bottle at all.

  • Hello vicki
So i am 13 years old and havn't started my period yet, my mum started when she was 13 does this mean i will start soon?
    Thanks a lot xxx

Not everyone starts their periods at the same time as family members, so please try not to worry; periods can arrive anytime between the age of 8-18.

  • I have asked my man about getting a bra before. But she said no one else in my year at school wore them so wait a wile. I am now a year older (11years old) and don't know how to ask her again.Have you got any suggestions?

    Worked girl 1234

Why not ask if you can go underwear shopping as you think now is the time for some support in this area. I am sure she will understand, you could even add one to your Christmas Wish list.

  • HELP!!!!
    hi Vicki,
Im 11 and really addicted to porn and masturbating when im alone. Is this normal and if not how can i stop it?
    Thanks xx
Ps. Sorry if it is innapropriate

This is normal and nothing to be worried about, however if you find you do this more often than you feel is suitable, consider leaving your bedroom door open as a deterrent.

  • Hey Vicki, me and my boyfriend are 15 and the other night we had sex and I don't want to tell my mum what shall I do?help;( I think I'm pregnant

If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse then yes you may be pregnant and you can either speak to your parents or visit your GP who will run a test. Alternatively, you can visit your local Brook or Family Planning centre who will run the test too. Finally, I am sure you already know that it is illegal for a boy or man to have sexual relations with a girl under the age of 16 and you would be wise to remind your boyfriend of this.

  • So in my group of friends there's 6 of us but in that group I have one really close friend and everyone knows that. But recently a girl in my group has stopped me allowing to talk to my closest friend. She will always take her hand and pull her away and walk off and I'll be by myself. My closest friend has stopped talking to me now and she just talks to the other girl. All the other girls realise it too and we all agree. I just don't know what to do about it and it's really making me upset.

Maybe it's time to stand up for yourself and when you speak to your friend in future if someone pulls her away, step in and let them know they are being rude and that you had not finished speaking. Very often bullies stop being so rude once someone stands up for themselves.

  • I have lots of spots and I use 2 face washes twice a day and they are getting worse what do I do the get rid of them thanx abby xx

It could actually be the face washes that are making your spots worse. Why not consider using a facial wipe, such as the Simple range once at the end of the day. By using products too often you can strip your skin of the natural oils it needs to keep it hydrated, causing spots and dry or irritated skin.

  • Vicki, I'm worried, I have so small boobs, all my friends have a big bust:(
I always stuff my bra with tissue and it seriously helps to make your boobs look bigger, but I want real boobs!big ones!my nipples are HUGE! Please help and tell me when they will grow, also I keep getting cramps in my lower stomach, I've had discharge for a year, when will I start approximately? Thanks, Emily x

Hi Emily, breasts continue to grow into your late teens or early twenties and I would not advise stuffing your bra with tissue as this can make the skin very sore. If you really cannot wait for growth to happen naturally, consider placing a gel insert inside your bra, these are available in most large stores and preferable to tissue.

  • hi, im 13 and i think i have insomnia because i have all symptoms and signs and i am emotionally upset but my mum doesn't believe me and thinks im lying and won't let me see the GP for more info, what do i do ? because i can't sleep, i cant tell this to anyone else. please help
    ___________________________________________________________________

It is never a good idea to self diagnose and before you rush to any conclusions, have a read of my blog Too Tired for School, you may find some of my tips help you get a good nights sleep.

  • Hi vicki

I had discharge for a while but I never had a clue about it? I thought I had a infection or something. I've started my period now I started a couple of days ago but I get pains inside the stomach and I don't know how to deal with them

    Thanks thando x

Gentle exericise really is the best way to ease any menstrual pain, as is a warm bath and hot water bottle.

  • hello. 2 days ago i found a
Lot of blood when i went to the toilet - i am only 13 - i thought this was my first period but also the blood doesn't stop it is really anoying because i have to keep going to the toilet in school and people keep thinking i have a problem. I really don't don't know what to do i am also really worried .

If you feel your period has arrived you should speak to your mum or the person who cares for you and share this news with them. They will purchase some pads for you to wear and which will keep you protected until break.

  • Hi,

I've recently been diagnosed with PTSD, Schizophrenia, chronic depression, OCD and ADHD. Nobody listens to me, especially my own family and they just tell me to 'get on with it like a normal kid'

This is distressing for me because I know I'm not getting the help I need and it's making things worse. I've tried to kill myself several times but nobody takes me seriously. My mother just insults me and calls me a freak.

Do you have any advice? I'm trying to be normal but I just can't.

    Elm.

If you have been diagnosed with this condition then I am sure you are being assisted in managing this illness by medical professionals. Maybe during your next appointment you could chat to your doctor about working more with your family in an effort to get extra support when at home.

  • I'm 12 and have a push up bra my friend says that it stops your boobs from growing is this true plZ answer asap
    Sophie Keeley
    Xx

Hi Sophie, no this is not true.

  • Hi vicky I really need bras but I'm just too scared to ask my mum so can you please help me out!!!

Why not start by asking your mum how old she was when she got her first bra, this should move the conversation nicely over to you and if you now feel ready for your first bra.

  • hi could u speak to any of the Pretty Little Liars 4main cast for lets talk 2015.
    thank you.
    caira x

Hi Ciara, I will add your suggestion to the list.

  • Hi vicky I started my period yesterday but I didn't bleed for another 2 days what does this mean should I just wait and see or should I tell someone please reply to this as soon as possible thank you!

Menstrual fluid is not released all in one go and it is very normal to have gaps in between noticing blood has been released. I do feel you should share this news with your mum or the person who cares for you now you have noticed this loss.

  • Hi vicky I am 66cm under and 74cm over what size bra am I ? Xx thanks

30AA is your size based on your measurments.

  • Hi Vicki
I've been having countless nightmares about my close friends and people I love dying, getting killed in accidents and stuff. :( It's really upsetting and causes me to oversleep, and my discharge gets so heavy that I feel like I've peed an entire litre when I have those bad dreams, and I always wake up crying... Is there a way to stop these dreams? :/

It is very normal for teenagers to have thoughts of an adult nature with mature themes they may have not considered before being raised; death being just one example. This is part of your journey to becoming an adult and as you continue to develop you will notice they appear less and less and you will understand this is just part of growing up. As for the moisture in between your legs when waking up, this is most likely sweat rather than discharge and nothing to worry about.

  • I keep getting really bad stabbing pains in my breasts and I can't move I just have to lie there for a few minutes ... help

Breasts can be tender, even sore during breast growth and it is nothing to be worried about and you will most likely find these pains subside as you continue developing.

  • Hey Vicki!
So I'm 11 and my bellow section is very confusing
So I've been having hair since like year 2 and discharge since 5 and wiered white stuff actually on my underneath thing and i was just wandering is that's regular
    Jess Xx

Hi Jess, this is all very normal and a sign that your body is working just as it should as you journey on through puberty.

  • Hi Vikki urgent question I have this really painful ache to the left of my vagina please help it really hurts

If you have any pain in this area that is prolonged you should speak to your mum or the person who cares for  you, they will evaluate the situation and make a decision as to whether this is a menstrual cramp or something else.

  • Hi Vicki

I keep getting weird feeling in my Virginia
Every time I . Am near this boy I like what should I do th an k you jelly bean xxx

This is called sexual arousal and you do not have to do anything at all, it is simply another part of puberty and your journey from being a child to an adult.

  • Hi Vicki, so I am 12 and recently I have got my first bf.I was so happy when he asked me out but the problem is I haven't told my family because it is so embarrassing but my best friend has told her parents about me having a boyfriend and I am worried it will get round to my parents. In fairness I have done nothing wrong and they told me they had their first boy/girlfriends in year 6 and I'm in year 7 now but I don't know what to do and I know they will tease me so bad if they find out.

Yes your parent's may tease you if they find out....that is just something they do, but it will not be meant to harm you and will be gentle fun. You could beat them to this by asking if you can invite a friend round for tea and I am sure once they meet your boyfriend and get to know him they will be happy for you and the teasing will stop.

  • Hi Vicki

What is go on stone and yesterday I got hit by a ball in my boon in or and it really hurt an people were laughing what. Is wrong with me or it natural oh and I keep getting weird feeling down below when I see a boy I like

I am 14 by the way thank you sorry if this is a bit interpolate x

It can be painful when we our breasts get knocked accidently and I am sure in a few days this tenderness will disappear with no permanent damage done. As for these feelings you notice when you see someone you like, this is all very normal and called sexual attraction. It is part of changing from an adult to a child and nothing to worry about.

  • Vicki, please help me! I feel so fat and ugly ever since I started my period. I feel so fat I don't want to go out to school, go to the gym or even watch TV because of all the skinny models. What can I do?? Everyone says I look fine but they are just lying! PLEASE HELP ME.

I am sure no one is being untrue when they say you look fine, so please listen to them and have a chat to your parents or another trusted adult about your body image, they should be able to put your mind at rest and help you understand you are perfect just as you are. Finally, try to remember that a great many tricks are used in the media to make people look slimmer than they are and you do not always see the true picture of the person used in the magazine or advert.

  • People at school make fun out of me because im flat chested (32 aa) im 12 and most of my friends have size B do your boobs begin to grow more after your period as i havent stared yet !

Breasts continue to develop into our late teens and even early twenties, so be patient and try not to compare your progress to that of others around you, we are all very different.

  • Can u flush tampons in the toilet after using them?

This is not advisable; tampons should be wrapped in tissue or in a sanitary disposal bag and disposed of with normal household waste.

  • How to tell your mam you want to up use tampons

Why not show her our Becoming a Teen website and the products page. Once she knows there are tampons available for teens and first time users I am sure she will consider your request.

  • has the youtube series finished completely? even the celebrity interviews? they are really helpful x

Our celebrity videos have now all been posted on You Tube for 2014, but you may find our new SmartFit videos worth a watch. Coffee Shop and Marathon.

  • so i've been having discharge for ages and have started my period but if i'm just sitting in class and start my period how will I know that it had come? (without going to the toilet) I am asking this as I don't want my period to come and then leak.
    Thanks xox

Very often when our period arrives the amount of blood that is lost is minimal and you may only notice it when wiping yourself after visiting the toilet. But if you have any worries consider wearing a pant liner on a daily basis to keep you feeling clean and protected.

  • Hi Vicki,
It's really hard to know how much makeup to wear, not at school just on the weekends. But some people wear loads and some don't wear any. What do you think is the right amount for a 13 year old?

I think if your parent's allow you to wear make-up; a little mascara, blusher and clear lip gloss are more than enough for school time, possibly adding a little liner at the weekend.

  • Hello vicki, I have been having white discharge an it's been going on for about 3 years now and the couple of weeks I have had more white discharge. I don't no what to do.
    Jade

Hi Jade, try not to worry lots of girls experience discharge for longer than a year and this is very normal.

  • Have you ever watched The Chase? I really like that TV show, because its almost educational, because its a quiz game show, but it is really good for getting general knowledge. If you haven't watched it, I suggest that you do watch it, because its a great show to watch to relax. 😊

Hi and thanks for the tip, I haven't watched it but other family members do.

  • Hi Vicki, I was wondering if it is normal to experience odd feelings "down below" while watching a kissing scene during a movie? Thanks

    Aimee xoxo

This is very normal and called sexual arousal, this forms part of your journey to becoming an adult and is nothing to worry about.

  • Do you think applicator or non-applicator tampons are easiest for first time use?? :)

Personally I feel non-applicator tampons are by far easier if this is your first time as there are no fussy applicators to use or dispose of.

  • Hi vicky have a really bad day because my friends the people who I am close friend s with decided that they are going to smoke and i have tried to talk them out of it but they won't listen

If you have done your best to speak to your friends about the health dangers of smoking and they have decided to still go ahead, then I am afraid this is all you can do. So please try not to worry and when the moment is right have a word about some of the other less than feminine side effects of smoking such as stained teeth, sallow complexion, not to mention stale breath and clothes.

  • my period came on very heavy, at school I started to feel dizzy, tired, very hot, shaky, sweaty hands, sick & like my eyes were closing. I felt like I could of fainted, this happened a few months ago when I was on my period and i fainted. I was like this for about an hour, it was so bad I went home. So i researched It keeps telling me about anaemia & iron problem (I don't eat that healthy and I'm not sure if I eat enough food with iron ). Do you think I have anaemia do I have to go to the doctor?

You may be slightly anaemic and you may want to speak to your mum or the person who cares for you about this matter. During your period it is very important to eat and drink regularly, especially if you have heavy periods. Foods high in iron are cereals, fruit, green vegetables, beans and red meat. So try to include these in your diet from now on.

  • Hi vicki, I know u have answered LOADS of question about vaginal discharge but I have been having it for about 2 years. I'm nearly 14, my periods haven't started, I'm pretty flat chested, and I i don't have much pubic hair... Is this vaginal discharge that has been occurring for 2 years now something to be worried about?

This is nothing to be worried about and lots of girls find that they experience discharge for longer periods of time, this is simply your body working just as it should to keep your vagina clean and healthy.

  • Hi Vicki, I think I might have a crush on a boy in my school who is 3 years younger than me. Every time I see him my legs turn to jelly and my stomach does a front-flip, the worst thing is that he likes me too! I don't want to feel this way and I don't know what to do. I would be very grateful if you could help me

    A schoolgirl.

If you and this boy like each other I see no reason why you cannot be friends or even date, just as long as intimacy is kept to a minimum.

  • Hi Vicki, I am scared my vagina isn't normal and will not have babies when I am older
    xxxxxxxx

I an unsure as to why you feel your vagina is abnormal so it is very difficult for me to answer your question. What I will say is that vaginas come in a variety of shapes and sizes and no two are every alike, so please try not to worry.

  • I whany to aply for a free sample pack but my mum wont let and I don't know how to ask her again because she said no last time I asked her via email

You have to respect your mum's wishes so why not leave it a while before asking again as our sample packs are filled not only with samples of our teens range but also a Becoming a Teen booklet which is filled with lots of information that will help guide you through puberty.

  • what Is mastbrutaing?

During puberty, there is a massive increase in the activity of sex hormones which causes teens to experience feelings of a sexual nature more than they did before and masturbation is a natural, instinctive way of exploring these new feelings.

  • Hey Vicki,
I have been quite upset recently and all friends are getting annoyed with me that I'm being really quiet which I'm not normally like and they're not accepting that I'm upset about things but don't want to talk about it or tell anyone about it. And I can't help it. Also I don't really want to talk to my parents about it.

Puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time in a young person's life as they struggle to come to terms with all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once but you should find that talking to someone about your feelings will help you to feel better.  Serotonin levels (the body's happy hormone) are at their lowest during puberty which leaves teens susceptible to stress so try dancing to your favourite music, watching some funny films and most importantly of all, talk to your friends, family or a trusted adult about how you're feeling.

  • hey vicki! its Brianna again, the one who asked about her crush who said she was just an option.. My brother and his friends called me flat chested and it was in the middle of the school, so everyone heard. everyone laughed at me and I feel so sad. -Brianna PS you're so helpful <3

Hi Brianna, try to ignore the immature behaviour of your brother and his friends and try to remember that we all develop at different rates to each other.  It is useful to remember that breasts can continue to develop up until a girl's 20's so you still have plenty of time.  Thank you for the support.

  • I've been having discharge for just over 2 years and lately i've been getting more than usual and its smelling quite a bit too. I get really self conscious that other people can smell it please help!!

It is normal for discharge to have an odour but nothing too offensive.  You might like to try using pant liners and Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up Wipes to keep you feeling fresh and clean down there.

  • I'm 14 years old and I'm a late bloomer. I haven't started my period yet, I have had discharge for a couple months I'm guessing, I have pubic and underarm hair, I'm 4 foot 7 and I weigh 96 pounds. I'm pretty skinny, I have no boobs at all and a small butt. I'm going into high school next year and I look 12. EVEN WITH A LOT OF MAKEUP ON. Btw my mom started her period at 14.

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • I still haven't got my period yet,but I'm 20,what should I do

Go to visit your GP for peace of mind.

  • Hi Vicki, Lily-Mae again! Was just wondering how long can you roughly wear a night towel for? (I use kotex maxi towels at night). I am a really heavy sleeper and can sleep for over 12 hours straight! I know its bad but I can get to school and that I just don't want to fill my towel so much it doesn't hold. Thanks! Part 1 of 2

Hi LilyMae, as menstrual blood loss usually reduces by up to 40% at night, you shouldn't have to worry about leaking through your towel but just be sure to change as soon as you're up in the morning.

  • Hi,
How long does it take the Lil-Lets sample pack to arrive?
    Fleur

Hi Fleur, I would allow a couple of weeks at least to receive a sample pack from us.

  • Hi Vicki,
I'm 12 years old (year 8) and overweight. My breasts are reasonably large, but is it just because I'm fat? A lot of other girls say "Boobs don't count if you're fat." Is it true? What are they made out of anyway? I mean, it's not like I want to show them off, just to know. Sorry for so many questions :/
    Thanks, A Unicorn.

Puberty is naturally a time when bodies begin to change with hips becoming wider, breasts becoming fuller and rounder and please remember that we all develop at different rates to each other.  It really isn't a competition to see who has the biggest breasts so try not to worry about the immature comments of some.  By sticking to a healthy balanced diet that is filled with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and being as active as possible, you will soon develop into your more grown-up self.  For your information, breasts comprise of milk glands, tissue, fat and muscle.

  • Hi Vicki
Your website is really helpful by the way
I'm 14, and I haven't started my periods yet. I am nearly developed but they just haven't come. What should I do?

Thank you for the words of support.  The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi Vicki,
Are there any signs that mean you are a couple of weeks/months away from your menarche? Because I have been having lower stomach cramps, my pubic hair is darkening and I have had discharge for roughly about a year. Also is it nomal to talk about ;when you think you are going to get your menarche, share menarche stories and say when you think they are going to get it; with your close friends?
    Thanks,
    Cordy

Hi Cody, as you've been releasing discharge for roughly a year, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.  I think it's a great idea to share your experiences with your friends as you will all be able to manage your periods better.

  • I'm worried about my sister. She's in year 7 and has already got in with the 'wrong crowd' I keep trying to explain to her that they're not her real friends but she wants to be popular and I'm so worried about her. She's doesn't talk to me anymore and she's blocked me on all social media so I don't know what she's getting up to. I know it's not really what this question this is for but i an opinion on what to do
    Xx

Your concern for your sister is lovely but you have to allow her the time and space to find her place with her new friends even if you do think they're wrong for her.  Talk to your mum or guardian about your concerns and ask if he/she will talk to her.  As long as she knows that her family is there to support her, she should find her own way and will soon be able to see through the girls who you believe are bad company.

  • Please please help asap I recently started my period and I was looking with a mirror down there to see where to insert the tampon but I have this blob of pinky purpley skin over my vaginal opening answer asap !!!!! Xxx

You describe the thin piece of skin which is called the hymen which partially covers the entrance to the vagina.  It can be easily stretched back without the knowledge of the girl when she is participating in a sport, riding a bike or using a tampon.  Check out my blog on Getting to know the Reproductive System - the inside story for more help with this.

  • Hey Vicki, I've had my period for 6 years now & it became regular.
In the past month, 2 weeks before my period, I had very light bleeding, with bright pink blood.
Then for 2 weeks, II've had spotting.
Then now period is due, thick brown blobs of blood are coming out.
My mum is telling me it sounds like pregnancy, butt I've never had sex! I'm really worried :(

The only way you could possibly be pregnant is if you have had sexual intercourse so try not to worry.  However, as your period is a little irregular, ask your mum to book an appointment with your GP for peace of mind.

  • Hi Vicky I was just wondering I have had this brown discharge in my pants so I am wearing a pad but I haven't had like anything before now is it my period and will it be regular? I do normal get whitish discharge and have got 34a ad have pubic hair so do you think it is? Thanks lollipop xxx

Hi Lollipop, try not to worry as brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Is there any way of you knowing who has asked all the questions?

No as the questions are posted as 'No reply' so we have no idea who has posted them.

  • This is purely just a curious question as I'm only 11 and obviously not even thinking about having sex yet. I know if you have sex you have to use a condom or you at risk of getting pregnant. But you can't get pregnant if you haven't started your period. So if you have sex before you have started your period (I know this really stupid and against the law as you will be too young) is it ok not to use a condom?

Although rare, it is possible to become pregnant when you haven't started your period.

  • Hi, I asked you a few days ago what it meant when someone had asked you to add someone to the list and you replied telling me it could mean different things so I should ask the person who said it to me. But I meant it as I have seen other girls on here who have asked you a question, saying can you add a certain celebrity to the list for 2015. I was wondering what this meant. Thanks, Emma xx

Hi Emma, it's true that 'adding something or someone to the list' can mean so many different things so why not ask this person exactly what they meant by it.  We talk about adding a celebrity to the list of prospective people we might use for a future promotional campaign.

  • Hi vicki,
In your personal opinion, do you think victoria secret nras are suitable for nearly 14 years olds?
    Also push up bras??

I think Victoria's Secret have some beautiful designs of bras and it is really up to your parents or guardians to decide if you can wear them or not and the same applies to push-up bras.

  • hi, im 16, turning 17 in less than a month... i was wondering, do i need parental permission to go on the pill? also, my mum died of breast cancer, does this effect whether certain types of contraception will increase my risks? thanks

As you are 16, you do not need parental permission to go on the contraceptive pill but please talk to your GP about your concerns and he will be able to advise you.

  • how does a mom get pregnant

A female becomes pregnant by having sexual intercourse with a male.

  • I am 12 and i have already tried on a bra and it fit but how do i tell my mum because i went without her

I'm sure your mum will understand so try not to worry as she was a young girl going through puberty once.  For more help with this, check out my blog on Talking to Mum & Dad.

  • Lets say your mum had a light period would it be more likely that you would?

We don't always follow our mums so try to be patient and wait and see how your menstrual flow will be.

  • Dear vicki I want to thank you so much you have helped me tremendously over the years xxx I started my period on the 16th And have had it everyday since now the 18th everything is completely normal and regular and today I was shown a picture of this boy I likes pubes and I was wondering if it's weird that I want to see that picture again thanks Chocolate orange πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Hi Chocolate Orange, thank you so much for your words of support.  It is perfectly normal to be curious about boys' bodies due to the increase in activity of sex hormones so try not to worry.

  • i feel like my world is falling apart,
my best friends keep arguing and i am left in the middle of it and i am really stressed at the moment due to something really personal
I honestly can't cope and i keep feeling like i am about to puke all the time what can i do?

Puberty can already be a most difficult and demanding time for a young girl so with the added stress of whatever it is that's bothering you, it's easy to understand your anxiety.  Please talk to your mum, guardian or trusted adult about how you're feeling and ask your friends to discuss their differences in a clam manner instead of arguing with each other.  As for feeling like you need to be sick all the time, should be checked out by your GP.  It might be a symptom of your stress but your GP will give you peace of mind.

  • I would just like to say thank you for all your help:-) I was also wondering if you could give some advice. I guess I am categorised as quiet. I rarely raise my hand in class etc. Have you got any tips on over coming this? I have been told that I need to volunteer answers more often in some subjects. Thanks again! x

Firstly, thank you for your words of support.  Secondly, puberty can be a time when teens lack self-confidence brought about by all the physical and emotional changes they are undergoing so try to consider ways of giving it a boost - joining a club for something you enjoy would be a good place to start.

  • Hi Vicki
I'm 12 years old and in year 8. My bra size is 32B but all my friends are As and AAs. Am I really big for my age? Also my mum is quite big so does that mean I will be?
    Thank you xxx

You are perfect just as you are so try not to worry and remember that we are all made in different shapes and sizes with bodies that develop at different rates to each other.

  • Hi Vicki
So there is this guy I like and I've known him for 4 years but I've only talked to him once. I get on the same bus as him but we go to different schools. I'm in year 8 and he is in year 10. I really like him but every time I go to talk to him he is with all his friends and I get scared. I don't know what to do. How do I make him notice me without having to talk to him?
    Please write back soon
    Thanks xxxxx

For some help with this, please check out my blog on Your First Love.

  • Hi Viki!!
So, my friends mum has just died on Saturday. She found out on Sunday and her mum died on hers sisters 7th bday :'( . now I can't stop going up to her and hugging her. I think I want to b a lesbian with her. She was my friends friend. But know I like her!
    Thanks! I luv dis site!
    Portia xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Portia, I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's mum's passing especially on her young daughter's birthday, it is so very sad.  It is nice to hear that you are supporting your friend in offering lots of hugs but rather than focusing on your attraction to her, I think you should put your personal feelings aside for the moment and concentrate on supporting her at this tragic time.

  • Iv been having do sarge for 3 year I had my first period vpbak in June but nothing since recently discharge has been getting a lot thickets and gooaer help me

During the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi Vicki,
Long story short ;my perineum is saggy and generally like an empty bag ,should I be worried (I'm only 13) I hope this isn't innapropriate I just really want to know
    Megan x

Hi Megan, it is perfectly normal for the skin to hang down and be saggy around your urethra so please try not to worry.  For more information, check out my blog on Getting to know the Reproductive System - the outside story.

  • Hi can you interview ellie Goulding an she is amazing

I quite agree, Ellie Goulding is fabulous.  I will forward your suggestion on to the team.

  • Hello vicki so i have had discharge for more than a year now but havnt started my period and at the start of the year once a month i would get really bad cramps and my discharge would get heavier i havnt had it since does this mean my first period is coming soon?
    Thanks a lot xxx

As you've been releasing discharge for over a year, I can only guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • I am 14 yet I haven't started my periods. Nearly all my friends have and I don't want to be the last one. Is this something to worry about! Thanks
    Mia x

Hi Mia, try not to worry as we all develop at different rates to each other.  The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi! Apparently (he is his friend from class) said my boyfriend said I was a stereotypical b***h, I don't know if I should beleive him. Thank you so muchπŸ’—πŸ’˜πŸ’•

This might be a case of your boyfriend's friend trying to make trouble for you so I would try to forget about it.

  • Hi Vicki I need some help and as soon as possible. So today I got some news that made me want to cry- my friend got our little gang of us together and rolled up her sleeve- she had been cutting her self and some saw her. I was worried because she sed don't tell any1. So I haven't part from you. I don't want to tell her mum then she hates me till the day I die. Please please help. I'm so worried
Thank you so so so much
    :) (so I know it's mine)

I will start by saying what a lovely girl you are for being so concerned about your friend.  Self-harming is an expression of intense, negative feelings that aren't her fault so please encourage her to speak to a trusted adult or Mindline on 0300 1233393 to get her the professional help she needs.

  • Hi Vicki! I was chatting with my crush recently and he said that I was just an option for when he has no one else to talk to. I was really hurt :( what should I do? I have friends but the don't understand, Ive told them already. Im 13 years old :) -Brianna

Hi Brianna, how cruel of your crush to say such a mean thing to you.  Please try to move on and forget about him as you deserve so much better.

  • Hi Vicki kendall again
Sorry if this is inappropriate but it's been worrying me for a bit.
Sometimes "down there" smells a bit fishy? Sometimes it's fine. I looked for some answers on the internet and they were saying about " cottage cheese" consistency discharge and I don't have that? I really don't want to go to the doctor is this normal for discharge to smell a bit iffy?
    Thanks, kendall xx

Ps. I haven't had intercourse with anyone

Try not to worry as it is perfectly normal to notice a slight odour from discharge.  You might like to consider using pant liners and Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up Wipes as they will keep you feeling fresh and clean down there.

  • hi, so on tne 8th of nov. I got some dark stuff in my pink undies so i thought it was my period but the first problem was: my undies were pink and the second was: later that day i check my undies and there was nothing there like it had dried up and dissapeared. Also today -18th nov- i saw very very light brown discharge was this my period cause if it was it would have been my 3rd thnx Hannah.

Hi Hannah, it is possible that this could have been your period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Hi Vicki! I just want to say I've started talking to this older boy, he turned 17 in early November and I'm turning 15 In 2 months time, I've dated 2 year older boys before but for this boy she seems to have a problem! He is really nice to me and we get along very well! Any advice on how to persaude them to allow me to see him? Thankyou x

You have to respect your mum's wishes so be honest with her and tell her why you like this boy.

  • Hi vicki,
I normally get like notmal discharge but i have now started to get lightish brown discharge what is this?
    From lils

Hi Lils, brown discharge can present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • hi Vicky

how do i ask my mom if i can shae my legs? im 12 they are really hairy and i get quite embarrassed about them, also im the only girl in my year that doesnt shave!

    How do i ask?

    thanks
    Tegan

Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed about wanting to shave your legs.  Why not start the conversation by asking if she will show you how to do it safely?

  • Hey Vicki!
I'm 12 years old and I've just recently started blossoming in my chest. My chest is rounded out now, still very small however. I'm a 30-32 A and my mother is completely flat chested. No chest what so ever! I know I have a long way to go until my breasts are done growing, but will I be flat/small chested like my mother?

We are all made in different shapes and sizes and this is what makes us who we are.  Try to be patient as breast development can continue up until a girl's 20's so you have plenty of time.

  • Heya Vicki <3
When I turned 14 I had my first period. However since then it has been a year and two months and I have only had about 5 period. It's really embarrassing because everyone else has a regular period now and I still feel uncomfortablewhen i get mine as it still feels new to me! After more than a year! I do seven hours of sport a week and I eat a lot but can't seem to put weight on. I am underweight but not unhealthy. What is happening?
    Anna xxx :)

Hi Anna, try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.  It is possible for it to be irregular like this for up to 2 years.  For peace of mind, ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP.

  • So I have brown discharge and a little blood but I am not sure if this IS my period or it is the lead UP to my periodπŸ˜… because I am unsure on when my period is due so yeah :/ there is only a little blood, mostly brown discharge! So do you think my period is coming or is this my period?? Thanks :) iloveeatingmaltesers πŸ’• ps) I have had my period before πŸ‘Œ

As you have already started your period, try not to be alarmed as brown blood is simply old blood and is considered a clearing out of the vagina.

  • Hiya viki I am 12 only just {11 days ago it was my bday} I got piriods when I was 11 and pubic hair and my boobs a quite big am I to young for all this also do other girls have all of this

You have described all the natural signs of puberty so try not to worry as girls can start their period as young as the age of 8.

  • I want to tell my mum i need a bra but i have already tried one on but without her how can i tell

Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty so there is no need to worry about wanting to wear a bra - please just talk to her.

  • Why is puberty so slow? I started puberty just over 2 years ago and not much has changed and I haven't got my period yet.

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi Vicki xx

I'm 11 years old and I am pretty small and I have tiny boobs I have breast buds in both of my nipples so how long would it take for them to grow bigger

    Thanks xx Lilly xx

The thing is that we all develop at different rates to each other so try to be patient as it is possible to notice breast development up until a girl's 20's so you have plenty of time.

  • there is a boy who stopped talking to me for nearly a year but we were close friends until it was my birthday and I could tell he stopped speaking to me today and I asked the girl who he likes what's up with him and she wouldn't tell me. I got upset as I thought me and her were friends, and he never has a reason but he always stops talking to me. He is starting to really annoy me

He has made a choice to stop talking to you for some reason and even though he can see that you are bothered by it, he still chooses to ignore you so why not try acting indifferent, like you really don't mind if he talks to you or not.  To be honest, you really don't need friends like this, you deserve better.

  • Hi Vicki,
    My underbust is: 61cm
    My bust is: 80cm
    What bra size am I?
    Am I between band sizes?

Your bra size is a 28D but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.

  • How do you know when your about the start your period ?

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi vicki
I am a bit anxious because I feel quite developed yet I haven't started my periods yet.
Is this something to worry about
    Sophie x

Hi Sophie, try not to worry as we all develop at different rates to each other.  The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi vikki , im now in yr 7 and al myy friends have started their period . I feel like im an alien or something . I have boobs and my mum tels me that its nothing exciting but I want to be the same as everyone else . All I have is like a diischarge in my pants everytime I go to the toliet . I really feel upset because I want to start and be the same , what should I do ?

Try not to worry and remember that we all develop at different rates to each other.  As you've already begun to release discharge, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

Be honest with your parents and tell them that you like this boy.

  • Hi vicki,so ive had periods for like a year and a half, but i find pads really annoying and uncomfortable. So i was thinking about tampons, but my mum has never really used tampons and she thinks there unsafe. What can i do? (Im 14 by the way) Xx

If you feel ready to try using tampons, ask your mum if she would consider buying you some Lil-Lets teens Regular non-applicator tampons as they are ideal for first-time use having been designed for the smaller bodies of young girls.  It is good to know the facts and I think your mum's fears about tampons would relate to Toxic Shock Syndrome but please allow me to put your minds at rest by assuring you that TSS is an extremely rare disease that affects a very small percentage of the population.  You can get it from burns, insect bites, after having surgery or occasionally when you are menstruating and using a tampon.  I would ask that you read everything you can on the illness so you have all the facts but please bear in mind that this illness affects around only 40 people in Britain each year.

  • HI Vicki, I love your blog and this website.
I'm 13 years old, 14 in December and I have had discharge for 1 months. Both my older sisters and my mum started their periods at 14 . How long is it normal to have discharge before starting your periods and roughly when do you think I will start.
    Thank T.R.C xxx

Thank you for your support.  It is normal to release discharge for between 6-12 months before your period arrives.

  • Hi Vicki, i was wondering about masturbation and if you rub something in your, well you know, vagina, if that is masturbation. Thanks

    p.s. sorry if it's innapropiate

Masturbation is something that is done by instinct and is definitely not something I can tell you how to do.

  • Hi vicki, i love your blog and this website x
Im 13 years old, 14 in december and i have had discharge for 11 months. Both my older sisters and my mum started thei periods at 14. How long do you usually have discgarge for before your first period abd roughly when do you think i will start xx
    Thanks Tendi

Hi Tendi, as you've already been releasing discharge for almost a year, I guess that your period isn't too far away.  Thank you for your words of support.

  • Hi Vicki. I have not got my period yet but I am wearing liners for discharge . Is this ok ?? Xx please answer asap πŸ’œ

Absolutely yes.  Pant liners are ideal for protecting your underwear from the effects of discharge.

  • Vicki,
Lately, I have been getting VERY light discharge in my knickers along with cramps around my lower waist. Is this my first period?!? Please help!!
    Thanks,
    Natasha

Hi Natasha, discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and also tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives and this is usually within 6-12 months.  Menstrual blood is red in colour so you will know what to look out for.

  • Hi Vicki,
I was wandering for the free sample thingies on the envelope does it mention or have logos etc about this site or lil lets as i want to do this without my family as i would feel incredibly embarrassed if my step dad saw that.
    Hope you can help me.
    Thanks,
    ConfusedGirl
    xxx

Try not to worry as our Jiffy envelopes have no Lil-Lets logo on them so they will be totally discreet.

  • how do i get a sample because i'd really like to try lil-lets products xxx

If you would like to ask for your mum's or guardian's permission to request a free sample from our teens range, then pop onto the home page of this website and fill in your details from the Contact tab at the bottom of the page.

  • is it true that if you sleep with a bra on your boobs wont grow?

There is no truth in this.

  • Hi vicki
I'm 13 years old and I still haven't kissed any one and it makes me really upset because all of my friends either have been kissed or have boyfriend and I feel really left out because I really like a boy but he doesn't like me
    Thanks for listing H
P.s my best friend self harms because she said her pernts don't love her what do I do plz help

Try not to worry as a first kiss is a special event in someone's life and you shouldn't rush into it simply because your friends have all had theirs.  Try to remember that it isn't a competition and wait until you meet a boy who likes you as much as you like him.  As for your friend, please ask her to either talk to a trusted adult or to call Mindline on 0300 1233393 so she can get the professional help she needs.

  • PART 2 hes like YOU KNOW WHY YOU GOT THAT DETENTION (even tho i didnt&when i asked he threatened to send me out) i noticed he wasnt in school today was it because the whole class shouted at him? i just hate him so much its only november idk how imma handle him until july & he doesnt even know how to handle a bunch of average-ly behaved yr 8s i dont know how he is a teacher i cant stand his lessons he gives so many ppl detentions for nothing should i report him? surely what hes doing is wrong?
    SNAPDRAGON

As stated in Part 1, please talk to your parents about this and ask your friends to talk to their parents too.

  • I don't know how to ask mum if she Can get me some liners ..😩😩and I also do t want to send her an e-card because then she will know iv been on the iPad what shall I do πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜‚..tai

Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed about wanting to wear pant liners.  Please just talk to her.

  • i am 12 and i sometimes find a whitish brown dot in my pants and i don't know what to do or if it is even discharge. i have been having for this for 2 or 3 years and am wondering when i will start my period

Brown discharge can often present itself s a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian to buy some pads for you and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • What do I use to stop discharge

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by the glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found naturally on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and also tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives.  There is nothing you can do to stop discharge but you might like to consider using pant liners and Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up wipes as they will help to keep you feeling fresh and clean down there.

  • Hi πŸ’¬πŸ’¬πŸ’¬ part 1
I need ya'll help cause I got to bed at nine but end. Up going to sleep at like midnight cause I overthink about everything and then I overthink about going to sleep and start getting really stressesd cause I'm not asleep and then I'm like omg i need to sleep and then I get panicked. Part 2

You might like to consider learning some relaxation techniques but first make sure that you are feeling tired before you go to bed by doing some physical exercise, whether it be participating in a sporting activity or simply dancing in your bedroom.  You could have a relaxing soak in the bath and if you have a tv in your bedroom, try not to watch it as this will stimulate your brain so try taking some deep breaths and relax.  You might also like to consider doing some Yoga as this will teach you to relax.

  • hi vicki PART 1
its so annoying the teachers which i like i only get to have a couple times a week but the teachers i hate i have to have every single day. i hate my english teacher our whole class does on the way to english we walk really slowly and together LITERALLY ALL OF US on friday he gave me a detention for asking a boy to give my sheet back and then the whole class started shouting at him. a couple of people even went up to him after school
    snapdragon

Hi Snapdragon, I do not for one minute condone the bad behaviour of a class full of children who shout at their teacher but then I also believe that we have to earn respect - something your English teacher is clearly struggling with.  Please talk to your parents and ask them to call your school about this and if you can get any of your friends to do the same, this would hopefully help him to get the support he needs to control your class and earn the respect he should command.

  • If your mum had a light period, would it be likely that you would get a light period?

Not necessarily as we don't always follow our mums.  Just wait until you've experienced a few periods and you will have a good idea of how your flow will be.

  • Heya vicki
I'm 16 and started college. My boobs are really tiny for my age. Most other people have quite bigger boobs than me at this age. How old are you when your boobs stop growing and when will they start growing more and become fuller?
    Thanks
    XxxxTxxxx1515

Try to remember that we all develop at different rates to each other and it is possible for breasts to continue to develop up until a girl's 20's.

  • hi Vicky
so I have had breast buds since I was like 8/9 and I turned 13 last week, with still no boobs. After developing "breast buds" How long does it take for the breast to actually grow? Lily xxx

Hi Lily, breasts develop at different rates but they can continue to develop up until a girl's 20's.

  • For the last week or so, I've felt either queasy or ill after eating, even after eating only a little bit of food. Is this normal, or should I talk to someone about it?
    Kara

Hi Kara, ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP for peace of mind.

  • Hi Vicki, I am a bit worried that I haven't started puberty yet, I am 13 and all my friends have their period. My mum got her period at 13 and my twin sister started at 12. But I haven't shown any signs of puberty yet, I am flat chested and have no underarm or public hair. Should I be worried?

Try not to worry and remember that we all develop at different rates to each other.  It is possible for breasts to develop up until a girl's 20's and the best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • has the youtube series finished forever? even the celebrity interviews? thanks, they were really really helpful x

Unfortunately, we are done for this year but I'm sure we will have more things planned for next year.  Thank you for the support.

  • My best friends is J, and he has a friend-S. Me and J are closer friends than him and S. But he and S made a Summer fun list last year.I asked why I wasn't included and he said S is moving to America. But she still has not left today, almost 2015. Then he goes to rollercoaster parks, puppy rescue centres and the mall with S and never invites me with. But when I don't invite J to the movies, once, when I wasn't even supposed to go with, he gets all offended. Please help :p

I think that you really need to discuss this with J as it seems that it's okay for him to arrange to do things without you but when the situation is reversed, he doesn't like it.  Just tell him that you are upset with his unfair behaviour.

  • I recently asked you about some quite severe cramps and you replied with ask your guardian to take you to your GP for peace of mind. I do not feel comfortable with this but am worried if I do not go there could be something wrong with me that goes undetected. What can I do?

The thing is that so many of us experience stomach cramps with our periods and the degree of pain and discomfort can differ tremendously.  You could first try taking some gentle exercise, using a hot water bottle, having a soak in the bath or ask your mum or guardian of you can take some painkillers to see if any of this helps but if the pain is too severe, your GP will be able to help you manage your pain better and give you peace of mind.  Try to remember that periods are a natural occurrence in the life of every girl so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed.  Your GP will be so used to dealing with this common complaint.

  • Hey Vicki
I started my period in September but I haven't had one since. I'm worried that it wasn't my period. When will I get my next one?
    2503

During the early stages of the menstrual cycle it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi vickyi I'm 16 in just over a month and I still haven't had my first period should I see a doctor ? I am well developed but still have got no period x

Try not to worry as it possible for girls to start their period up to the age of 18.  The best way of knowing when this might happen is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi, so its my birthday soon, and my mum was wondering what I wanted so I said I few things i wanted then she said she would give me Β£50 for my whole precent and nothing else. And i know this sounds so ungrate ful but its not like we are the poorest or anything and its just made me feel sad as all my other friends got about Β£500!

I'm sure your mum is doing the best she can so please do try to appreciate whatever she gives you and try to think of all the children who are less fortunate than you in the world.

  • Some of the people in my year are lesbian and I feel real awkward around them, it's not that I don't agree with it it's just that I am a bit confused
    Any thoughts? xxxx

It doesn't really matter what a person's sexuality is, they are simply people so just be yourself and treat them as such.

  • Hi i am 13 and my boobs have grown and I have. Had discharge and public hair but today I had browny stuff in my pants. Is this a sign my period is about to come ? Thanks xx

Brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Vicki I'm worried as my boyfriend keeps on asking for sex and we're only 15 but I don't want to break up.. What should I do??!

The Law of Consent states that it is illegal for a boy to have any kind of sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16.  If this boy truly cares for you, he would respect you and the law.

  • Hey Vicki! Erm, for like 2 years I have had really hard and sore nipples and my boobs have grown a tiny bit a real tiny bit and boys keep on making fun of me for how small they are, what can I do to make them bigger and when will they grow? Also I always get really bad pains at the bottom of my belly and sometimes cramps? Also white patches leak in my pants, when will my period start? Please answer quick ?x

First of all, the best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.  Secondly, try to remember that we all develop at different rates to each other and it is possible for breasts to continue to develop up until your 20's so you still have plenty of time.

  • Hey, I would like to use tampons as I do lots of sport, but I'm really terrified of getting TSS as one of my friends got it. I lave a very light flow and I've only had my period for a year (I'm 15). What are the chances of me getting TSS and are tampons ok for a light flow?
    Thanks xxx

Try to remember that TSS is an extremely rare disease that affects a small percentage of the population.  It is believed that it affects about 40 people in Britain each year. You can get it from lots of things like insect bites, burns, after having surgery and occasionally if you are menstruating and wearing a tampon.  As your flow is light, you might like to try using our Lil-Lets teens Regular tampons as they are ideal for first-time use having been designed especially for the smaller bodies of young girls.  See how you get on, but if your flow is too light, you should really stick with pads.

  • Is it supposed to hurt the first time you put a tampon in. PLEASE HELP!!

The secret is to be as relaxed as possible and that you first try using tampons on day 2 or 3 of your period when your flow is at its heaviest as this will make the tampon easier to insert.  You might find it a little strange at first but with practice you will soon be able to enjoy the discreet protection that wearing tampons provides to millions of women and girls all over the world.

  • Heya Vicki. Do you have any tips on how to gain Weight? Because I hate my small thin arms and my skinny belly. Do u have any tips instead of just eating more food?

    Diamondsinthesky xxx

Hi Diamondsinthesky, puberty is a time when your body undergoes so many physical changes that it can take a while to develop into your more adult body.  As long as you stick to a healthy, balanced diet, you should find that you will easily maintain a healthy weight.

  • Is there a certain size you think is good to start wearing a under wired bra?
    XxEmmaXx

Hi Emma, not really as it's all down to personal choice.

  • Dear Vicki
I haven't had any discharge on my knickers, but yesterday got a small blob of blood on my knickers is it my period?

It is possible that this was your period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • hi vicki
i found out my boyfriend went to a dance with another girl, and then she kissed him. his best friend told me, his best friend told me he had a secret i asked my boyfriend and he said it was true. before i had asked him about his secret and he wouldn't tell me. was he trying to hide it
    should i dump him

Kissing another girl is not something you do when you are loyal to one person so I think you should really talk to your boyfriend and find out where you stand.

  • how do u know when u have started your perod?
    thanks...

You will know when you have started your period by the presence of menstrual blood.

  • Hey vicki,
Heres the thing, im 12 and all my friends are allowed to go into town together and they show pictures to me of them having loads of fun and stuff. when i asked my parents if i could go into town they said when im 16 i can go into town. I feel as though whenever they go into town together their relationship is getting stronger and mine is not , i also feel left out and sad.
    can you help?
    thanks,
    LIly-mia xx

You could talk to your parents and tell them how excluded you feel but you will ultimately have to respect their wishes.

  • Hi Vicki,
I've had discharge for a while now, I'm fully developed but, no period I'm 14, should I be worried?

It is normal to release discharge for between 6-12 months before your period arrives.

  • Hi I have sent you an email asking for some free samples and wondered if you had seen it .I learnt about your company when my friend lent me one of your pads when I ran out at school it was so comfy I have to get some more I just want to see which ones best first thanks love olivia xxx

Hi Olivia, if you have completed your details into the Contact tab from the home page, your request will now be in the process of being dealt with so you should receive your sample within the next week or so.  Thank you for the support.

  • Hi Vicki its ELLA AND HOLLIE again. What is discharge ? Thanks. xx

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and also tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives.

  • I'm not one of the people who've had Wful things happen to them in fact I've had avert thing right really but recently I've just felt so sad and alone for no reason and I don't know what to do. I cut myself I cut my thighs and I don't know shy because nothing bad has brought it on. I'm 12 btw and in pe I think one of my close friends noticed and she told my best friend but I haven't seen her yet she's just texted me. I really don't know what to do.

Self-harming is an expression of intense negative feelings that aren't your fault as puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time in a young person's life.  Serotonin levels (the body's natural happy hormone) are at their lowest leaving teens susceptible to stress so please talk to a trusted adult as a matter of urgency to get you the professional help you need.  You can also call Mindline on 0300 1233393 for confidential help and support.

  • Hey Vicki! I have been developing breasts, and need to start wearing a bra , i have discharge ,hair ,growth spurt ,and I'm on my way to a period I'm having some trouble with these changes... HELP!!:)

    Thanks,Brooklyn

Hi Brooklyn, puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time in a young person's life but the thing to remember is that it is a natural process that we all have to go through.  Try reading all the information on our website to help guide you through and if you have any problems, I would be more than happy to help you.

  • Hi Vicki
    I am 13 years old
Yesterday there was some blood on my knickers so I told my mum and she got me some pads. However today nothing happened (no blood) and my mum said it wasn't my period what was it ?.was it my period?

It is possible that this was your period as during the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi vicki
So lately my mums been acting really different lately and I'm scared something's wrong and something might happen to her.Lately she's been feeling really sick and sometimes she gets blood in her poo but she went doctors ages ago and they said she had piles and to come back if it got worse. I think it has and everytimd I tell her to do doctors she doesn't listen and I'm scared it might be something serious and I really don't want to lose her.
    ITennishamster210600 part 1

You sound like a lovely girl who obviously cares for her mum so please talk to her and tell her how worried you are for her.  She has already done the right thing by going to see her GP so she is in good hands.  Try not to worry and talk to her.

  • Hi Vicki
Can you feel your period? because I don't know if a little bit of blood on my knickers is me starting or not and I am worried because at school tomorrow we are having a talk on periods and other changes ,in classes of just girls.
I have told my mum and she is getting me pads but what if it isn't a period?

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free from infection and also tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives and this is usually within 6-12 months.  You will know when your period has arrived when you notice menstrual blood.  Wearing pant liners will not only protect your underwear from the effects of discharge but also from possible leakage when your period arrives.

  • Hi Vicki
Thank you for answering my last question!
I was wondering if you could have you period for only 1 day then the next time you have it ,it is a few months later?

During the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi. I really look forward to a teacher's lesson and try my utmost hardest on homework in an attempt to impress him. I had him lower down the school but know he forgot my name! He said not to take it personally but I have. I mean he could remember my friends name but not mine! He taught me for 2 years prior to this year and seems to avoid eye contact with me, I don't know why this is. I am worried because parents evening is soon. What is going to happen... thanks Viki:-)

If you can try to imagine the sheer amount of student's names that a teacher has to remember, you might be able to excuse him for not remembering yours so please try not to be offended as I'm sure he didn't intend to upset you.  As a professional, your teacher will give an honest account of your ability in class and I'm sure he knows how hard you work so please try not to worry.

  • Hi Vicki i haven't started a period yet but i would like to keep some pads just in case what size shall i go for?

Lil-Lets teens Day and Night towels are ideal for young girls who have just started their period as they have been designed especially for the smaller bodies of young girls.

  • Hi Vicki
I'm an 13years old and when I came back from horse ridding yesterday I had a small circle of blood on my knickers. I told my mum I had started my period, but today there is no blood. Was it my period or was it something else?

There is a good chance that this was your period so be sure to ask your mum for some pads and see what happens int he coming weeks and months.

  • Hi vicki , the other night I had a lot of this brown thick (doesn't smell) substance in my pants .... I don't know what IT is at all . I've had it 2 days now . Is this my period or ??? Xx

Brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • I am 15 and hate pubic hair. It is very wiry When I told my mum she says it's better to shave and once you get used to it you can do it when you shower and it only takes a couple of minutes.. I have never seen my mum naked so I didn't know she shaved. I'm very worried about what someone else would say if they knew. Is it a good idea and do other girls do this?

The choice is yours but if you don't feel ready to do this just yet, why not consider simply trimming it back.

  • are my periods too heavy? i need to change my towles every hour sometimes even more frequently than that. am i normal?

As your period is so heavy, ask your mum or guardian if they think you should visit your GP.  If you are feeling more tired than normal and generally lack energy, this is something you should consider doing.

  • Hi vicki

How long after a breast bud comes does the other one come? Cause I had a lump under my right nipple since July/august and the left nipple still doesn't.

You should begin to notice some development in your other breast very soon but try not to worry as it is very common to notice more development in one breast than the other.

  • Hi vicki,
I just cut my hair to shoulder length from waist length, I don't know if I like it. I have wanted to grow my hair out long for forever, but I cut it noe and it doesn't look very nice. It looks ugly if I leave it just out, and it's too short to do a ponytail. Please help!
    xx

Try not to worry as your hair will grow back before you know it.  Why not have a look for some ideas on hairstyles for shoulder-length hair.  Having it at this length, should make it easier to manage and I bet it looks lovely.

  • Could I have some free samples I have sent you an email please reply soon luv olivia xxx

Hi Olivia, I would be more than happy to send you some free samples and would ask that you pop onto the home page of this website, click on the Contact tab and fill in your details.

  • I have been on my period heavy for two days and now I have stopped is this a warning or have I actually started x

This is your period so congratulations.

  • Vicki , I'm 13 and have had my period for a while , but I always still get white discharge why do I still get this And when will it stop , please answer Asap xx

It is normal to release discharge throughout your menstrual cycle and up until your 20's so try not to worry as it works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection.

  • Hey Vicki
This happened a while ago but it's been bugging me
On my report card in June I had one c and I felt mad/sad and I showed my mom and she told me that it was okay (this was the first time ) and I shouldn't be ashamed then she blabbed on the phone to her friend she told her daughter who's my friend (but has a really big mouth long story) and on the bus she was like so you got a c on your report card and I was like how do you know and she said oh my mom told me what do Ido?

Try not to worry about it as it will soon be forgotten.  I think you should tell your mum that her friend isn't very discreet as she told her daughter something that you would have preferred remained between you.

  • Hi Vicki
Ok this is really important and I need to know soon before I make this decision.(and possibly make a bad one)well I'm in seventh grade and recently fell in love with this boy we have been dating for about a month and a half now.I go over to his house a lot and I love when he touches me.We haven't really gone that far yet. I havent gone over to his house because I won't be able to control myself from him.We just recently turned 13.He is ready for me ,I'm ready for him,but is this right?

The Law of Consent states that it is illegal for a boy or man to have any kind of sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16.

  • Hi, I have a cleft lip and palet, I'm a nerd/jock, and I'm the only girl in my class who hasn't been asked out by a boy. All of the boys treat me nicely. I'm a good girl haven't even said one curse word in my life. I'm getting to the point where I'm dying to have one. I like this boy in the grade ahead of me, but nobody knows. Everybody likes him so I won't have a chance. Help me please. Thanks. Sorry for all of typing all of this.

Puberty is a time when teens can easily form a deep attraction to others due to the increase in activity of sex hormones.  It is also a time when teens lack confidence due to all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once so try to consider ways of giving your confidence a boost - joining a club for something you enjoy would be a good place to start.  Remember that you can't expect others to like you when you don't even like yourself.  Please check out my blog on Your First Love for help with this boy you like.

  • I'm the only one in my class who hasn't tried masturbastion. What is it and how do you do it? Thanks.

Masturbation is something that is felt naturally and instinctively and is definitely not something I can tell you how to do.

  • I have had discharge for almost two years and have not had cramps or any other signs of my period. I have medium sized breasts.i have not talked to my mom about this bc it makes me uncomfortable a bit. Can u help me figure out why I have had discharge for almost 2 years but have not started yet

As you've been releasing discharge for so long, I can only guess that your period isn't too far away.  As for talking to your mum, try to remember that she was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable.

  • Hiya Viki
    - What is a tumour/ brain tumour?
    Thnx u,
    Charlie (I am a girl! X) Xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Charlie, a brain tumour is a growth of cells that multiply in an abnormal way.  They can be benign or malignant and can be removed with surgery and other treatments.

  • I have a really close friend that I really like (I have done for about 8 months now) and I told him I liked him a few months ago. He said he didn't like me back, but I overheard the other week that he 'used to like me'? He's friends with lots of girls. Also we went to a party and I got told getting together with me would be good, but he didn't talk to me the whole night and then I think he got with another girl. Why is he acting like this? I feel played but can't help liking him and dont want to lose him :(

From what you've said about this boy, I think you should move on and forget about him.

  • HELPPP my vagina hole has got bigger and I don't know what this means im really scared plz get back to me plzzzβ™₯β™‘β™₯

The vagina is a muscle which can expand wide enough to allow a baby to pass through when it is being born.  For more help with this, check out my blog on The Reproductive System - the outside story.

  • hi, a few months ago i had really sore boobs and when i felt them they felt like there was stones in them. I still getting pains now and the stones have gotten bigger and harder and ive found a few lumps and i get nipple discharge.

is this normal? do i tell my mum?

plz could you answer this in boobs and bras because im worried

The small raised lumps that sit behind the nipple are called breasts buds. They comprise of milk glands, tissue, fat and muscle and signal the start of breast development.

  • Hi vicki,
It's just.. I am really confused about all this puberty stuff and i just dont know what to expect and when i get my perio, how to tell my mum or when i want a bra, how to tell her. I am just getting really stressed and i dont know what to do. BTW, i have pubic hair, a little breast developememt (not much) and discharge. Please help me!
    Thank you
    -Nadia

Try not to worry and remember that periods are a perfectly natural occurrence for every girl so there really is no need for you to feel confused or anxious about them.  As for talking to your mum about your concerns, please remember that she was a young girl going through puberty once so you should really try and talk to her.  If you would like to request a free sample of our teens range from the home page of this website, you will find a 'Becoming a teen' booklet in with it which is filled with loads of useful information about puberty.  You can also come back to me and ask me anything you are worried about.

  • Hi, Vicki
1,About a year ago I started to develope breast buds and discharge, and about 6 months ago I it pubic hair recently I have had an increase in discharge and m breast are developing breast tissue, also u keep getting pain in my right side of my lower belly do you think I may start my period soon.
2.is there any where I could get some free samples
    Thanks rainbomustachexox

As you've already been releasing discharge for 6 months, I guess that your period isn't too far away.  As for your free sample, if you pop onto the home page of this website, click on the Contact tab at the bottom of the page and complete your details.

  • Dear Vicki
Is it normal for me to really like boys, like basically I'm attracted to LOTS of male celebrities and there's this boy Im really attracted to the way he looks but I'd no way ever go out with him and I'm just really confused about myself at the moment. I'd love your feedback, Mollie xoxox

Hi Mollie, it is perfectly normal to feel attracted to boys during puberty as hormones are running riot.  This is often called a crush but the sad thing is that they often fade in time.

  • Hi vicki, I'm 13 and have had my period for a while now. I have noticed that every time I am on my period I feel really sick and get massive nosebleeds. Why am I getting nosebleeds? Is this normal? What shall I do, thanks

Ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP for peace of mind.

  • On social media everyones making fun of skinny girls and calling them names i cant say, i get called anorexic at school glar chested and im 14. If i say i want to be bigger everyone just has a go at me. I hate being flat chested but if i gain wieght will my boobs grow? But i have that metabolism thing where u cant get fat so im doomed to be flat chested all my life

Try to remember that we all develop at different times to each other and the comments of immature people should be ignored.  You should also consider that we are all made in different shapes and sizes and this is what makes us who we are.  It is possible to notice breast development up until your 20's so you still have plenty of time.

  • Hi Vicki, this is kind of embrassing, but I'll try to type it as normal as possible.
I was shaving down there and I've got these very uncomfortable, irritating spots and red lines. Like the lining of underwear, and where my underwear are. It's like the lining is rubbing against it and is creating agony for me, any advice? Should I shave in future or just trim it? Lol

The choice is yours but if you do decide to shave again, try to shave in the direction of the hair growth and be sure to use a clean razor.  As you're experiencing a lot of discomfort from shaving at the moment, why not consider letting the hair grow out and simply trim it for a while until it feels better.

  • Hi,
The other day I pressed the contact icon on this website and filled out the form, because I was told I would recieve some free Lil- Lets samples. Is that right?

Yes this is correct.  It will take a short while to get the sample to you.

  • What does it mean when other people are asking you to add someone to the list?? Just curious, thanks! :)

This expression could mean different things, so if you really want to know, why not ask the person who said it to you.

  • Hi. I am almost 15 and I don't think I look/act this old. It bothers me especially with my birthday so soon because in just over 12 months I will be 16! My parents let me go out with friends etc. but I still feel like they don't realise how old I am despite the fact that they trust me. I don't wear make up or have boyfriends like most my age. Have you got any advice on how to feel more grown up?

Try not to put yourself under too much pressure as I'm sure you will naturally begin to feel more grown-up in time.

  • I'm growing out of my friends and I dont know what to do? I just dont feel like it's fun when I hang out with them and I don't want to just stop talking to them because that's kind of what's happened already?

It is possible for us to outgrow our friendships sometimes but it doesn't mean that you have to stop talking to them completely.  It doesn't hurt to be friendly and say "Hi" when you see them.

  • Hi Vicki,
I literally just started my period and I am really embarrassed! Will I always feel like this?
    Rose x

Hi Rose, try to remember that periods are a perfectly natural occurrence for every girl so there really is no need for you to be embarrassed by them.  Allow yourself a little time to get used to them and you will soon be able to manage them without even thinking about them.

  • Hi vicky I have sent you an email recognise (livyloo999@gmail.com) I was wondering about some free samples I have tried one of your teen pads from my friend I loved it but just wanted to see what I really liked first anyway please email me or reply here btw love your website luv luv xxx

Hi Livvy, please go to the Contact tab on the home page of this website and follow the instructions.

  • How to tell my bestfriend that I feel like our friendship is fading since she got a boyfriend we barely hang out k have other friends but they are all friends with my bestfriends boyfriend so I can't really talk to annoying about this pls help asap

I understand that you're probably feeling a little excluded as your friends all seem to be attached but try not to worry as during puberty, boys and girls fall in and out of 'love' pretty easily.

  • Hey vicki
I have been getting light brownish discharge recently! I have had discharge before is this my pireod? X
    Love lils

Hi Lils, brown discharge can present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • How do I get free samples??? I really would love to try them!! Xx

You can request a free sample by completing the Contact tab on the home page of this website.

  • So I've been getting this White/yellow (sometimes White/green) sticky stuff coming out of done below for about a year or so now... Is this discharge??? If so, does this mean I will probably get my period fairly soon as I have experienced this discharge for a while now. Fyi I am 12 (very nearly 13) and I am fully developed xx a thankyou!! ~ Izzie

Hi Izzie, this is discharge which is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives.  As you've been releasing discharge for a year, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • I've been getting this clear thick, slightly yellow (sometimes green) sticky stuff coming out of down below for about 1 year now.....'is this discharge??? If so Does this mean my period will start soon as I have had it for a while? I'm 12 very nearly 13 and am fully developed xxx thankyou!!!!

I guess that your period isn't too far away now.

  • Hi Vicki!
There's a boy in my year and he's got a Youtube account (Laurence Judd). Anyway, recently I've thought to myself "He's kinda cute." but I'm not sure if it's "just a friend" cuteness or "I fancy him" cuteness. Do you have any advice?
    Mimi.
PS: Be sure to watch one of Laurence's videos for me. Thanks :)

It is normal for girls to form a deep attraction to someone during puberty as sex hormones run riot.  This is called a crush but the sad thing is that they often fade in time.

  • Hi Vicki!
At school I heard Anne (not her real name) say to her friend that if you ever felt like you are ugly you should compare yourself to Jane (not her real name) and Anne and her friend laughed.
I don't know if I should tell Jane what Anne said, tell Anne that I overheard what she said and she shouldn't be making such horrible remarks or just do nothing about it. What should I do?
    Hanna x

Hi Hanna, how cruel of your friend to say this but I think it's best for you to keep it to yourself as nothing can be gained by telling Jane this and upsetting her.

  • Hey vicki, so ive been having discarge for a few weeks now and ive been using panyliners but whenever i use them nothing seems to be on them. But if i dont wear them it leaks in my undies. Does the discrage get absorbed in the panyliner? Sorry i know its really awkward... Thanks anywayπŸ˜„ xxxx

Pant liners work to protect your underwear not only from the effects of discharge but also from possible leakage should your period arrive.

  • Hi Vicki,
What is a mesh bra? Is it safe to wear? Could you tell me the pros and cons of one?
    Thnx!!
    Chocoholic🍫

Hi Chocoholic, sheer mesh bras can be quite revealing but they are light and unstructured.

  • I think I'm anorexic! I haven't been eating much lately and I feel like I'm really fat! I weigh 6 stone and I'm 12 years old. I sent my friends a text saying am I fat and she said no but then she told my other friends and one of them said "if you're going to call yourself fat then we can say it to" She said I was fat and that one of the boys siad I was fat! I'm really upset and now she's saying I'm too skinny! What do I do? Am I fat or not

You certainly don't sound as if you're overweight at all and as puberty can be a most demanding and difficult time in a person's life due to all the psychological and emotional changes that are occurring, it is easy to understand why they can develop a poor self-image and an irrational fear of gaining weight.  Please be sensible and try to eat three healthy, balanced meals every day and you will be fine.  Talk to your mum about how you're feeling and ask if she thinks you would benefit from a trip to your GP for peace of mind.

  • I really want to meet zoella any tips how I can interact with her not by email or letter thanx xx

I don't know if there are any competitions at present, that would give you the chance of meeting her.

  • hi vicki its inji (the girl whos mom bought her a 30a and 30aa bra) you told me to wear the 30a bra but today while showering i notice a really angry looking red mark under one boob and an itchy bleeding rash under the other. does this mean the bras are too tight? also, ill give you my measurements again, 88cm under bust, 94 cm on bust can you tell me my bra size please?
    thanks, INJI XXX

Hi Inji, your bra size is a 40AA but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.  The red mark is a sign that the bra you've been wearing is too small.

  • Hia Vicki
    Part 1/2
I'm sorry if this is really stupid, but I just feel alone and that my family don't support me sometimes. This is silly because they are all really loving (minus one aunt that is), I just feel as though I am letting them down - and I'm not sure what for.

    Xxx πŸ˜₯😿😟😰

    Response in Part 2.

  • Hi. I had anorexia a while back and since then, I haven't had a period in 18 months. When I did get them I only really got 2 and they were a very light flow and very irregular. I'm 14 now, and my GP says that I should definitely be getting my period at this point because I'm at a good weight. So why haven't I gotten it yet?

Just try to be patient as your GP has said that your period will be arriving soon so try not to worry.

  • Hi Vicki!!, I'm 13 but I look way older and am more mature than my age and I've been wanting to get a job for ages even if it is volunteer work. Anyway I went into this hairdressers the other day looking for any part time receptionist work and the woman was all like you have to be 18and sort of laughed at me. I now feel really embarrassed to go into anywhere and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to feel more confident in doing stuff like this. Thank you XXX

Full marks to you for having the confidence to try and get some work in your local hairdressers and I can only say how sorry I am that the woman you spoke to was so rude as to laugh at you.  Please don't be put off by her and try asking your local Careers Advisor or have a look in your local library to find places that you might be able to do some voluntary work.  Please don't feel embarrassed as you will always come across rude people in life.  Good luck.

  • hi vicki i have had discharge and i am 11 i have also got symptoms for a period when will i get my first period?

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hi can you please tell me my bra size
    Under bust: 27"
    Bust:32"
    Thank you xx
    Love the website too

Your bra size is 32AA but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.

  • i have got all the symptoms for my period but it is not com in g and i am 11

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • I am going on a school trip abroad in a few days and we are there for 4-5 days. I havnt yet started my period but I think it would be a good idea to take some sanitary towels in case it does happen. How many would I need roughly? Xxx E

It is always a good idea to be prepared so why not take a pack of Lil-Lets teens Day and Night towels away with you and see how you get on.  Have a great time.

  • hi Vicki, I got this brown reddish old blood in my pants! I wiped my down-below and there was blood on the tissue have I started my periods?

This is your period so congratulations.

  • hi
i just recently been through a break up with a guy i reallly like and i even cried about it. he said we never talk and would be better off as friends but i dont want to b just friends. ive never felt this way about a guy before what do i do.
    chesny x

Hi Chesny, it is normal for teens to form a deep affection for someone during puberty.  As hard as it seems at the moment, you have to respect that this boy is being honest and mature in telling you how he truly feels.  Try keeping yourself busy with friends and family and you will find that you will soon be able to forget about him.

  • Hi Vicki,
I have a discharge every day and it has been happening for at least a year. I have stomach cramps monthly but I haven't started my period yet. What does it mean???????
    From worried

Hi Worried, as you've been releasing discharge for about a year, I guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • Hi so I think have panic disorder and I told I want to see a doctor and she said no. I want help :(

Feeling anxious and panicky is quite common during puberty as this can be a most difficult and demanding time in a young person's life.  Try some relaxation techniques like taking deep breaths and you might like to consider taking up Yoga or Pilates as a way of controlling your stress.  Please also talk to your mum and friends about this as talking always helps.

  • Hi vicki, I'm 14 years old and I havnt started my period and I am quite late in everything. All my friends wear bras and I wear crop tops and I have for two years now. I don't know if I'm ready for my bra and I want to ask my mum to take me to buy one but I don't know what size I am it if I even fit one yet and I'm embarrassed to ask my mum. I am 66cm underbust and 71cm on the fullest part. Am I ready for a bra?
    Beth xxx

Hi Beth, your bra size is a 30A but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes until you find one that feels comfortable on you.  Try to remember that we all develop at different rates to each other and the best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when yuou've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hey vicki,
Um i have had discharge for about 3-4 months maybe longer! But recently i have been getting light brown stuff come onto my tissue when i wipe my (v)! What is it? Cus it sometimes comes on evern when i dont like have a poo? Is it my period? Xx
    Thanks lils (please reply) xxx

Hi Lils, brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Dear Vicky,
So I have been having discharge for about a year and a half, and I have had breast buds since I was like 8/9 and now im 13! Theres no sign of my boobs growing and its really annoying, also what are the other sign to look out for apart from discharge?
    Thanks- Darcy xxx

Hi Darcy, as you have been releasing discharge for about a year, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • Hey Vicki,
I started my periods last September, and I've only told my mum and my bestest friend. My mum's going out of the country pretty soon, and it's when my period is due. I haven't told my dad yet and I just don't know why, but I'm scared that I'll get my period then, and I'll have to tell my dad. I really wanna tell him so that he knows just in case something happens, but I don't know how to. Can you help me? Thank you soon much!
    Candyfloss768

As you feel a little unsure, why not ask your mum to mention this to your dad.  As long as you're prepared and have plenty of pads in ready for your period, you will have no need to worry.

  • hi there i have pe and i am on my period and unforchanatly i have trampolining but my flow is very heavy and i dont wan to get humiliated as i am often bullied what should i do just HELP me please i am so stressed out

Try not to worry and remember that you're not alone in experiencing heavy periods.  You might like to try using Lil-Lets teens Super tampons which are ideal for first-time use having been designed for the smaller bodies of young girls.  All it takes is a little practice and you will soon be able to enjoy the discreet protection that wearing tampons provides to millions of women and girls all over the world.  For extra protection, you might like to also wear a pad before you start trampolining.  Being prepared and well protected is the key to success.

  • Hi, I'm 13 and I was wondering if I might have stopped growing because I've been 5ft for 3 years now and my mum is 5ft 1 and my sister is 5ft 2.

Girls can continue to develop until the age of 15 so you still have some time.  However, try to remember that we are all made in different shapes and sizes and this is what makes us who we are.

  • i normally get like yellowy whitey clear discharge and ive had this for atleast 4 maybe 3 months but just recently i have been getting like ,light brown discharge im not sure what this is weather its like my period or something else?
    From lils x

Hi Lils, brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • My cat dies about 2 weeks ago and I feel sick I'm always crying about her and I dunno what to do. We buried her in the garden and I miss her so much. I have dreams about her and struggle sleeping at night. I'm 12 and iv had her ever since I was 1 years old. Please reply as soon as possible x

The loss of a much-loved pet is often our first experience of grief and as difficult as it might seem at first, you should find that by talking to your family members about your cat, you will begin to feel better.  Sharing memories together, will help you cope with your sense of loss.  You might also like to consider talking to Childline as they might be able to offer some grief counselling too.  Try to take comfort in the fact that she had a good life as a part of your family and just think of the wonderful memories you will always have of her.  Hope you feel better soon.

  • Vicki,
I am 11 years old and I have not gotten my period yet. for a few days now I have been getting extremely light brown discharge in my knickers. I have also been getting cramps around my lower waist and random waves of anger for no reason at all.Is this my first period? PLEASE HELP!
    sincerely,
    confused :/

You have described many of the signs of puberty and brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Hi Vicki. What is an orgasm? Sorry if this is inappropriate but i'm just curious :)

An orgasm describes the peak in sexual pleasure.  It is a tingling sensation or an explosion inside the body and a tingling around the genital area.

  • Hi Vicky, is it okay to drink at a house party (14 -15year olds)? Xxx

It is illegal to consume alcohol if you are under 18.

  • Hi Vicki. What is an orgasm?

An orgasm describes the peak in sexual pleasure.  It can be described as a tingling sensation or an explosion inside the body with a tightening around the genital area.

  • Hi. I'm 14 and I'v been with my boyfriend who lives 30 mins away from me for nearly 3 months. He's been really normal with me, but over the last 2 weeks he's become really distant, really short with me, and it's like he's lost all interest in me. I tried talking about it once to him, but he just told me he was fine and blew the situation off. What should I do? I want to message him but I don't want to become pushy. ThanksπŸ™Š x

During puberty, it is normal for teens to fall in and out of relationships quite easily and as your boyfriend is being quite detached from you, I would be direct in asking if he still wants to be with you or not.  This isn't being pushy at all, you just need to know where you stand.

  • what is the age you start periods and puberty

Girls can start their period as young as the age of 8 and puberty can begin at this age too.

  • Hi Vicki!
    My underbust is: 65cm
    My bust is: 77cm
    What bra size am I?
    Jelly xxxx

Hi Jelly, your bra size is a 30A but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.

  • I want to have sex with my bf I don't know where to do it though

I will take this opportunity to remind you of the Law of Consent which states that it is illegal for a boy or man to have any kind of sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16.  So if you are over 16, and are absolutely certain that this is something you're ready for, discuss where would be a suitable place with your boyfriend.

  • discharge between my periods is getting annoying,Seomtimes it's on my chair wen i stand up and all and i dont want someone to see it, the panty liners i have dont help. What do i do?

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection.  You might find that by changing your pant liners and using Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up Wipes, you will begin to feel fresher down there.

  • I had my period at the end of the month but now (2 weeks later) it's showing signs again - is this normal?

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi Vicki,
Do Lil-Lets send out free samples, and if so how can I request them?

Yes we do send out free samples of our teens range.  All you have to do is to complete the Contact tab from the home page of this website.

  • dear Vicki
I have heavy discharge and my friends are worried about me because it is that much
I wear liners and think I have pms should I go to a doctor

Heavy discharge is quite common so try not to worry.  Discharge is a clear mucus produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  You might like to try changing your pant liners more frequently and consider using Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up Wipes as they will keep you feeling fresh and clean down there.

  • Hi vicki, i love your blog and this website. Im 13 years old, 14 in december and i have been getting discharge for 11 months now. My mum and both my older sisters started at 14. How many months roughy or how long will it be till i start my period?
    Thanks T.R.C x

Hi T.R.C., thank you for your words of support.  As you've been releasing discharge for quite a while, I can only guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • Hi viki
I just wanted to ask if my period is regular or irregular because i am getting it each 21 days will it stay like this till i get bigger
BTW i got my period in july 2014
    Please answer ASAP

A menstrual cycle can last between 21-34 days so try not to worry.  However, in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the change in your body and to then reach a balance for a regular period.

  • Hi
I'm 12 and I have had discharge for a long time now
My mum says that I should of got my period
By now as I have had discharge for over a year
What should I do and should I be concerned

Please try not to worry as because you have been releasing discharge for over a year, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • Can you interview emma Watson in 2015 as she is super !!!
    Thanks
    Xxxxxxx🌟🌟🌟

I agree, Emma Watson is super.  I will pass your suggestion on to the team.

  • Hi vicki,
I have a crush on a boy, and my friend laugh and make fun of me for it. It so annoying! They also invented a ship name for us ( where you combine the two names to form one new one) and in lessons, this boy on the other side of the table is always saying stuff about him ( but not being serious) to try and get me to stick up for him ( I stick up for everyone) and then he says " yeah cuz you fancy him!" Do you have any advice on it?? Thanks
    Missarty
    Ps: you are so helpful!

I think you should really try to ignore this immature behaviour.  Once they realise, you're not bothered about what they say, they should stop.

  • What is discharge?

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and also tells us that our bodies are getting ready for when our period arrives.

  • Hello Vicki,
I'm just over 13 and a half and have already started my periods
A couple of days ago I saw I had some patches of blood in my knickers, so I assumed it was my period. So, like normal, I get the pads and put them in. But on the next day, there's hardly any blood there. The day after, it's the same. But the day after that, there's no blood at all. I'm not sure why this is. I'm not sure if it's my period or not because I've forgotten to count, I'm also not sure if I should tell my parents either.

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.  Talk to your mum about this as she will be able to support you.

  • what is anemia?

Anaemia is when there is a deficiency of red blood cells which results in general fatigue.

  • Hi vicki my question is how can i tell my mum i need pantliners now thank you

Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there is really no need for you to feel embarrassed talking to her about needing pant liners.  Pant liners will not only protect you from the effects of discharge but also from possible leakage should your period arrive.

  • hi Vicki
lately I've been noticing a small amount of pale yellow stuff in my underwear, I think it might be discharge as it doesn't smell like urine. I've heard discharge can get dried up during the day so can you give your opinion on what it might be? xx
another thing, most of my friends are now wearing bras, I have tried on a bra (12aa) and it fits. my mum bought me a crop top but with more support. I think I am ready for a real bra so how can I ask her?
    Zoe xx

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works by keeping our vaginas clean and free of infection.  It is normal for it to appear yellow when it dries out.  As for wanting to wear a bra, try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed talking to her.  For more help with this, check out my blog on Talking to Mum & Dad.

  • My friends are being really mean. My best friend started hanging out with a girl who doesn't like me, and she told her best friend( which is also my friend) that they made a Holly's ex-best friend club behind my back. I'm not supposed to know but I feel like blurting it out at them because I have done nothing wrong from holly
P.s she has this way of making people do things her way and make people feel sad with out actually bullying .
Is this bullying and what should I do

This is bullying and you should talk to a teacher or mentor at school.  For more help with this, check out my blog on Bullying.

I really need your help! Basically I've been talking to this boy (in the year below) and I really like him and we have both said ly to one another but I don't know what to do about him because I don't want to be that girl who has the reputation of dating or talking to someone in the year below helpp pleasee?

Why not continue to get to know this boy better as a friend before deciding if you want to be his girlfriend.  It shouldn't really matter that he is a year younger than you so try not to worry.

Threadworms are small white string-like parasites that live in the intestines.  They are usually found around the anal passage and must be treated by your GP or with over-the-counter medication.  Please talk to your mum about this - it's very common.

  • Hey Vicki
This isn't really a question more advice to girls who read this :)
When I got my first period my mum got me lil-lets teen pads and I still use them now as they are great! I highly recommend you should get them if you start or if your looking for some pads!!

    Thank you for the support.

  • Hia, I am really underweight and skinny and flat chested, I have loads of spots and moderate amounts of hair in the pubic area and my boobs have started to grow, I get discharge but I havnt started my period and I am 14, 15 in July and Im scared there's something wrong. My dad had to have hormone injections but my mum was an early bloomer I want to ask my mum wether I would need hormone help but we aren't that close and i feel really lost about what to do, when will my periods start?

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.  Girls can also be aged between 8-18 before their period arrives.

  • Hi vicki πŸ‰
I'm lesbian, like really lesbian. All I can ever think about is girls and sexual interactions with girls! I do fancy a girl. I don't think ill ever get a girlfriend because I don't know any other lesbian people! Also I'm sick of pretending to be heterosexual what do I do?
    Thankyou🌸
    Fruitcake

You have to remain true to yourself and if you're sure that you are a lesbian then accept it and simply be you but remember that puberty is naturally a time when teens can sometimes feel confused about their sexuality due to the increase in activity of sex hormones so try not to put yourself under too much pressure and see how you feel in the future.

  • On Friday my period came on very heavy. At school I started to feel: dizzy, tired, very hot, sweaty hands, sick & like my eyes were closing. I felt like I could of fainted, this happened to me a few months ago when I was on my period and fainted. I was like this for about an hour, it was so bad I went home. So i researched IT keeps telling me about anaemia & iron problem (I don't eat that healthy and I'm not sure if I have enough food with iron ). Do you think I have anaemia do I have to go to the doctor?

For peace of mind, ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP.

  • I am 14 rears old and I havnt started my periods yet, I get bullied at school because I am such a late bloomer and I am very small and skinny. I really want to start my periods but I don't know when they will start. My boobs have started to develop and I sometimes get discharge, this had been going on for around two years now, why havnt my periods started? My mum started when she was 13?

Try not to worry as it is normal for girls to start their period any time between the ages of 8-18 and we don't always follow our mums.  As you've already been releasing discharge for quite a while, I can only guess that your period isn't too far away.  Please try and ignore any immature comments as periods are a natural occurrence for every girl.

  • hi vicki, erm when someone masturbates is it okay to push something into your vagina? i was just a bit curious. thanks

    p.s. sorry if it's innapropiate

Masturbation is a natural, instinctive thing and is definitely not something I can tell you how to do.

  • I suddenly just started crying because I didn't wan to go and watch my sister's mat h what shall I do .. I can't stop crying thanks tai.xxx

Puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time for young girls and boys as they struggle to come to terms with all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once, it's no wonder they get upset easily.  Try doing things that make you happy like dancing to your favourite music, watching a funny film and most importantly of all, talk about your feelings to your friends and family as this will provide you with the support you need.

  • Hi what's my bra size 27 inches under
    32 on the bust?
    Ps love the website xx
    πŸ‘―πŸ‘―πŸ‘―

Your bra size is a 32AA but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.  Thank you for the support.

  • Me and my boyfriend want sex real badly. We're thirteen..are we allowed?sorry if it's inappropriate....

The Law of Consent states that it is illegal for a boy or man to have any kind of sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16.

  • This is really gross, but why does my period have a fishy oder? Even when it is fresh blood it still has a strong smell? πŸ‘Ž why is this? πŸ™†πŸ™†πŸ™†πŸ™†πŸ™†πŸ™†πŸ™†

It is normal for menstrual blood to have an odour and you might want to consider trying Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up Wipes which will keep you feeling fresh and clean down there.

  • Sorry if it's inappropriate but my boyfriend and I are both 17 and he asked if we could have sex, and I said no, I said I didn't really want to take things that far, so anyway a month later he asked again and I said yes again as I didn't want to break up:( So we met up at my boyfriends house and had sex, it felt really weird but good at the same time and I think I'm pregnant and I don't want to be:(what can I do?

If you have had unprotected sex there is a possibility that you might be pregnant so please contact your GP or local Brook Advisory Clinic as a matter of urgency.

  • Help! I have been getting VERY light brown discharge and cramps around my lower waist. what does this mean? am I on my first period?
    PLEASE ANSWER ASAP,
    confused

Brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Hi Vicki, sorry if this is inappropriate, 2 days ago my boyfriend asked me if we could have sex and that he loves me and wants sex badly... And I said no because we are to young at 14 so now he isn't talking to me!what shall I do?should I have sex?i don't want to break up with him :(

If this boy truly cared for and respected you, he would wait until you are ready and not want to break the law.  Unless he is willing to do these things, move on and forget about him.

  • hi
i just recently been through a break up with a guy i reallly like and i even cried about he said we never talk and would be better off as friends but i dont want to b just friends. ive never felt this way about a guy before what do i do. chesny x

Hi Chesny, due to the increase in activity of hormones, it is quite common for teens to form a deep attraction to someone during puberty and this is called a crush.  The thing is that although it is difficult at the moment, you will begin to think differently about this boy in time.  Just try keeping busy by doing things with your friends and family.

  • Heye Vicki.for the past few days I've had a spit growing on the left side of my nose. It's gone white/yellow now..and it hurts alot. Do you think I should pop it?

As your spot is in a sensitive place, you need to take special care and not pop it if you can help it.  As long as you keep it clean, you should find that it will disappear on it's own.

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months and once it arrives, count on from the first day of your first period top the first day of your next to get an idea of how long your menstrual cycle will be.

  • Dear Vicki,
I am 11 years old and I have never had my period. the other day I found VERY light brown discharge in my knickers. I have had the brown discharge for about 5 days now with painful cramps a little below my waist. WAS THAT MY FIRST PERIOD?!?!
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    sincerely,
    confused

Brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum of guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • Dear Vicki,
I am 11 years old and I have never had my period. The other day I looked in my knickers and there was VERY light brown discharge there! I have had clear discharge for around 4-6 months but it has never been brown. I have been getting brown/yellow discharge on and off for about 4 or 5 days now and I have really uncomfortable cramps too. I now wear liners but WAS THAT MY PERIOD?!?! PLEASE HELP!!!!
    sincerely,
    confused

This brown fluid is most likely your period and not discharge and as you have noticed this fluid before it really is time to share this news with your mum or the person who cares for you.

  • Hi vicki!
In January of this year I got a little few drops of blood in my undies, the same amount in February. I skipped March and had a few drops in April, skipped May and had a little bit more than usual in June. I haven't had it since June and it's now november! All I get is those few drops, I don't even wear a pad just a panty liner.. Is this my period or not??? I've been having discharge for about 2 years now and am developed. Please help

    Thanks
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, yes this is still your period and it is very common for the amount of blood lost to be very light and wearing a pant liner to catch these small drops of blood is perfectly fine.

  • Hi
I was wondering if you could send me some free samples of lil-lets period things please this is my email (mya79423@gmail.com) and if you email me I will give u my address if u email. I have just started my period and heard so many good things about lil-lets and want to try some things for teens
Thank you from Mya (11 years old)

Hi Mya, I see you have dropped me an e-mail and once I have confirmation of your age and parent's permission I will be happy to send you out a sample.

  • Hiya,
It's Billie and so the other day in my panties there was this brown stuff that looked like dried blood. But the day before I got the same thing. Is that my period? P.s love this site!!!!!!!! Xox

This does sound very much like your first period, so please share this news with your mum or the person who cares for you.

  • Hi Vicki,
So there's this boy a year above me and I really like him... The problem is I'm not sure wether he is a play (he has been out with 3 of my friends - 2 of them my age - what should I do? X
    Thanks
    β€πŸ’―

Keep him as a friend for now and wait until you are 100% sure he is being sincere and follow your instinct.

  • Vicki you have helped me so mush but i do have one question,
is there any way of telling that you are gonna start your period?
    brittish Elephant. XXX

Hi, some girls notice breast development, pubic and under arm hair or even discharge a year or so before the arrival of their period, but just as many get their period with no signs experienced at all. So keep some pads and liners with you from now on, so you are always prepared.

  • hi viki just a quick question, is there any telltale signs that your period will start soon?
    thanks
    EnglishPandaxxx

Hi, some girls notice pubic hair, breast development and discharge a year or so before the arrival of their period. And for some no signs are noticed at all, so my advice would be to keep some pads and liners with you from now on.

  • Hi Vicki!
Ok, I got bullied recently, and it only stopped on Friday. I've been struggling to eat food through out last week, as I wasn't eating lunch. Now when I eat food, I feel mega sick, and I panic. However, I quickly try to forget the feeling. I think its because of the bullying. I'm scared I'll turn anorexic.Today I ate all my dinner though, and a sausage sand witch for lunch. Is it because I've been so sick from the bullying? Please tell me I'll get better. My mum and dad don't know.

When we feel emotional it can affect our appetite and I am glad to hear you have now started to eat again. If this happens again, try to eat small light meals until you feel better and speak to someone about this bullying in an effort to ensure it never happens again.

  • I've got a great life and I've got nothing to be sad about but recently I've just been feeling so broken for no reason. I cry myself to sleep and I didn't want to but I cut myself and have done for 4 nights now. There are so many people that have had awful lives and been bullied and things like that and I just feel awful for feeling this way. I don't know what to do.

Puberty can leave even the most happiest of people feeling low and not understanding why this is the case. Please take the opportunity to speak to your parents and teachers about the way you are feeling and take the time to read my blogs and our section under the Puberty tab about emotions and feelings. All of these will let you know you are not alone and help is there if you ask for it.

  • Hi Vicky, how can I get invited to house parties I'm in year 10 and they look good so how can I enjoy them myself too as in going to one xx

House parties are fun, as long as you are careful and look after yourself when there you should have a fabulous time.

  • Hey Viki,
I am 13 years old and I get really bad anxiety, and I don't have much confidence in myself. When I do tests or talk to a boy I fancy or any boy I get really nervous and I sometimes I can't control my anxiety and even though my best friend is trying to help me it's not working and I want to overcome it. Please help xx

Why not read my blogs entitled Walk Tall and Fitting In, these may be of use to you.

  • What is first second and third base please
Plus does when you have your period does it hurt thank you xx

Your period should not hurt, although for some people a few tummy cramps may be noticed, but gentle exercise should ease any discomfort you may notice. As for 'bases', these are terms used to describe the different types of intimacy couples share with each other.

  • I'm 11 and and got signs if getting my period discharge, pubic hair, boobs but I got no cramps is this normal?

Not everyone experiences period cramps so please don't worry about this.

  • Dear vicki , there's this boy that I like and I think I might have sex with him sometime this year cause we might start dating (I'm a virgin)but I havent started my period does this matter ? Is there anyway of telling when my period will come thx sorry if this is inappropriate xx

Sex isn't something you have to do, just because you date someone, so rather than worrying about this, consider getting to know this boy as a friend and keep it that way until you are 100% sure that you and he are close enough to be intimate.

  • How do I hid my period when i'm at school?

No one can tell just by looking at someone whether they are menstruating or not, so if you prefer to keep this news to yourself then this is your choice to make.

  • Please please answer!!! Im 12 years old and i have a sort of a crush on a traveller...and i think he likes me back im not sure..but hes a traveller/gypsie and i dont know what to think, hes nice and funny but i dont know!!! Is this right??

We cannot help who we are attracted to and whilst there is nothing wrong with your crush, if he travels around the country any relationship may be difficult to manage.

  • My best friend is anorexic and depressed and suicidal. She is constantly talking about death and it's scaring me...what should I do?We're 13 btw.

This is a matter for adults to manage and my advice would be to urge your friend to speak to her parents, teachers or another trusted adult who will be able to offer her the support she needs.

  • Hello Vicki I just wanted to say that this website is absolutely brilliant, and it has helped me loads. You have answered all of my questions and I just want to say thankyou, because it has helped me so much!! From Isabella x

Hi Isabella, thank you very much for the feedback.

  • Hi, I'm really worried about the future, does it hurt when you first have sex? I understand that you have to be 16. Thankyou

If the couple care for each other, take their time, there should be no pain at all when first having sex. It is important to note also that just because you are 16 it does not mean you are ready for being sexually intimate so please don't rush into anything you are not comfortable to do.

  • hi vicki am only 11 and I've started my period my mum is really helpful but i only have on friend to talk to and she has not started hers yet am a dancer so am nervous if anyone know that I've got my period please answer quick thanks xx

No one can tell just by looking at you that your period has arrived, and if you do not feel comfortable sharing this news with others, then keep it to yourself until you feel more confident.

  • vicki i dont know if if i started my period im 12 i went to the toilet and i wiped my front ( v ) and brown stuff came off and i looked on my nickers and there was this brown stuff but i thought it was poo but i know i didnt poo myself so i thought it may be my period but im not sure

Poo generally has a rather offensive odour and if it is menstural fluid once you have showered if you notice more blood loss then this is definitely your period and you should share this  news with your mum.

  • hi vicki i started my period at age 11 and its really heavy i changed my towel 2 times in half a hour and really nervous but i and a dancer xxx thanks

It may be a good idea to change brands and consider trying our Lil-Lets Freshlock range of normal, long and night pads, ideal for heavy periods and super comfortable too. They can be worn for up to 8 hours with confidence.

  • My friend has smoked since 12 and she has had sex a lot of times and her relationships are really short I feel like she can do better than that. Is there a way I can help her? She wont stop smoking and it's like she is addicted to boys she is 16 but she has been having sex for ages before that, since Primary 7.

Other than being there for your friend as support her decisions are her own I am afraid as she is now legally old enough to be sexually activce.

  • Hi Vicki!

I'm in need of some advice. I'm 14 and have decided that today is the day that I want to come out to my mum as bisexual; I've had doubts about my sexuality for years, but then realised at the end of the summer of this year. I've wrote her a letter to tell her, but I'm still really nervous. Any advice?

    Thank you! :)

I am sure your mum will support you in your decision and even though she may be shocked by your news at first, as a parent she will be there for  you I am sure.

  • I'm always paranoid that when I do the slightest thing the police will get me in trouble and I have no idea why this is? It's getting annoying.

It is very common to find as you get older you consider more serious scenarios and I really would not worry too much this is simply your body maturing and nothing to worry about.

  • Hi Vicki!
At school I overheard Anne (not her real name) say to her friend that if you ever felt like you are ugly, you should compare yourself to Jane (not her real name) and Anne and her friend both laughed.
I don't know if I should tell Jane what Anne said or talk to Anne and tell her that I heard what she said and she shouldn't be making horrible remarks like that, or if I should just do nothing.
    What should I do?
    Hannah x

Hi Hannah, this really is up to you. My advice would not be to share these very unkind comments with Jane, but maybe have a quiet word with Anne and her friend letting them know how important it is to support each other during puberty.

  • Dear Viki,
I'm 12 years old and a 30-32 A. My mom is completely flat chested. I'm really small for my age and I was wondering if I'd end up like my mom... Will I?

Not necessarily, you may take after your father's side of the family and as you are now 12 you have lots of time for development to happen.

  • Hi Vicky,I'm Jane.I started my first period lately and finished it.My breast has grown a bit.I have also noticed that my breast bud has flatten a bit.I have had breast buds for 3 years! When is the breast buds going to go away.It also hurts alot when i touch it.Is this normal?

Breast buds form part of breast tissue and as you continue to develop then you will start to notice the bud grows larger and a little softer too.

  • I hate my what used to be best friend, I dontknow why I was ever friends with her. I don't want to be friends with her anymore because she is just so horrible to everyone, but she's persistant on making me feel bad and staying best friends. What do I do??? Please help from rose

Hi Rose, have a quiet word with her without quarrellng, letting her know that things have changed in your friendship and it may now be time for you both to find new friendship groups of which you have similar likes and dislikes. It does not mean you have to fall out, but rather gently cease the amount of time you spend together until both of you are comfortable in the company of others.

  • Hello Vivki,
    I was wondering...
What is my bra size? Am even ready for a bra?
My under bust is 68cm and my bust is 71cm.
What cup and size am I?
Please reply, I would be so grateful if you did.
    I am 12

32AA is your size if these measurements are correct.

  • Part 1
Hi vicki. I think I have severe depression. I took a test by Clinical Partners and answered all the questions honestly. I started cutting last week and I think about death at night some times. I have tried to hint it to my parents that something is wrong with me but they just laugh or say its hormones. .

Depression can only ever be diagnosed by a medical professional and not by entering your data into a computer quiz. Puberty is hard for lots of teenagers and you really must let someone know you are self harming, they will be able to help you manage this time in your life and support you when you need it.

  • Does 'third base count if you do it through jeans or leggings? Like if a boy rubs you betwen you're legs or a girl like touches a boys erection while they have clothes on, does it count as sexual contact????

Yes it does, very much so.

  • Hello Viki!
A- I luv this website, it's so useful!
B- I had my first period on Tuesday the 4th of November, and I'm still on it!!
Should I be worried that my first period has been here for almost 3 weeks? I'm pretty scared!!
    Thanks for all you've done!
    Lots of love,
    Xxxxxxxxxx Sarah xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Sarah first periods can often be longer in duration but if you are at all worried have a chat to your mum or the person who cares for you and they may pop you along to your doctor for a chat.

  • I had my last period (and first) last year november and i got spotting last week why did it take so long to happen again

Periods are very often irregular because your body is still changing and this can continue for a few more years and is nothing to worry about.

  • Hi viki
I just wanted to ask if my period is regular or irregular because i am getting it each 21 days will it stay like this till i get bigger
BTW i got my period in july 2014
    Please answer ASAP

It may do or you may find it changes over the next few years and as you continue to mature.

  • Hi Vicki,
This may seem a bit strange but how do you flirt with a boy?
    Char xx

Hi Char, if you like a boy then smile when you see him, say "Hi", ask him how his weekend was. If he likes you he will chat back to you.

  • Hiya, so I have had many periods but they have always been really heavy, and just recently I have begun getting them every !month but they are really light! I got it on Tuesday when I wiped then it went after 10 minuets then Friday night I got it again and now its Saturday morning it has gone againπŸ‘Ž my friend keep telling me I need to go to the doctors, but I don't know, I understand periods are irregular for the first years but I started in 2012. Please helpπŸ™‡πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½πŸš½

Periods can continue to be irregular in both flow and their arrival  throughout your teen years and you have nothing to worry about, your body is simply working out the right monthly cycle just for you.

  • I need to tell my mum that i need a bra but ive never even had the slightest conversation about puberty. Im close to my aunties so maybe i should tell them and they can pass on what i said to my mum. I dont know what to do... Plz help. Thank you β™₯️

This sounds like a good idea and once your mum knows I am sure she will take  you shopping for your first bra.

  • Help. I think I got my first period. Blood it's bright red tho. When I wipe my vagina BUT also when I wipe my bottom after pooing. IWhat is this????

Any blood noticed when wiping your anal passage after visiting the toilet to release waste food, could be a sign of constipation, which is easily remedied by eating more fruit and cereals on a daily basis.

  • Vicki please answer quickly. Today I think I got my period but it's not actually a flow. When I wipe there is blood but is that normal or not. Also some it's like bright red and I heard it should be browny kinda colour. I put one of my lil lets teen pad and only one drop went on it in the night. Got up wiped after I peed then loads of bright red. Help

The amount of blood released can vary from person to person and this does sound very much like your period. If you read my blog So What Is Menstrual Fluid you will see it can vary in colour from brown to dark red so please try not to worry.

  • Hi Vicki! So in the morning i noticed a brown stain and i tought it was my period but i asked my mom what it is and she said that i probably didn't wipe enough, and it was poop there but yesterday i changed my panties right before sleep and i smelled it and it didn't smell like poop at all. I don't wanna tell my mom what i think but i think it's my period. Btw i'm 12 year old and a half. Pleasem what do i do? If this is my period i'm gonna have to wait like 6 monthes to know if it is....

Why not consider wearing a pad or liner for the next few days and see if anymore fluid is lost, you can then have another chat to your mum about this matter.

  • Hiya Vicki (:

The story is, I'm good friends with the guy I have a crush on, R, and my two other friends, A and M are insisting that he likes me back. But the thing I'm worried about is he's kinda been ignoring me lately, but A is best friends with R and is positive he likes me.

Help?? Loads of thanks and I love your site x

    Dani x

Hi Dani, it may be that this boy is being a little aloof as he is worried you may find out how he truly feels about you. Boys do not mature as early as girls and often find the idea of dating a little scary or embarrassing. So why not put him at ease and chat to him as a friend and ask your friends to stop making any comments about the two of you dating.

  • Hiya Vicki
    I'm 13
I've had discharge for 2 years
I've got long think hair down there
    I'm 30a in bras
ive had pinkish/reddish spotting before once or twice
But when will I get my period x thanks
    Xx

This pink/reddish blood you have noticed is your period, even though there was not a huge amount released.

  • Hi,I dont know why, have you ever had mood swings or like your heart has dropped around boys? What age did u have ur period?

My period arrived when I was 14 and yes I had a few crushes on boys, just like most girls and it made my heart beat faster and felt like butterlies in my tummy. This I know now is part of the journey from being a child to becoming a young adult and very normal indeed.

  • i have an itchy and tight vagina how do i use a tampon when im in this position ?

If you are noticing irritation to the vaginal area I would recommend using a pad and not a tampon until the irritation has ceased.

  • PART 1::::: Dear Vicki, I've been going through puberty for quite a while now, but nothing has really happened. I know we all develop at different rates etc and my breasts are buds and I've got a little pubic hair but today in science I had a really bad cramp in my lower stomach where you would

See my response in Part Two.

  • I'm really flat, only a 30-32 A. My mom is completely flat, like no chest whatsoever.... Does that mean I'll be flat too? Btw: I'm 12 years old and I've some years to go, but will I have a small chest when I stop growing??

Breast size can be genetic, but that does not mean you will follow the same pattern as your mum, you may take after other family members, even those on your dad's side of the family, so try not to worry and be patient, as you say you are still only young and have plenty of time for breast growth to occur.

  • Hi Vicky!
    Firstly, your sight is great.
Secondly, What size bra am i?
    Bust = 75/76 cm
    Band = 71/72 cm

    Thank you x

32AA is your size based on these measurements and thanks for the great feedback, I am happy to hear you like the website.

  • Hi Vicki,
Basically, I'd love to wear make up, mascara and eyeliner mostly, but I have idea how to apply it! I've tried looking at YouTube videos and such to help but I just can't do it! I'm really scared of trying it out because I'm scared that people will laugh at me, and talk about me behind my back. What should I do?!
Please help me, I would be so grateful!
    O xx

Most of us have to practice where make-up is concerned. So at the weekend get some eyeliner and practice putting it on. We all have different eye shapes and therefore the way we apply our liner will be different for each of us. I am sure in no time at all you will find the right look for you and if you wear it at home you will less self conscious if you decide to wear it in school.

  • Hey,
I had a boyfriend in year 7. I really liked him but we would barely talk in school, but we would text each other for hours on end. Now I like another person and I'm scared if I go out with him, we wont talk. With my previous boyfriend I felt a lot of peer pressure because everyone wanted me to hug him and I don't feel comfortable doing that for some reason? Please help?
    Louise x

Hi Louise, if you like this boy and you date, you can always let him know straight away that you want to take things slowly and get to know each other as friends. If he truly likes you he will be happy to do this and make sure you organise time for you both to do things outside of school, such as going for a burger, cinema or the park. That way there will be more face to face chatting and less texting.

  • Iv had discharge 4 three yrs and I still haven't started my period. Is there something wrong with me....?????
    Isabelle
    Tnx

Hi Isabelle, discharge can often be noticed for longer than a year, but remember too that brown discharge is often your period as menstrual fluid is not always red in colour.

  • Hi Vicki
Recently I started Secondary School and there are loads more people than at my primary school. I have never before really fancied anyone but now there is like a few boys I like. Basically is it weird to fancy more than one boy and how can you be friends with a boy without being teased?
Sorry I now it is long but thanks xx

It is quite normal to like more than one person and if you chat to them when they are around, find out what they like, music, sport, films...etc. you will quickly notice which one of these boys is the one you like the best.

  • Hi Vicki
My mum has mentioned about going to get a bra and my aunt has asked me about my period (it hasn't started yet) and I'm wondering if I should tell her now or not that I know about these things because I'm really uncomfortable with my body and insecure so I'm very shy to ask her
    Plz give me some advice
    Jess
P.s. I don't feel very confident to ask her when she got her first bra and when her period started but I have an older sister

If your mum and aunt are happy to open up the conversation about being a girl and puberty then let them know you already know some things but would like more help. I appreciate it may seem a little embarrassing at first, but in no time at all you will start to feel better about these subjects and more comfortable discussing them.

  • i really like this boy,but i dont know wether to tell him, because im pretty sure he only likes me as a friend..

Why not wait a few more weeks and spend more time with this boy, at some point he will realise that you like him as more than just a friend. And after a while you may find asking him if he wants to spend some time hanging out at the weekend gives him the final clue.

  • I have a gymnastics competition tomorrow and im on my period im 12 i dont like using tampons and were nkt allowed to were pants. I dont know what to do!!! Please help!😁

Have a chat to your Gymnastics teacher and ask her advice, she will be used to this issue cropping up and I am sure will allow you to wear underwear on this occasion.

  • Hi Vicki,
I was wondering what to do about the current situation I am in. I have this group of 'friends' I want to leave but not act mean towards. There are 7 of us and most of them act like I'm not there most of the time (unintentionally) but it hurts. And when I'm by myself with one of them, it's always awkward and I have to ask questions about stuff they're doing to get a conversation started. What should I do? Not to mention everyone else in my school are in there own groups too. Xx

In my opinion you can never have enough friends, so why not start to join some after school clubs or even in school clubs and start chatting to new people, you may find that you can still be part of this group of friends whilst also getting to know new people.

  • This is a bit of a weird question but for the past year or so I have felt so anxious about everything, the fact that I'm 15 and never kissed a boy, thinking my friends don't like me, family...I don't know if I have anxiety but its definitely starting to have an effect as most nights I can't concentrate on work or sleep. Its basically like a tiny thing will get me in a state and I will think about it ALL DAY and I know its stupid and doesn't matter but I worry anyway. What should I do? xx

These changes you are noticing are very normal and are caused by fluctuating hormones travelling through your body, as it helps the change from a child to an adult. So yes you may find that you worry a little more about things because you are now more aware of the world around you, but I urge you to not take things too seriously as these feelings will not last forever and you may find chatting them through with friends and family helps you feel better about yourself. Why not also read my blog this week Too Tired for School, you may find it useful.

  • Hey vicki my names Ellie
I've started my period and I'm 15 and I have always used your products
Also when my period is heavy at night I'm using the lil-let's night pads however are they strong enough and will they last the whole night

Thank you hope you can awnser ASAP xxxxx

Hi Ellie, our Lil-lets Freshlock night time pads are an ideal pad to wear at night as they have a wider section at one end that can be placed either way in your underwear. I put the wider section at the front as I sleep on my tummy and they keep me leak free all night.

  • Hi, i had my second period yesterday (carried into today) and i feel like i loose alot of blood as as soon as i change my pad/ liner (use avout 2/3liners and 3/4 pads a day) after like 45min/1hr its ready half full so im woried what should i do and it always leaks into my knickers so i have to change them like 2/3 times a day help me pleaseπŸŽ€πŸŽ€πŸŽ€πŸŽ€πŸŽ€πŸŽ€ bowGirly

Try a different brand or size of pad for your heavier days. You may find our Lil-Lets Freshlock long and night pads are ideal as they are super absorbent and super comfortable, they work for me and I have extremely heavy periods, so why not give them a go.

  • Hello Vicki, I was wondering weather the earlier you start your period the more your breast will develop. My friends who started their period at age 10 have c cups however I started at 12 and have aa cups. Thank you x

Your breast size is not linked to your period and you may find reading my blog entitled Your Period Is Not The End Of The Story useful too.

  • hiya vicki, do you think ill start my period soon. I've had discharge for 11 1/2 months?

Discharge is always a great sign that your period is not too far away and some girls continue to notice this fluid is released for a year or more before the arrival of their period. My advice would be to keep some pads or liners with you when out and about so you are always prepared.

  • I am self conscious about my armpit hair growing quite far down my arm, what should I do?

You could remove this hair if you have the permission of your parent or the person who cares for you, or you could trim it back a little. In my experience under arm hair rarely grows very long and just like the hair on the rest of your body it is shed over a period of time, to allow new hair growth to come through.

  • I have periods as well as discharge inbetween them. I have noticed for a while while discharging i somtimes get up off of my chair to see a wet patch on the seat.Panty liners don't seem to help that much and this is getting embarressing incase anyone see's my chair. Is there anything I can do?

This may not be discharge at all but rather sweat if you are wearing lots of layers. Why not consider wearing a long liner or normal sized pad to help manage this extra moisture.

  • Hi it seems that towels aren't really working for me. Whenever I wear one, I always get quite a lot of blood on my pants too. I don't know why. I always change my towel within 2 to 3 hours. Also, often I feel like my towel is really full and when I go to the toilet to change it I find lots of blood around my vagina and upper legs. Is there any way I can prevent this? I'm often scared I'm getting blood on my clothes. Thank you, I would love an answer! :)

If you have a heavy period you can do one of two things; use a higher absorbency pad such as our Lil-lets Freshlock long pads, which are super absorbent and comfortable too. Or you may want to consider switching to Lil-Lets tampons that come in a wide range of absorbencies for even the heaviest of flows. And as tampons capture fluid from inside the body you will no longer notice any discomfort from the residue of blood around the top of your legs.

Hi, periods can vary in the amount of blood produced and the length of time they are around for, so please try not to worry, as a teenager your body is still working out the right menstrual cycle just for you.

  • I've been getting my period for over four years now (I am only 14) and my mum has bought me non-aplicator teens tampons to try. This is the third time I have tried tampons and I just can't understand how to insert them. I want to use tampons as I know it'll probably make my periods a lot easier. I've read the booklet that comes in the tampons pack, all over the website and watched the videos but I still cannot seem to get the tampon inserted in the right place. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

KJust like anything new tampons can take a bit of practice and my advice is to relax, stand with your knees slightly bent and insert the tampon in a slanting direction towards the base of your spine, ensuring the tampon is inserted fairly high inside your vagina so it does not feel uncomfortable. Some girls find giving a little cough as they insert helps aid insertion as this relaxes the vaginal muscles and makes insertion easier.

  • Hi vicki

People always think I look sad, confused and even depressed but I'm not! It's just because my the edges of my mouth natuarly goes down a bit which makes me look sad but I'm not it's just my face. What could I do to make people see that I'm perfectly alright and happy?

I am sure once you chat to people and smile they will quickly see they have been mistaken in their initial view of you.

  • I have great friends and family and I don't have a hard life but recently I've just been feeling so unhappy for no reason and it's scaring me so much. It got to the point where I started cutting my thighs. I felt so empty running the blade across my legs and it scared me. I don't want to tell anyone because so many other people have it worse and I feel so guilty.

During your teenage years it is very normal to find you have times of sadness or anger and your mood can change without warning. I implore you to speak to your family or teacher about these feelings and they will ensure you are supported and no longer feel the need to self harm.

  • Hi Vicki
    I love this blog!
I have a burning feeling in my vagina I have not masturbated but I need a wee quite a lot it really hurts ! I don't know what to do
    Thanks ❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️

It seems you may have a urine infection and you must speak to your parents or the person who cares for you immediately and let them know of this pain, as if left untreated it can be very painful. The treatment is very easy and nothing to worry about and is generally a case of drinking a special solution for a few days, you can purchase it over the counter at your chemist or by visiting your doctor.

  • Hi Vicki
Is it true that by wearing sanitary pads or tampons you are increasing your risk of cancer due to dioxin exposure. Sorry if this is inappropriate I just want to know what you think. Thanks

No there is absolutely no truth to this rumour.

  • Hi, i got my second period yesterday (i had cramps all day) but it was really heavy (and it was heavy today as well) i change my pad 4/5 times a day as its heavy ( cause i had school so i changed it before school brake, lunch and after school) then at home i usually put liners on but changed them like 2/3 times but i never usually have blood in my pee but as soon as i put my pad on its like half ful adter like 45min/1hr and im getting worried im loosing to much blood! Please help mee!! πŸŽ€ BowGirly

Hi, pads should be changed every 3-5 hours and sometimes when periods are heavy it may and idea to switch to another brand of pad and my advice would be to try our Lil-lets Freshlock normal or long pads ideal for heavy periods and super soft too.

  • Hey Vicki,
All the girls in my year have crop tops except for me and this one other girl. And I'm so upset cause we all change in the same room, how could I get a crop top without directly telling my mum about it?

Why not ask your mum how old she was when she got her first crop top or bra, this should move the conversation over to you and if you now feel ready. I appreciate that chatting about these things is a little embarrassing, but try to remember that your mum was a teenager once and will understand.

  • Hi Vicki I have a big problem !!!

Today I was at school and this boy came up to me and started to cheekily play with me and a bit flirty he is in my form and i like him but he has a girlfriend but he aways flirts with me and yesterday he started looking at my boobs and I felt really nervous and now I feel out with him for something else but he was talking to all his friends about how big my boobs are please can you give me some advice ps I am in year seven and my bra size is 30C thank you Ellie xx

Hi Ellie, firstly if this boy has a girlfriend he is not being very nice to her is he? So take my advice stay away from him and stick to hanging around with friends.  And if you find him looking at your breasts move away or turn around, so he is unable to see them.

  • Hi Vicki !! there is this guy who I kinda like and he has asked me out and asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yeah but I felt kinda pressured by my friends to do it and now the whole year in school knows ! He used to be good friends with me but now he is always trying to hug me and hold my hand and I feel a bit uncomfortable ! What should I do ?? I don't want to hurt his feelings !
    Thanks
    Girlygirl99

Why not let this boy know that he is moving too quickly for you and whilst you like hiim this is to much attention and for now can you continue being  close friends and see how things happen naturally.  If you still feel uncomfortable around him, then you can always let him know in a few weeks that you feel you feel friendship more than romance when with him.

  • i keep feeling dizzy and confused when I do my dancing for school clubs and at home what should I do

Eat  and drink more is my first tip for keeping yourself feeling fit and well. If after doing this you still feel dizzy, speak to your parents and share this news with them. They may decide to pop you along to your GP for a check-up.

  • Hi Vicki I normally get white discharge but yesterday and this morning it turned to a brown colour but now it's back to normal. Do you have any idea what might have caused it?

This could have been one of two things; your first period or residue from waste food released from your anal passage and not wiped away thoroughly. Why not wear a pad or liner for the next few days just as a precaution and see if any more fluid is noticed.

  • Hi Vicki Do you know when I will start my period?
I am 13 turning 14 I have all the signs and I'm fully developed
    Thanx

We are all very different and a period can arrive anytime between the ages of 8-18 and as you have already noticed so many other signs of puberty I am sure your period is now not too far away.

  • Hi Vicki, I am 14 and there is this boy in 1 of my classes and he always jokes about, my friends find him annoying, and i used to find him annoying, but now i dont know why but i sorta like him however, he is always staring at me i want to ask him if he likes me but , i feel like my friends say ehhh you like him he is so annoying, i so dont know what to do it sooo confusing
    Thank you vicki

Why not wait and if this boy likes you he will let you know after he has seen a few tips from you that you like him back, such as smiling and chatting to him. As for your friends, well if they are true friends they will accept your choice of boyfriend and support you, after all it would not do for us all to be attracted to the same person; would it!

  • I have had vaginal discharge for about 1 year and a half and i havent started my period yet and i am 12 years old my mom and sister both started theirs when they were 13 im not sure whether this is normal i just wanted a little bit pf guidance as i am too embarrassed to ask my mom please help.

This is all very normal and often discharge is noticed for longer than a year. It may be that you will follow the same pattern as your mum and sister and your period may be with you in 2015.

  • I haven't started my period. I have had a year of discharge , pubic hair and developed breasts. I have had what I think to be cramps for 6 days. A very dull but annoying pain. Is this me period on its way?
    Thanks

With so many signs of puberty already noticed I doubt you will have much longer to wait before the arrival of your first period; possibly early in 2015.

  • Hey, Viki
I'm 13 years old with really bad anxiety and acne and I don't have a lot of confidence and I'm deaf but I get really bad anxiety when either I make a speech in class or tests (mainly) or friendship and boys and it doesn't help my confidence, most of the time when I can't cope I talk to my best friend but it doesn't help much and I want to overcome them. Please help xx

Have a chat to your parents and teachers and share your concerns. Just like any teen your confidence is low, but with support you can change this status and find a new confidence by learning some tricks. You may  even find my blog entitled Walk Tall useful too.

  • Hi
My nipples poke through my shirt. I've found some of my sisters(21) old bras. One oft he padded ones fits perfectly. How to I ask for a real padded bra and should I ask/tell her about my sisters old bras

You really should let your sister know you have taken one of her bras and I am sure once you let her know how comfortable it is she will help you chat this over with your mum who may decide to purchase a new one for you.

  • I have had many periods and started in 2012 which now I am 14 my periods were so irregular at the start taking as much as 5-10 months gap in between each, I know they r often irregular for the first years or so but they used to be heavy now they r so light Its not worth wearing a pad, I got it tuesday and it was pink and light I put a pad on and it went And 2 days after it hasn't come back, my friend say i need to go to the doctors , please help I don't know whether to be conserded

The type of period we have can vary just as much as the gaps in between each period, so please try not to worry, your body will still be working out your menstrual cycle and these changes to flow are very common.

  • My friends and I have had about 3 arguments since the start of year 9 in September. They all keep accusing me of talking behind their backs when I haven't done anything wrong. It's happened again this week so I have only been hanging out with 1 of them. Also E has been acting like she is the leader of the group and trying to arrange meetings to discuss what is happening. She is really controlling and all of them are getting on my nerves now, I'm at breaking point. Is it time for me to find new friends?😁

During puberty friendships are often tested to their limits. You could have a chat to all of your friends in a group, letting them know you have not acted badly and spoken behind their backs and hope that you can all move on and continue being friends. If this does not work then it may be time to find a new group of friends and you may find my blog entitled Keeping and Making Friends a useful blog.

  • Vicki just a quick little tiny question. Why did it say on this page that we cant ask a question for a while...and that you were working very hard on this...? What was it? Sorry just curious. I had a question, but now I cant remember what was it...? Oh well....sorry for being nosey...hehehee

With so many questions asked over the last four years we were running out of memory to make way for new ones, so we took the opportunity to move the memory to another location.

  • Hi Vicki!

I'm a girl and recently me and my girl best friend were talking about school and I said "all my friends get dated, I never do. I don't even know why I'm complaining, no one will ever date me" and she replied with "I'd date you." She told me multiple time she was being serious but how can I be sure? It's completely fine with me if she's gay. What should I do?

If you do not feel romantically attracted to your friend, then I see no reason why you cannot tell her so, but let her know that you value her as a friend but nothing more.

  • Hi vicki

Well, basically the other day I overheard my friends saying that I always look sad and confused but I thought they were having a joke so I turned round and sort of laughed and said "if course I'm not sad and confused" but then they all went "oh I think she heard us" and then they said that a boy in our class thinks I look depressed! I'm not though, it's just my face, but now I do feel a bit sad after hearing that. What should I do?

If you feel well and happy, then I would not worry too much about these comments. You have to be true to yourself and if you feel ok, then it really is no one else's business.

  • Is it wrong to have sex at 12/13 - With a 15 year old?
Or to even have sex at that age at all?

It is against the law for either a man or boy to have sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 16.

  • help my nan says I need to get out of my moods but she thinks im old enough to stop my mood swings but when im coming on my period I start getting ratty and sore tummys and I don't know what it is and also I cant settle at night can I have help I started my period in august this year and I just come on today whats happing to me please help

Mood swings are not just experienced before our periods arrive or during our periods, then can occur anytime during puberty and last well into your late teens. But you can help manage these feelings yourself. Why not read our section on Emotions under the Puberty tab for more on this subject.

  • My mum doesn't believe me that I am having my periods, because I am only 10 years old! How do I persuade my mum?

Why not show your mum your stained underwear or pad, I am sure she will understand that this is menstrual fluid and be only to happy to help you manage this time in your life going forward.

  • Hiya Viki!
Glad to here website is back up! What happened??
    Lola xxxxxxx

Hi Lola, we've had so many questions over the last four years we had to make room for more and this meant moving the place where we keep our website information to a larger space.

  • Hey Vicki
I got bullied in Primary. Year 7, no bullying :D Year 8. Got bullied for a month, my bestie forced me to go to our school counsellor, got it sorted. Year 9 (this year) I got bullied again. Went to my fave teacher eva, who came with me to our counsellor, and our counsellor went to our deputy head and I think he got it sorted. But one of the 2 girls who bullied me sits next to me in tutor! I keep making excuses to not be in tutor, but I can't miss tutor everyday! Help please!

I am sure this girl has been told to change her behaviour and therefore you have no reason to fear her. So be brave and don't let her prevent you from enjoying school. You may just find that now things are sorted you could become friends.

  • Hello! So I am in year 10 and my friend,(more like a little brother to me) just joined year 7 and he is being bullied, the school isn't doing anything, and his mum is trying to sort it out but they are still bullying him, if they be nasty to him when I am there what should I do? How can I help him? Thank you πŸ‘Žβœ‹πŸ˜£πŸ’œπŸ‘£πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

If you feel brave enough step in and have a word with these bullies. If not then report what you have seen to the teachers who will I am sure do all they can to stop this behaviour.

  • Hey Vicki, there's this guy that I think likes me and I think I might like too. He notices when I change my hairstyle, (friendly) teases me, and has jokingly asked me to go out with him a few times (on dares I think), I think he also goes out of his way to speak to me. I've never had a boyfriend so I don't know what to do. Could you help???

    ConfusedCrusher

Why not continue chatting to this boy as a friend, he seems confident and I am sure if he truly does want to date you he will let you know as time goes by.

  • Hey Vicki,
I'm 14 and I really need your help, I have a darkened patch of skin between my vagina and anal hole, its a pit raised like little lumps but can be flattened out when skin is pulled apart, I'm very worried of what this is as I have searched the internet yet can't really find much I'm not sexually active. Please put this under (sex and sexual feelings) thanks please reply quick!? I need your help

    Hannah 😞

Hi Hannah, a great many people have this discolouration between their anal passage and vaginal opening, it is nothing to worry about and very normal.

  • I am really jealous of these two girls in my class called E1 and E2. I just started year 7. They are so pretty and skinny and they are so popular while I am fat and ugly. I got no friends. What should I do?

You have to start being nicer to yourself, we are all very different and I am quite sure you are beautiful. My advice is to stop comparing yourself to others and start living your life to the full and having fun.

  • Hi vicki, I hav a best friend but I really liked him so I thought I should just tell him! But he said he loved me as a sister not a gf but I didn't really mind. but then my other best friend and she said she liked him too, they had never even spoken! Anyway she asked me too get them to go out I wanted to be nice so I agreed but he said no, then she asked me to get them together again and now they're going out... Now she won't talk to me... I think I'm in love with him and idk wat to do..

It seems unfortunate that by helping your friend you have in turn lost her friendship. Why not have a chat with her and ask her why she is being so distant, letting her know you value her friendship and that of her boyfriend too. I  am sure there is nothing wrong and he is just a little preoccupied.

  • Hi Vicki
I'm really scared I left my tampon in for 8.5-9 hours and it was super absorbency and there was hardly any blood on it since I think my period just ended do I have TSS now? Should I see a doctor? I can't really ask my mom because she never uses tampons

If you feel generally well with none of the symptoms associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome being experienced I would not worry about this. But please make sure in future you only ever wear a tampon for the stipulated time and if you feel unwell at all over the next few days please let your mum know.

  • Hello my name is Hannah I get really confused when I next have a perioid and how long it will last ? Can you help me ?

Periods can be irregular for the first few years with long gaps between each one often noticed. For now and as your body works out the right monthly cycle just for you, my advice would be to keep some pads with you in your school or sports bag and consider wearing a pant liner on a daily basis to protect your underwear from any unexpected arrivals.

  • Hi Vicki, sometimes with my best friend we joke around talking about celebrities saying oh he will definitely go for me not you, in a jokey way.But my friend keeps mentioning oh well I have curves and you don't, I do have curves I guess but I'm skinny and she's not.I find her saying that hurtful, like she's trying to make me feel bad for being skinny. It seems like it's ok to say comments to skinny girls but not to bigger girls, why is this and why does she keep saying those sort of comments ?

Why not have a chat to her and let her know how upsetting you find her comments and that as true friends you would hope that you both understand what is permitted conversation and what is not. I am sure she does not mean to be hurtful.

  • Is it wrong for a boy in year 7 to go out with a girl in year 9?

Not if they both like each other.

  • Hi, i never got my period yet buht i've had discharge for 3 months. The discharge is white buht turns yellow,on the pantyliner. is that okay?

Hi, this is fine and very normal. Lots of girls find that discharge once dried in their underwear is yellow in colour.

  • hi, i think i had my second period however at the time i was wearing pink undies so im not sure if it was or not, also later that day i checked my undies and there was nothing there like it had dried up and disappeared. Thnx from violet

Hi Violet if you have not noticed any further fluid being released then this may have been clear discharge that gave the appearance of menstrual fluid in your pink underwear and my advice would be to wear a Lil-Lets pant liner for the next couple of days as a precaution.

  • How I get rid of my pubic hair!! Sorry if it's inappropriate xx

There really is no need to remove your pubic hair if you do not wish to and instead you may prefer to trim it back a little with some rounded tipped scissors. If you are still keen to remove all of this hair then shaving or waxing are two options, but be aware if the advice on using this method is not adhered to then you may find yourself with an ugly rash.

  • Hi Vicki my under bust is 71 cm and my bust is 81 cm what is my bra size? Also, are there anyways to increase breast growth because I feel like my breasts are too small for my broad frame :(

32AA is your size and it really is a case of waiting for your breasts to mature and as they can continue developing into your late teens or early twenties you have plenty of time for this to happen.

  • Hi Vicki
When you shave, is it a good idea to use shaving cream rather than showers gel?

It really is a personal choice, some people prefer specific shaving products, other shower gels, some even hair conditioner. The most important thing is that you are using something to help the razor glide across your skin.

  • Hi Vivki
So I was at the toilet and when I wiped I noticed a small bit of red and I think it was blood Im not quite sure it didn't look like period blood and IVe been on my period for 9 months I nirmal get my period at the end of the month and it's the 10th today do you now what it is should I worry

Periods are often irregular for the first few years with both long and short gaps in between each one. Why not wear a pad or liner for the next few days to capture any further fluid released.

  • Hello, so basically I really want to work in the RSPCA when i am ikder , and they are all saying that I should work with animals and stuff, but when I say about the RSPCA they all go against it. Do they know something I don't? I'm really confused, what is wrong with the RSPCA? Thank youπŸ»πŸ―πŸ’πŸ΅πŸ¨πŸ³πŸŸπŸ πŸ‘πŸ™πŸπŸ²

I think the RSPCA is a wonderful organisation and I am sure if you contact your local branch they will be able to offer you advice on how to progress you career or take part in some voluntary work that will help you decide if this is the role for you.

  • Vicki im 16 in high school & i have these really small hands they are like the same size as my 11 yr old sisters & shes a lil bit smaller then me & im like 134 lbs w/ these small hands that everybody jus thinks its cute & funny & i hate have small hands, why are they small? Will they get any more bigger?? By the way im 5'2, plus mom & dad dont have small hands. I dont like my hands

Rather than calling them small, consider them dainty and petite which is fine and really nothing to worry about. I have two daughters and just like you one has very delicate small hands whilst my other daughter as larger ones. We really are all different you see.

  • »»»»Hello vicki,
Im worried that i wont qet my nipples, im only 16 & i jave no nipples well the thinq is when i qet cold or in the shower they kinda pop or form but not fully like a nipple is suppose to but like nipples actually are poped out to a point it could qet pierced but mines arent like that,Β am i every qunna qet mine? Or am i qunna have inverted ones? Sorrt its kina inapropriate but im really worried.

Nipples are generally the last part of breast development to be noticed and as you have noticed they are very sensitive to touch and temperature. So please try not to worry you have plenty of time for them to become more pronounced.

  • Hey Vicki, I have asked my mom about this and she says it's normal, but how long is too long after getting your first period to get another? I had mine about five months ago (it was really light though) and it lasted a few days. Do you know how long is too long before I should be worried?

Your mum is quite right and periods often have long gaps between each one for the first couple of years and this is nothing to worry about.

  • How do I ask my mom for bras?

    Jaydene πŸ’•

Hi Jaydene, why not ask your mum how old she was when she got her first bra, this should move the convesation nicely over to you and if you now feel ready for one.

  • "I haven't had nipple discharge in a while, and I'm kinda getting worried. What is wrong? What should I do? I'm sort of on my period, and I've started puberty."

It is quite common for both boys and girls to experience a little nipple discharge during puberty and this is caused by the fluctuating levels of hormones in your body. As you get older this will cease and is nothing to worry about.

  • Hey Vicki I haven't bee here in a while well my question today is that I have been around 5-6 menstruated cycles and my period lasts for 9-10 days but after those days end I still have a few days(5) after that period blood is still coming out and if I had to count exactly how long my full real period is its about 10-15 days is that normal for me I'm 11
    ~Francis~πŸ‘…πŸ‘‚πŸ’¦πŸ™‰πŸ‘ΉπŸ˜ΏπŸ˜ΆπŸ˜ΆπŸ˜πŸ˜’πŸ˜‚πŸ˜€πŸ˜—

Hi Francis, this is quite normal for during puberty and nothing to be concerned about. You may find as you get older the length of your period is reduced, whilst for some longer periods are common.

  • hi Vicky
I'm 12 and I have my period and scince then my boobs have grown a bit but I don't know if I need a bra

Why not visit our Boobs and Bras section and measure yourself, you will soon be able to see if your breasts are not full enough for your first bra.

  • Is it weird that I'm not attracted to guys in my grade (7)? I'm attracted to older guys. For example I was attracted to a 16 year old and a 14 year old. Is it just my hormones? I find the boys in my grade to be immature and annoying. I'm in junior high school so I'm with the actual high school. I gave up on the 16 year old because it'd be illegal in my state once he turns 17 and my mom said that's way too old. (I'm only 13).

Boys do mature slightly later than girls so it is not unusual for girls to find the boys in their year a little babyish, but be patient they will mature and for now why not think of any boys of any age as friends rather than someone you need to date. At 13 your education is the one of most importants thing you should be concentrating on and boys can often take your mind off this.

  • Hi it lil me and my bf have started kissing a bit and he is still directly looking at my breasts and I am not ok with that how do I tell him? And im 11 I have started my period I have a bra size and I think my friend is a lesbian because she touched my boobs last week and I dont know how to tell her that it makes me feel werid thx plz relply what what s
    hould I do

Hi you could gently touch your boyfriends chin and lift it up or move slightly so he stops staring. As for your friend I am sure this was just an accident or out of curiousity and nothing for you to worry about.

  • This year we got a German exchange student. He's 16 and I'm 13. We started texting. When we would text he would send emojis, but now he doesn't. I'm pretty sure he used to flirt with me. By flirting I mean saying he would invite me to play basketball, and saying I could steal his warmth and sweatshirts. It just hurts me inside knowing that it's over and I lost my chance. (I kinda just wanted to vent my feelings that were bottled up) Advice?

It may be that you have mistaken this boy's intentions of being friendly with something else and he has noticed this and does not want to mislead you. My advice is to not be too angry and focus on the fun times you had as friends, thinking of them fondly and then move on with your life.

  • Can you please add pixie Lott to the list

Hi, yes she is on our list already.

  • Hai Vicki, Recently I've become so sad and not wanting to do stuff and I will just cry all the time but keep it all to myself becasue I don't like talking about it. Is this normal? And am I depressed like people say I am? Clo xoxox

Hi Clo, during puberty a change to our moods can happen quite suddenly and without warning. But you can do things to help this time in your life; chatting to family and friends is very important, exercise too will lift your mood and finally be nice to yourself, read a good book, watch a funny film, have a bubble bath, make plans to do something fun at the weekend.

  • ive had discharge for about 3 years and just recently theres been a bit more... what does this mean?

The amount, colour and texture of discharge can vary from day to day and this is linked to the levels of hormones in your body at any one time and is nothing to worry about.

  • Hi vicki.
Sometimes my nipples are big and stick out like normal but other times it is flat. Is this normal? Do adults and girls constantly experience this or does it stop going flat? Also when its flat the boobs looks pointier and less shapely however when its out it makes the boob look rounder and fuller. Please help vicki sorry if its inappropriate

Nipples are very sensitive to touch and temperature and when cold they can very often become hard and pointy, only to go back to being soft and flat when they warm up. So please don't worry this is true for all women regardless of their age.

  • My bff's have suddenly stopped talking to me and they keep on staring at me and they observe my everymove it's really creepy I don't want to talk to them because I am fine with them not talking to me I just don't know why they are staring at me so much. Like, if they aren't talking to me then why are they so obsessed with what I'm doing? I am not sure if they are jealous of me because whenever they see me im laughing with my new mates

Friendships can change during puberty with new friends being made and some being lost. The trick is to be kind and polite to those you no longer chat to and eventually any bad feeling will stop naturally and hopefully you will still consider these girls even though you are no longer as close as you were before.

  • Hi! I really want to get a bra from Victoria's Secret, but I don't know how to ask my mom! Thanks Maggy

Hi Maggy, there are a great many shops that sell bras and as your breasts will change size several times over the coming years a more sensible  and less expensive bra choice may be ones from M&S, BHS, Primark or New Look.

  • Hi! This boy likes me and I like him too, but I'm shy and don't know how to show that I like him!! Thanks! Maggy

Hi Maggy, for some help with this, check out my blog on Your First Love.

  • Hi vicki,
I have anxiety :( do u know any websites that can help me out?
    from
    rainbowM xxx

Hi RainbowM, rather than scour the internet for websites that claim to help you deal with anxiety, try to remember that puberty can naturally be such a difficult and demanding time for teens as they struggle to come to terms with all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once - it's no wonder they feel stressed and anxious at times.  Try talking to your parents or guardians about how you're feeling and consider ways of boosting your serotonin levels like dancing to your favourite music, watching some funny films and most importantly of all, talking to your friends and family about how you're feeling.

  • Hi vicki,
I have 2 friends at schook but recently i have been kind of not wanting to sit with them. I do still like them but everyone else in my class has more fun than us and im a bit bored. What shall i do??
    please answer ASAP!!!
    from
    rainbowM xxx

Hi RainbowM, talk to your friends and ask them if they too want to become more involved with the other pupils in your class who seem to have more fun.

  • Hey Vicki.
Basically, I'm the girl who fancies J, and the girl who told M who she liked. I still lik J (a guy in my year) but I recemtly found out that my best friend who is a girl M fancies me. I knew she iked girls but I didnt really consider the fact thats he might like me. I did sort of wonder about it and my friend S confirmed it. I'm notb meant to know aboyt M liking me. S doesnt kow I like J. Thankyio xxx

Why not make it clear to the people you like as friends that, that is all you feel for them and if there is someone you like romantically you can then let them know by your actions that you like them that way too.

  • Dear Vicki... Please can u help xx everyday i am constantly worrying about all different things e.g. I worry about having to read out loud in class or going to school and one of my best friends not being there or even walking to class by myself. I dont know if wether this is normal or if there is something wrong with me. I am always worrying about my appearance everything has to look perfect. Please can u help xxx
    Love hollypopxxx

Hi Hollypop, it is so normal to lack confidence during puberty due to all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once.  Why not look at ways of giving your confidence a boost - joining a club for something you enjoy would be a good place to start.  You can also practice reading out loud in front of your family in the comfort of your own home which will help you feel less nervous at school.

  • Hey Vicki
I have had this problem for as long as I remember, if anyone shouts escpiecially teachers I get really scared and nervous even when they aren't shouting at me, my friend said its anxiety but I don't even know what that is? Can you tell me why I get so scared and nervous please because im worried :( .
    Love - c

Puberty can be a difficult and demanding time for teens when they struggle to come to terms with all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once, it's little wonder they lack self-confidence so why not consider ways of giving it a boost by joining a club for something you enjoy.

  • Hiyah Vicki, I hope this is of innapropeate but I was going to ask is there a way to pop your cherry without having sex. Me and my boyfriend are sort of thinking about it but I don't want yl bleed (this would be my first time I'm 16) and I'm just worried is there anither way I coul pop my cherry without having sex first???? Thanks bibblebobble!

The term 'popping your cherry' is used to describe when a female first has sexual intercourse, it is not something you have to do if you do not feel ready, so please try not to worry about this or feel pressured to do it. If you and your boyfriend are not comfortable having sexual relations then it seems sensible to wait and instead spend time being close friends, there really is no rush to be intimate if you do no to wish to be.

  • How do i ask my mum about her first period and what age she got it? Thanks. Xx😊

If you try to relax and remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once, it should be easy to ask your mum about her first period.

  • Hi vicki. I am a size 32B/C bra. 14 years old and have been developing breasts since I was 8 and discharge since I was 9. My mum got hers at 10 and so did my aunty. Everyone else in my class has now started and even though I was the first to develop I still have no period. Every now and then for about 10 seconds I get a sharp pain down there but I don't know if it's cramps or not? It's all my friends seem to talk about and it's embarrassing being the only one. Because I am so far into puberty.

As we don't always follow our mums at being the same age starting our period, try not to worry that you are a little older.  As you've been releasing discharge for quite a while, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • im 13 and ive havent had my first kiss is this weird because all my friends have

A first kiss is a special moment in a person's life and there really is no hurry in doing this just because all of your friends have.  Try to be patient and you will find that one day, you will meet someone special enough to share your first kiss with.

  • Hi i have just started my period but i don't know whether to use towels during school and also whether i should tell my teacher or friends?

Lil-Lets teens Day and Night towels are ideal for first-time use as they have been designed especially for the smaller bodies of young girls.  Try to remember that periods are a perfectly natural occurrence for every girl and your teachers and friends will be well aware of this so try not to worry.

  • Please answer because I'm really worried!
The other day I noticed that my nipple was itchy, I had a sequin top on and I think it made it rub but I'm not sure, today noticed that here are small scabs on it, should I be worried? Sorry if this is innapropriate
    Lilly x

Hi Lilly, try not to worry too much but do keep an eye on it.  Be sure to keep it clean and it should scab over and heal in time.

  • When do you think it is an appropriate time to start using tampons because I think I am ready and I would like to try it but I'm not sure

We recommend that you experience 5 or 6 periods before you try using tampons to allow you some time to get used to your flow.  You might like to consider using Lil-Lets teens Regular tampons as they are ideal for first-time use having been designed especially for the smaller bodies of young girls.

  • I'm12 and for the past year and a halve I have really fancied this boy called A last year in year 7 we were in a lot of the same classes and still are now he always teases me in a friendly way jokes and we are friends but I don't know if I should tell him or not i dont know what to do

For some help with this, check out my blog on Your First Love.

  • hi Vicki
I had white stuff (only a little ) in my pants for 2 days and a month later I had lots of yellow in my pants what does this mean? should I worry?
    thanks
    could u answer asap

It is normal for discharge to appear white or yellow so try not to worry.

  • Hi Vicki
I'm a little worried about a girl in my year (I'm in year 8) because she has already had sexual intercourse. She has been doing sexual things to boys and they've been doing it for her too πŸ˜₯ I think this is really unacceptable. She is only 12 years old, is there a way of talking to her about this?? We used to be friends πŸ’•

    Ayesha πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

I wonder if there is a mentor or trusted teacher at school you can talk to about this.

  • if you have your periods when your age 8 is that a bad thing cause i,am in year 5

It is quite normal for girls to start their period at the age of 8 so try not to worry and be sure to ask your mum for some pads that you can keep with you at school.

  • should I be wearing a bra I am....
    under:63cm
    on bust:98

Your bra size is a 30H but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.

  • what do u do if you self harm
    plz help asap

You really must get some professional help to guide and support you through this problem and that starts by speaking to your parents or teacher letting them know that this is something you do, they will not judge you and I am sure will want to help. You could also visit the website : http://www.youngminds.org.uk/for_children_young_people/whats_worrying_you/self-harm...this has a section for children and young people just like you.

  • I had my first period last month, and today (about 10 days before I would be due again) I had a red/pinky discharge after a day of lots of discharge and cramps. Is this my period again? I'm confused because I knew I'd be irregular, but I didn't think I'd get it again this soon. Thanks! :)

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi Vicki!
I have severe period cramps and nausea during my period BUT only every other month. It gets so severe that I miss school, and have trouble sleeping. Is this normal? Or should I see a doctor?

Ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP for peace of mind.

  • What bra size am I if I have a 77cm bust?

I will also need you to measure directly below your bust too please.

  • Hey vicki
My bra size is a 32c-34a my nipples itch time to time I'm 12 and I'm not sure y somtimes my boobs go a little bigger is that y because my boobs are growing?

The itchiness you are experiencing is because your breasts are developing.  You could try applying a little moisturiser to help hydrate the skin and minimise the effects.

  • Hi Vicky 😁
Firstly your website is fantastic. Secondly i started my period a couple months ago & i've had 3 periods now they're slightly irregular But i have really small breasts just past budding stage but i am only fitting into crop top type thing & i'm 15 I sometimes get a few growing pains and aches on my breasts more around my period not too bad though but is this normal? Will they grow more soon? Does the growing pains/aches go away? If so when?
PLEASE ANSWER ASAP I AM WORRYING SLIGHTLY! Ty 😘

Thank you for your words of support.  As for your breasts, try not to worry as we're all made in different shapes and sizes which is what makes us who we are.  The breast pain you are experiencing is usually a good sign that they are developing and this can continue up until your 20's.

  • I have 2 questions for you ill break it down.
    1) i wear a panty liner and my discharge is yellow/brown on it (is this when it dries out? because its not like that when i don't wear one)
    2) im REALLY flat chested for my age im 17 and have no boobs and it makes me really self-conscious

Discharge can appear yellow when it dries out and it would still be like this when you don't wear pant liners so try not to worry.  As for your breasts, again try not to worry as we are all made in different shapes and sizes which is what makes us who we are and it is possible to notice breast development up until a girl is in her 20's.

  • Hi vicki I hate school I have one proper friend everyone ignores me unless they need a favour. It's got to the point where I'm making excuses up so I either get sent home from school or I don't want to go to school. I started self harming again a couple of weeks ago cause I felt so down. I can't tell my mum/dad as they think I'm one of the most popular girls. Please help me x

Puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time for girls as they struggle to come to terms with all the physical and emotional changes that are occurring all at once, it's no wonder they develop a sense of low self-worth and lack confidence.  Self-harming is an expression of these negative feelings which aren't your fault and it is so important that you talk to your parents or call Mindline on 0300 1233393 to get the professional help you need.

  • I've hd my period for a year and a half but I always can not ring a nice pad with the brand always van u help

Lil-Lets offer a teens range of products that have been designed especially for the smaller bodies of young girls, so why not give them a try.

  • Hi vicki

I've had my period for about 9 months now and a couple of days ago when I wiped there was light brown stuff is this normal its been going on for 4 days now and Im kind of worried please answer

Menstrual fluid can vary in colour; from light brown to dark red and this is still your period and nothing to worry about. You may find my blog entitled 'So what is menstrual fluid' a useful read too.

  • Hi vicki!! What is the average weight in kilograms for a 13 year old? I am currently 40 kilos! Am I under weight

Puberty arrives at different times for each of us and can affect us in different ways. For this reason there is no right or wrong weight for a 13 year old to be. It is far better to take little notice of what the scales say and instead eat 3 healthy meals a day and exercise 3-4 times a week, by doing this your body will find your ideal weight.

  • Dear Vicki,
I have just been allowed to start wearing liners. But I don't know how to get the sanitary bag to the toilet without a teacher or child seeing. Some of my friends have to do it but I don't want to talk to them about it. Plus your meant to tell the teachers about it but I don't want to talk to mine because I don't feel comfortable with it and there is a man teacher in my year as well so I don't want her to tell him! what can I do?
    thx anonymous.

If you are wearing liners for discharge then there really is no need to change if the discharge lost is small. You can simply change when you get home. If the discharge is heavy, then wait until lunchtime and take your bag to the toilet with you and change there.

  • Hey Vicki,
I am not sure if this means anything but today I had pink discharge. I looked it up and it just said stuff about being pregnant, but I am thirteen and haven't "done it" so there's no way I'm pregnant. I've had white discharge for 2 years and its never been any other colour. I don't know if it was blood mixed in or something but it looked like it. Anyway I've never heard of this so I don't know I could be completely wrong but I need to know is it my period? If not, what could it be?

This is most likely your first period and my advice would be to place a liner or pad in your underwear for the next few days to capture any further fluid lost.

  • Hey Vicky
My under bust is 71cm and my bust is 81cm, what's my bra size?

32AA is your sized based on these measurements.

  • My name is Felisity and I am 12 and would be so so so so happy if I could get a free sample of every thing you guys have I was on youtube one day and I was watching a video and the girl got ALOT of free samples from you guys so I was wondering if I could get a free sample from you guys this is my address 539 WHITE OAK ST. • Jojo
What.am i.supposed to eat for my excema??

This really is a question for your doctor, who will I am sure offer you a diet sheet, together with some creams and bath lotions to keep your breakouts to a minimum.

  • I am 11, I have been getting the white discharge for like 5+ mmonths and been getting cramps for 4! My cramps have been hurting so bad! But I am not growing hair on my armpits. My friends say I am getting emotional and I have been getting head aches a lot. I have been getting all the signs of periods but no periods! Is it cuz I'm skinny? Pkz answer this question. Plz help me

Hi, discharge can be noticed for up to a year before the arrival of your period so please try to be patient and ensure you drink and eat regularly to avoid headaches.

  • (same girl who's period has or has not finished) also this is i think my 4/5th period and none of them usually last this long... :(

As I have said in my previous response, periods can be irregular and this can also mean differences in the length of time you menstruate and the amount of blood lost.

  • 12 years old and i got my period 1 week before my birthday. i had my period last week, and it stopped (at least I think it did). but it's day 7 now, and it's still there? It's not the same colour as before though its kind of a light bright red on my tissue paper when i wipe after using the toilet. I've cleaned myself down there while having a shower after my period. so why is this happening?:(

Periods can be irregular for the first few years with both long and short gaps between each one, this is simply your body working out the right menstrual cycle just for you and nothing to be worried or anxious about.

  • Look I am 14 I have had discharge from I was about 12 and have stomach cramps as we'll but I haven't had my period and do t say that you can have it fro. 10-18 or what ever it is because I have never heard of someone take it of 15,16, 17 or 18 I want to now y I haven't got it please send back asap

I can assure you I know of a great many girls how do not start menstruating until their late teens and as you have already been experiencing discharge I doubt you will have much longer to wait.

  • Hi Vicky,

i had my first period yesterday and i don't know how to tell my mum. I have a few liners and pads from a lil lets starter kit given by my school a while ago but i need to tell my mum and don't know how?! I wan't to tell her in person but can't bring myself to do it, please help!

    Thanks,
    Louise xx

Hi Louise, why not give your mum the money off voucher that was in your starter pack as a way of opening the conversation, letting her know your period has arrived and you need some supplies and that you have a money off voucher for our fabulous products. I appreciate it is a little embarrassing to say these words, but I am sure your mum will be more than happy to hear your news and get you some supplies.

  • hey vicki im 4ft 7 in y8 and i feel very short and i hate being my height.I HATE eating eat like i eat bits of chicken but im not vegetarian .i eat the same portions my 5ft 3 friends eat but i dont get taller or wider however i do have small breasts and my feet went from a size 1-2 to a 3 in the summer so i have groown a bit but not vertically :(

Our bodies continue to grow into our late teens or early twenties so you see you have plenty of time to become taller and I really do not think you have anything to be concerned about.

  • Hi so over the past few months I have been getting really bad discharge, I am 16 and still haven't started my period I don't think it will be long until I do but I am not sure. Please help me !!- Anya

Hi Anya, the amount, colour and texture of discharge can vary from day to day and noticing an increase in the amount produced is not always a sign that your period is due any day soon. My advice is to keep some pads or liners with you when out and about so you are always prepared for the arrival of your period.

  • Hi Vicki!
What does a cramp feel like?
Is there a tablet for your cramps?

btw I haven't gotten my period yet!

    Xoxo C.W

Cramps can feel like a dull ache in your lower tummy or back and groin area. You can take a tablet if the pain is very bad, under adult supervision. But it would be far better to ease this discomfort naturally, by taking exercise, a warm bath or hot water bottle.

  • Hi vicki, I need to know how do u check urself for breast cancer? I know there is a lump in ur boob but can u just see the lump sticking out or can u feel a lump on the inside when u touch it. I really need an answer ASAP please if u can -Thank you

Breast cancer is extremely rare in girls and the lump you may be feeling is most likely your breast bud, which can feel quite hard and sits behind the nipple area. It is also very common for this area to feel tender or sore during development.

  • Hi Vicki, this is going to sound really silly but oh well, so my breast buds are growing, so like do they grow out til the hit the sides of your breasts and this start growing upward? Because I started getting breast buds when I was 8, and im going to be 13 on Friday and still have no boobs. Also I have pubic hair anf stuff and I have been having discharge for over a year now, is my period close or is there no way of telling? Thanks in advance, L xx

Breasts can continue to develop and grow into a girls late teens and early twenties, with periods of no growth often noticed for several months, so please be patient you have plenty of time for your breast buds to become fuller.

  • Pleasee help!! I'm very scared! I'm almost 14 and I had my first period 3 months ago (it was VERY heavy) but I haven't had it since then! I still have discharge but it's quite little.. Helpppp pleasee! Thank you soo much xx

Periods are often irregular for the first few years with long gaps noticed in between each one, this is simply your body working out the right monthly cycle for you and is nothing to worry about.

  • Dear Vicki,

I only change my pad when i wake up, when i come back from school and before bed is that bad?

    ~Phoebe x

Hi Phoebe, if you feel this appropriate for you then I see nothing wrong with at all.

  • Dear Vicki,

My best friend self harms herself and i don't know what to do? Should i tell someone? Please Help!!

    ~Phoebe x

Hi Phoebe, yes you should speak to an adult about this matter and also urge your friend to chat to someone too.

  • Dear Vicki,

My friend wants to be anorexic!! she says that she's too fat to live and that being anorexic would make her life better. From about a week ago she started losing weight derrasticly and its really stressing me out, which is making my grades go down because I'm to worried about her! She's all i care about now and i don't know what to say to her to make her stop!! HELP!!

    ~Phoebe x

It's great that you want to support your friend, but this is  a matter for adults to resolve especially as it is affecting your life now too. So have a chat to your teacher or parents and ask them to step in and help your friend understand that eating a healthy diet is supremely important for her health and well being.

  • Hi Vicki,
Are my boobs too small to wear a bra?
I am 69 under bust and 74 on the bust?
Also, how do i ask my mum if i can wear the crop tops she gave me, im not at all close to her or anyone else i know really
    Please reply, thanks
    - Polly

Your bra size is 32AA but as this is only a guide, when you go shopping be sure to try on some different styles and sizes of bra until you find one that feels comfortable on you.  Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed talking to her about wanting to wear a crop top.

  • Hello Vicki, what is the difference between towels and liners, because I do not know which ones to get. Thanks, Samantha

Hi Samantha, you can find out all about our products by clicking on the products page or our website. In brief, liners are thin pads that are great for catching discharge and protecting your underwear, some people also use them at the end of their period when their flow is very light or every day as a precaution if they do not know when their period will arrive. Pads are thicker and are suitable for when you are on your periods and your flow is medium to heavy.

  • The other day I had a wee and it was was red,I haven't started my peiod yet but I don't know if this is it? I've had period pains and I've been having discharge for about a year now! I don't know if I've started or not but I've had no other blood since.

This could have been your period, alternatively it could have been from something you ate or if you have a bladder infection. My advice is to have a chat to your mum and monitor if any further blood is lost and then take it from there.

  • Hi Viki,

I'm super scared at the moment I'm 12 years old and i will be 13 next April and I think I might have started my period but I'm not too sure I found some blood today and i was panicking really bad, I haven't had any cramps but I have had headaches (I had one yesterday) could this be a sign?

    From

    Sammie

Hi Sammie, not everyone experiences pain either before or during their period and headaches are uncommon too. So why not have a chat to your mum and share this news with her, she will I am sure alleviate any fears you may have.

  • I lost my two best friends... I had a massive row with both of them and now we're all really mad at each other... What can I do to help the situation?

    Annemarie

Hi Annemarie, give it a few days and then drop them a text letting them know how much you miss them and hope you can move on from this quarrel, I am sure they are feeling the same too.

  • Hi Vicki my bra size is 30dd in the uk and I'm nearly 14. Even though my boobs are quite a good size everyone seems to think my breasts are small and people often make comments towards me even though my best friends boobs are 30a and much smaller. Even my crush last week said I have small boobs which made me feel upset. Do you have any ideas why my breasts look so small.
    Thank you

I advise people to not pay too much attention to a) what the label/size says on your bra and b) what other people say. Breast size is not a competition and in this world we are all different. So my advice is to ignore any silly comments and the most important thing for you to consider is whether your bra is comfortable to wear and if it is then try not to react to anything else.

  • Hi Viki ,
I have just got my first boyfriend and we have only been going out for a few days and the thing is we never hold hands or hug or anything and I am an incredibly shy person and I was wondering whetheri should ask him if he wants to hold hands and or cuddle but I'm scared he will breakup with me or push me away what should i do?
    Thanks Abbie

Hi Abbie, try to relax as there is nothing wrong in wanting to hold hands or to cuddle your boyfriend.  Try to remember to simply be yourself and you will be fine.

  • Hi Vicky,
I got my period !!! I'm so pleased but it started on the 7th and I think it will end on 10th because it's the 9th today and I have still got it ... Anyway will I get it next month ?? Because for some people it will happen again 6 mouths later
    Hope you reply from
    Jade

Hi Jade, you will simply have to wait and see when your next period arrives as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control he changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Bore da Vicki!😏
So recently I have been having dizzy episodes and I think at one point I fainted, I haven't say anything to my dad. Also I just got my period, and get bad back ache and cramps, this doesn't have anything to do with it does it cause sometimes I have them on my period but sometimes not, like now😩 is it anything to worry about? What shall I do?πŸ˜•

    Diolch - OllieπŸπŸ˜‰
    Yeah, I speak WelshπŸ˜πŸ’•

For more help with PMS - Is it all in your head? Please check out my blog link.  Please try not to feel embarrassed talking to your dad as I'm sure he will try his best to support you.  For peace of mind, you might like to ask if he will book an appointment with your GP.

  • Hi Vicki. My discharge is really heavy and it feels like I've wet myself. I haven't started my periods and I don't know what to do. I use liners but they don't do much.

    Thanks

The best way of keeping your discharge under control is to make regular changes of your pant liners and you might like to consider using Lil-Lets teens Freshen-Up wipes as they will also help you to feel fresh and clean down there.

  • Hi Vicki,
I'm 12 almost 13 and the other day i think i started my period, but it's only happened twice in four days. I was wondering if this is normal or not?
    Thankyou xxx

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • I'm really embarrassed because one of my breasts are bigger than the other and it really shows. Have you got any tips for making them look equal?

Try not to worry as noticing more development in one breast than the other is very common.  Just try to be patient and allow some time for them to even up in size.  In the meantime, a bra with slight padding will help you feel less self-conscious.

  • hi,what do you think is the appropriate age to wear makeup?i just wanna know your opinion cos i am a makeup freak but wear slightest amount of makeup.
    Hannah, age 10
P.s is it true that foundation is bad for your skin?

Hi Hannah, please talk to your parents or guardians about this.

  • Hi Vicki,
I think I have discharge but my breasts have not devolved yet. So my mom won't get me Pantyliners but I dint straight out ask get I ask her on a note. Is it normal to have discharge before breast growth.
    Thanks for reading
    Please reply A.S.A.P
    Thanks

It is perfectly normal to notice discharge before breast development so try not to worry.

  • please help!! I haven't started my period but I want to try a tampon. is it okay to do that? pleaseee answer

The only time you should try using a tampon is when you are menstruating as inserting a tampon dry can cause tiny tears to appear on the walls of the vagina which may lead to infection.

  • Hi Vicki,
I had this best friend for about 2 yrs but I didn't like her and we keep arguing now I'm not friends with her but her and her friends are being really mean to me. They say stuff like ' you treat people like dirt' , 'what's the point of you being her, no one likes you' and 'I had a dream about you last night, you got raped' it's really getting to me because they talk to my friends and I get really scared that they are going to take my friends away.

    Thanks for answering xxx

This is bullying so please talk to a teacher and your parents as a matter of urgency.

  • Hi Vicki,
I think I have anxiety and get panic attacks and things.i think My mum because she has started to bring this up in front of me. For example she would say 'She get worried a lot' I want to ask her to take me to the doctors to get dianosged but I don't know how to tell her. Also I hate doing PE because I feel everyone stares at me for being so thin and having hairy leg( I shave though but I feel like they look) and We do PE with boys as well. I want to get help but I don't know how.

Try not to worry as you're not alone in feeling like this.  Puberty can be such a difficult and demanding time in a young person's life, it's no wonder they develop a poor self-image and become susceptible to stress.  Please talk to your mum and friends about how you're feeling as doing this should help.  If you think a trip to your GP will provide you with peace of mind, ask your mum to book an appointment.

  • Hi Vicki

I just got back from school and my friend came over and when I got changed she mentioned my above area for how big they are what should I do
    Thank you Emily x

Hi Emily, it is normal for your friend to notice that your breasts have developed.  This is a time when all young girls and boys undergo massive changes both physically and emotionally so expecting some interest in each others development is to be expected.

  • hello, I started my period about two months ago (11th September) and it was really heavy and a brownish/blackish colour. But I didn't get it last month and now this month I'm getting a really light brown colour discharge, is everything okay?

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi Vicki I got measured in September for school and the lady in m and s gave me like a thin kind of not very supportive starter bra and then she said come back every 3 months and I think she might give me a proper bra like from the Angels range my mum hasn't remembered do I need to go or do I measure myself and see if I need to losen my bra thanx Dora xxx

Hi Dora, just mention this to your mum.

  • Hi Vicki,
I have had discharge for 2 years pubic hair, I have breasts (even tho they r small!) im 5,7" and 14 (15 in 3 months) my mum started her period at the age of 13. I worried that I'll never start or that's theres something wrong with me? My mum has under active thyroid, say I had that would this be the cause? Also how much do you bleed when your on your period (for a regular flow)
    πŸ’•πŸ’œπŸ’žπŸŽˆ

A normal period see menstrual blood loss of between 20-60 ml or 4-12 teaspoonfuls.

  • My period is due on my birthday. I was wondering if it would spoil my birthday a bit. Do you think it will? Thanks from Buffy

Hi Buffy, try to remember that periods are a perfectly natural occurrence for every girl and they should never interfere with any of the things you enjoy doing in life so try not to worry.  Have a wonderful birthday.

  • Is it normal for (about once a day) your vagina to have a unbearable pain that sort of feels like it is clamping. I haven't started my period yet but have discharge.

As your cramps are quite severe, ask your mum or guardian to book an appointment with your GP for peace of mind.

  • I have a very close relationship with my mom, but recently I've been a bit snappier. Is it lack of sleep or a mood swing? Thx!!!

It is normal to notice mood swings during puberty as hormones are running riot.  As you're very close to your mum, I'm sure she will already realise that your moods are due to puberty.

  • Hi there
Um im 12 and i feel like slightly upset! I feel that i really need you know a boyfriend and i feel when i go to bed and wake up in the morning my vagina is quite moist(hope this isnt inappropriate) II was woundering shoudl i frel so upet that i have never had a blyfriend and kissed a boy! And also why does my vagina becomes moist?
    Please reply asap! Xxxx

Hi, you may be interested to learn that a great many people now prefer to date in their late teens or early twenties so you have plenty of time to find that someone special. Finally, your body is pretty good at keeping your vagina clean and healthy and will make different fluids to help keep this part of your body working properly.

  • Hi Vicki its me again and I DONT want my period !! This may be crazy but, what kind of exersises harm it or make it not come?? Love calicatzz.
PS. I'm 11 all the signs of it

Hi Calicatzz, there is nothing you can do to prevent your period from arriving. But you can learn to live with it and I am sure in no time at all you will realise that having a period does not have to prevent you from carrying on with your day as you would normally. You may find reading our section on Periods useful along with my blogs.

  • Hi

  • hi
ive recently had a lot of discharge and i was wondering if this a sign my period is near? ive been having discharge for about 4 years now.
    thanks

As you've been releasing discharge for quite a while, I can only guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • how do I make my period come quicker?

I'm afraid there is nothing you can do to make your period arrive any quicker so please try to be patient as the best way of knowing when this might happen is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • Hiya Vicki,
So the other day I went to the toilet and saw these light brown streaks in my panties. What is it? Thankyou, Stacey

Hi Stacey, brown discharge can often present itself as a first period so be sure to ask your mum or guardian for some pads and see what happens over the coming weeks and months.

  • can you interview Rihanna
please????? and how can I be in one of your videos?????

Thank you for your suggestion.  I will pass it on to the team.  I'm afraid there aren't any imminent plans for more videos.

  • Hi Vicki! I have got another question about hickeys... Is it normal for a girl to give another girl a hickey because everybody's doing it like it's no big deal and i got quite a few hickeys by girls and also gave them and i'm totally straight i'm not a lesbian but is it weird, girls giving girls hickeys? Please answer!

It can be a little bit of a trend when people start giving others hickeys. It is not a serious matter but I am sure you would rather be blemish free, so try to avoid them if you can.

  • Ooooh! Im SO exited what will turn up on this in 2015! Heheheee! But...oh PLEASE do a chat page, not like a 'proper one', like just a on like one person posts about her propblem and you could maiby post it to a page and we other girls could maiby respond to that a like if you have the same problem or a solution...and you could post our answers to that page...like the blog comment page! That way it could save your time! And oh Vicki, will the new stuff come on exactly January 1st? Thanks Vicki xxx

Hi and I am glad you are excited about our 2015 campaign. It will not be ready for January I am afraid but we will start the process of selection then and set out times for the filming.

  • I feel so sick with my period, this is the 1st day it has felt like this and I have been on for 5 days! I can't stop crying, I feel so unwell. (I tried to talk to my mum but she is in a bad mood with me and wouldn't listen.)

Why not try going for a little walk if you are allowed outside. If not have a dance in your room and then run a warm bath or ask for a hot water bottle to ease any discomfort.

  • I'm too embarrassed to wear a swimsuit because I have small breasts 32AA. I'm 13, help !

Try to remember that we are all made in different shapes and sizes and our bodies develop at different rates to each other.  You might like to consider buying a swimsuit that has a small padding in the bust area to boost your self-confidence.

  • Hello Vicky,

I'm 16 and I've never had a boyfriend. I'm starting to be concerned because almost all my friends have had at least a relationship but I haven't and it doesn't seem like I will anytime soon. Is this okay or am I doomed to be single for life? Is it okay to hace your first boyfriend and kiss in university and not secondary school? Or is it really late?

    Thanks

Hi and you will be pleased to learn that a great many people now wait until their late teens or early twenties before dating so you really have nothing to worry about. When the right person comes along you will know and it will be magical.

  • Hi, do doctors prescribe the pill for free? also, i know this sounds really bad (im nearly 17) and my boyfriend placed a finger inside me, we both wanted to.. it hurt a little bit at the time but the next day i bled a tiny bit.. is this normal?
    Thanks vicki x

Some family planning clinics offer free contraception, but generally contraceptive pills are prescribed on a presciption at your doctors and require a fee to be paid.  Try not to worry about this little bit of blood loss it is fairly normal.

  • Hi vicki
So I've been releasing discharge for 8 months 4 weeks ago there was a few drops of blood in my knickers Today I have been really upset and short tempered Do you think that I will have a period soon?

Periods can often be irregular for the first few years and mood swings are not only linked to your periods, then can come and go at any time during your teenage years as you change from a child to an adult.

  • Hey Vicki so last weekend I had an overdose and got put in to hospital because everyone is bullying me and tells me to kill myself in really messed up because I drink alot of vodka and I smoke too much what can I do I just want to die in 14 and I'm sick of it 😭

I am sorry to hear that you have felt so sad and I am sure now you are in hospital you will be receiving excellent medical care and advise for your problems. My advice is to take on board everyone's comments and never be afraid to ask for help.

  • Hi Vicki I asked a question and you still haven't answered it! So here it is:
    What is my bra size:
    Under-24 Bust-27
Am I ready for a cupped bra because I feel ready and all my friends wear one.
    Thanks VickiπŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

28AA is your size if your measurements are correct and there really is no need for a padded bra this stage of development.

  • why is it that I never know the answer when a teacher or someone picks me? It's annoying and it looks as if I'm not paying attention to them when I am. And people think I'm really scatterbrained and not the brightest :( I try not to care because why should I? But do you know what I am saying?

Yes I do know how you feel, it may be that you are a little uncomfortable with the attention, but if you really are struggling to retain information set out by your teachers then have a little chat to them after class and they may be able to offer you some tips on how to remember more clearly what is being taught.

  • My school does not offer many subject choices and only creative ones are art and music. What can I do?

You could always consider attending after school clubs or evening classes if there is a specific art/creative subject you wish to study.

  • Hi vicki, i am 13 yrs old and my breasts are smaller. All.my friends have big breasts and they tease me about it. I think i need a bra but i am not sure to tell my mom. Shall i ask her?

Why not ask your mum how old she was when she got her first bra, this should move the convesation nicely over to you and if you now feel ready. Finally, why not have a quiet word with your friends, letting them know how important it is to support each other during puberty and how hurtful their comments are. I am sure they will stop once they see how it upsets you.

  • I am going to be 13 in April, I have hair down there, armpit hair, I have a 34b bra and I have got spots. When do you think ill get my period.

    Thx Amelia

Hi Amelia, with so many signs of puberty already noticed I doubt you will have much longer to wait.

  • I have really small boobs but I wear a padded bra because it feels comfier is this okay? Im 12 nearly 13
Also is it wierd that my friend doesnt even wear a crop top when shes in year 8 and acts imature about it?

It really is a personal choice as to whether you wear a bra or crop top, so please don't judge your friend too harshly if she is not yet ready for this kind or garment. Finally, if you feel comfortable wearing a padded bra then I see no reason why you should not continue.

  • Hi Vicki this is reallly important
I'm really shy and I think I have started my period even just to say that wordmakes me shy. I have massive cramps ad blood on the tissue after I pee butt non in my pants or when I pee. I tryed emailing my mom but she doesn't go in it. I have swimming tomorrow att school aswell please help me xx
    From Izzy

Hi Izzy, periods are a very normal part of becoming a young woman and it is important that you share any concerns with your mum: I appreciate that this may feel a little embarrassing at first, but remember she was a teenager once too and will understand how you are feeling.

  • Sorry to waist your time but Im just curious...! How do you answer questions? Like on your laptop is there a thing you click and then theres a list of our questions there...or do you have to go to a website? And which questions do you like to answer the most? ....
    thunkssthanksthonkss

I have a laptop that goes everywhere with me so I can respond to questions wherever I am. The questions are sent to a computer program and I can then access this folder view all your questions and respond. They are always responded to in date order too.

  • Hi Vicki! Im 12 and Ive been very hungry lately. I dont know why? I wanna eat junk food and I eat alot! But Im like never full. Im not fat but Im scared that I will...I do run alot and do exercise thoughhh... I know its unhealthy but....I wanna cry! I saw a similar question to this but she was 14 and Im 12.
    thankkksss

Feeling hungry during puberty is very normal and it would be wise to increase the amount of protein and carbohydrates in your meals to help you feel fuller for longer.

  • Why is it supposedly unlucky to sing Christmas songs before Christmas? I don't believe there's anything wrong with it. I think Christmas songs can be sung all year round!

Autumn (yes, this is my name)

Hi Autumn, I agree and I have to admit that there are Christmas CD's in my car being played already.

  • I started my period 5months ago and it's not come back again for 5monts but last night I went to the toilet and there was tiny spots of blood, so I used a pad. This morning I woke up and there's nothing on it and I went to the toilet and now there's no blood on the tissue? Will it start today?

Try not to worry as in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, it can take a while for your hormones to control the changes in your body and to then reach a balance for your regular period.

  • Hi Vicki I have two questions 1. Could you possibly interview tanya burr of YouTube 2. I have recently been getting quite bumpy oily red skin around my nose and my skin goes slightly paler I do have a skincare routine I take all my makeup off I don't eat unhealthy I am not sure what to do to get nucer skin. I did have a underskin spot there but it went and it has just left a red scar how do I get rid of that??? Thanx candy1842 xxxxxx

Hi and yes I will add Tanya to the list. Try not to worry too much about the blemishes, they can often take a few weeks to disappear.

  • What is a pad? Is it the same as a towel or something else?? Thank you! :)

A pad is the same as a sanitary towel.

  • Hi Vicki! So i have been getting a discharge for looong time.... At least what i think it is a discharge. I mean it's like around my clitoris not my vagina and i don't think that's a discharge.... Help?

Discharge is a clear mucus that is produced by glands found at the entrance to the womb together with normal secretions found on the walls of the vagina.  It works to keep our vaginas clean and free of infection and tells us that our bodies are gettting ready for when our period arrives.

  • Hi Vicki! I`m Lia, i just turned 11 i have all the signs of my period. I don't wear a bra but they aren't noticeable in clothing, sometimes they hurt when I am jumping and stuff. Should I consider a bra ? I don't know how to tell my mom. Ughhh! I hate growing up!

The choice is yours and you might like to start with a training bra or crop top as they will help you to get used to wearing a more structured bra in the future.  Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so there really is no need for you to feel embarrassed.  The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • (Part 2)so I asked my mental sister (She is really mental, I am not joking at all) who hates me, and all she did was yell at me, and told me if I wanted food I would have to come with.I only Asked for them to buy strawberry and Milo. So now I will not get anything. I just cant understand why he won't buy for me if I'm not There, even though I have come with every Sunday before this.please help me

You really have to respect your dad's wishes as I'm sure he probably appreciates your company and help whilst shopping.  Please talk to him bout this.

  • (Part 1)All my friends moms go shopping every month for groceries.I live with my dad which means I have to go with him to buy groceries, and if I don't I don't get food for school. I didn't want to go with him today so I asked if he would get strawberries and Milo for me. He told me he would not remember (in a rude and uncaring way).

    Response in Part 2.

  • Hey Viki I had a TERRIBLE NIGHTMARE like the worst ever and there's no one in the house I can go to except my nan she's 80

Nightmares can be awful and I would suggest that you ask if you can leave a night light on in future and perhaps leave your bedroom door open.  Talk to your nan about your bad dream as this will help.

  • Hi Vicki x I find your website very useful by the way. I've got some questions to ask you. I have been get discharge for about 6 months now my breast are starting to develop and I am too scared to tell my mum or dad. I need panty liners but how am I supposed to tell them and what does this mean. I also amb getting alot of bellyaches. Thankyou for your time Angel xx

Hi Angel, thank you so much for the support.  Try to remember that your mum was a young girl going through puberty once so try not to feel embarrassed talking to her about needing pant liners.  As you've already been releasing discharge for 6 months, I would guess that your period isn't too far away.

  • Hey vicki xx great website i just couldnt find this answer so i know you have to be 16 to have intercouse but do you have to be 16 if you want to do other things sexually (no references sorry if its rude x) thanks

The Law of Consent states that it is illegal for a boy or man to have any kind of sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16.

  • Hi I have ? I am 12 and I don't have no signs of periods how I know that I will have my period .I have like bugere discharge is that a sign?thank you
    Rosea

Hi Rosea, the best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.

  • What are sights before period ?

The best way of knowing when your period might arrive is when you've been releasing discharge for between 6-12 months.
